    This overview series is a great way to get acquainted with China's basic history. It really helps to learn from someone who actually speaks chinese and is really familiar with the culture.

    You always know when a podcast is worth listening to. No down votes and a few k views. Too many views and the content is bound to drop. Great work.

      I thank you again for such encouraging words....This one is an early episode from way back in 2010 or 2011....I apologize for the less than optimal sound quality....I've improved on that a little. Thanks Bunny Jin!

    Have you ever heard of the emissary that China sent to Rome around 95AD he would've arrived in Rome around 97AD during the first year of Trajan's rule. He never made it past the Persian Gulf region due to miscommunication. However I am aware the Romans sent and emissary mission to China during Antoninus Pius's reign as emperor sometime in the 150's AD and this emissary was successful at reaching China and retuning to Rome. I wonder if you know anything about that story I would like to know more about it 😄

      I always recommend John Keay's "China: A History". Great place to start.

    One more question for you. Do you think Cao Cao was a loyal defender of the realm or a conniving usurper?

    Since you mentioned it in your podcast can you make a podcast of Chu-Han Contention?

    • @laszlomontgomery4900

      I've had that on my list of stand-alone topics for the longest time....My big great idea was to do a series that offers a deep dive into many of the greatest battles of ancient and modern times. For most of these wars I mention, rarely do I go into too much detail....But for events such as the Chu-Han Contention and Gaixia, a lot of material exists and I wanted to draw on that to do this series. So, be looking for that one of these days. You're one of many who have asked me to do this. Thanks!

      @@laszlomontgomery4900 When you do these podcast do you do it based on what people request or based on what you own ideas?

      @@jasonqiu84 Once in a while I get a listener suggestion that looks perfect for this format and I'll cover that. A lot of these topics I've covered were requested by listeners but most of the time I just prioritize them as they're already of my list.

      @@ChinaHistoryPodcast I've learned more about Chinese history than I have anywhere in my life even though I already knew quite a bit of it. Your pronunciation is on point or as they say in Mandarin 标准

    Correction at 5:55: Confucius died 250 years before the Qin dynasty!

      Stupid mistake! I'll fix it this weekend. Terribly sorry about that JMFT. Only took 7 years before someone mentioned it to me. Much obliged.

    I'm a new fan, I was driven to you by your history of Xinjiang, best one I've found. The CCP is the best thing that ever happened to Xinjiang. I see Xi, doing the Han thing, enforcing unity as the only way to run this zoo. I rate Xi high on the Confucian scale. Xi has dragged China into the flush toilet and clean water era. If Xi does nothing else, that will do.

    • @randacnam7321
      @randacnam7321 3 роки тому

      Nope. The CCP combines the worst of the Qin and Qing. Then add in a healthy dose of megalomania leading to gigantic shoddily built projects and environmental devastation. Not to forget the Chinese national sport: messenger shooting.
      Thus it has always been: long divided, must unite; long united, must divide.
