      Ships are more resilient than u think. You can blow a hole on the side of a ship and it'll still be able to float back to port for repairs. The fastest way to sink a ship is with a torpedo because it detonates not by hitting the ship, but right beneath it causing the ship to slightly go airborne and fall back on itself. With the massive weight of the ship crashing down it breaks the ships keel and everyone is sol lmao.

    • @marioalmeida2667

      Torpedoes are really the only weapons meant to sink a ship quickly because it breaks its keel. Missiles are meant to damage internal workings and kill crewman

      Sad to see it sink after all the work we did to keep it afloat. I actually had a piece of the ships hull. It was the hole they cut out below the waterline to make a repair from causeway bump in San Diego harbor. I lost the piece. it was in my house when Katrina hit, tore the top off my house (2 story) and lost everything. Got out in 78, The Racine was my first and last ship. 2nd Division.

    • @chrisperry7538
      @chrisperry7538 5 років тому +5

      AzogNewOrleans we cut a causeway cable on Silver Strand Coronado. It did not damage the hull though. The vertical prop turbulence did hole the ship in 3 Aux. We shored her up, steamed back to port and put in a new piece of Hull.

    That's an old LST with the bow ramp. When I was a captain in the Marine Corps deployed aboard amphibious ships in 1975, I was CO of Troops aboard the USS Tuscaloosa (LST) during the assault on Koh Tang Island in May 1975. While we were not committed to the assault, we were off shore and were ready (weapons and ammunition had been issued to all Marines) to conduct an amphibious assault if so ordered. I had my company of Marines, tanks, amphibious tractors, artillery, 81 mm mortars, and other heavy weapons that the helicopter assault force didn't have.
    I was also aboard the USS Denver (LSD) during the evacuation of Saigon in April 1975. There were so many ships involved that it looked like the D-Day landings in Normandy. An experience I'll never forget.
    I was also a platoon commander in Vietnam 1968-1969. Hard to believe that was over 50 years ago.
    Anyway, I'm sorry to see the old girl go down, but at least she went down training warriors for future combat. Not a bad way to go.

      If you want to see what it's like to miss a stationary sea target. Put a Tupperware container in a pool then stand back about 20-30 feet and try and shoot it one handed with a BB Rifle.
      -Have someone shake the pool slightly. (This imitates waves the other vessle is bobbing on)
      -Aiming with one hand shoot your BB rifle from 20-30 feet away. (This simulates the slight, mostly accountable, bobbing of your own ship and the distance of a few miles.)
      You'll probably miss a few times before you land a hit. Or maybe you're really good at aiming one handed. Hopes this helps a bit.

    Even though naval ships go out to sea. Watching how close you bring your ship into other territory is valid information. As this video sets its example

      As another concept of crossing enemy lines comes into action why spend so much time and money on naval battleships while other targeting countries send missiles such a distance...

    Amazing but as beautiful of a sight it is to see a ship come into or leave a port, it is as sad to see one sink. I hope she was a good ship for those onboard.

    That's no way to send a ship to its final place..disrespectful to the service it rendered for the nation..once a home for 100s of Sailors.. Sad to see it go that way..
