First of all, glad that you’re back :) Taylor swift, Zach Bryan, Morgan Wallen, and Kameron Marlowe are my favs rn. But I’m also really excited for hardy’s album coming out next week
Derrik, I just wanted to thank you for creating your channel and trying to be so authentic and transparent. I didn’t realize that your first big video was Cornelia Street… ironically, that video was the very first tutorial I ever saw, and was the first song I learned to play, at age 46! And since then, I’ve watched every Taylor video you’ve posted… you’re a major source of my 1 year guitar journey, and I’m really grateful. I think you have a special gift for appreciating music, sharing good information, and also sharing parts of yourself too (the song you wrote to propose to your wife was so incredibly sweet, and your dog is a doll… even sharing the sad parts of life too is a special thing ❤️). I just wanted to encourage you that your channel is a happy, safe corner of the internet, and I do hope you feel at peace about it as you move forward. I’m completely biased towards anything Taylor, lol… but you always seem genuinely in awe of her talents… it’s so fun to see your latest Taylor reactions and tutorials! Thanks for giving us more to learn… and just enjoy together. 🥰🎸🤗🎉
Dude I missed your videos, always wondered what happened to your uploads I really enjoyed the videos you made and the little lessons you did. Glad you’re well. Can’t wait for new videos
New to your channel, grew up on rock and metal. Picked up a Taylor acoustic the other day and already learned a few of my favorite country songs from you. Great teacher, Great story, Great dude! Keep doing what you do! I'll be watching (and learning hopefully)!
Derrick this channel you created is off the wall buddy. I’ve learned so much from you and I like you went thru the off and on spell and decided to put 100% into at 60! Yeah that’s right. Just watching you has inspired me to get back to work. Don’t change a thing buddy, keep up the great work.
I LOVE your Taylor Swift content and will take as much of it as you have to offer!!! :) Also, I was so excited to hear that you will be posting some videos on songwriting tips/techniques!! So glad to have you back, Derrik!! Thank you for sharing your story!! You are such an inspiration! God bless :)
Hey Derrick, welcome back! I’m glad you’re not leaving. Just a random thought, but with this channel and the following you’re growing it could eventually be leveraged for you to connect with “mainstream” artists and we could find you performing on stage here and there as their special guest if your health permits eventually and if that’s maybe a part of your desire in the long run. That’d be cool to see! Anyways heres a song that’s huge but not too mainstream, Aruarian Dance by Nujabes - has this beautiful guitar melody with a history that extends 100 years from Maurice Ravel, Mildred Bailey, Laurindo Almeida, then Nujabes. These people are gone but that sound is just so timeless. It’s not country but maybe it’s something you could see yourself reacting to / teaching to us.
Graduated college in 2016 and picked up the guitar at the age of 24. I can relate a lot with that weird place of being on the fence about tryin to really chase that dream or not. Lookin forward to what you got comin. -From Chatt. TN
Watching your videos taught me most of the songs I know and helped me improve over the 2 year that I’ve been playing. I’m super thankful for your channel and glad your back
Thank you for opening up. I’m so sorry you went through all that. I’ve been following you for way before that Cornelia St video and I’ve seen how passionate you are. I’ve missed you and I will definitely be there supporting you on Patreon. You are an amazing guy, and I’ll be picking up my guitar and learn with you too.
Super pumped to have you back. I have watched a lot of your videos and you're super easy to learn from. The way you explain things and the genuineness (is that even a word?) you show when teaching or reacting to songs is something that sticks with me. Love learning from you and hope to keep learning from you. Welcome back! Cheers to 2023!
Welcome back! I missed you💕 I’m 75 and started learning during the first Covid lockdown using Justin Guitar. I just want to be a good Rhythm Guitarist that can play the sing-along songs around ‘the camp fire’. I enjoy Country (like Zach Bryan - Orange - at the moment). I live in NZ. Enjoy your honest presentation and tips. You got this💕 Cheers Rob
You posting this as I’m walking out of the doctors office. Hearing I can’t play guitar for awhile. (also my left wrist). Keep going man, you’ve really helped my playing.
Derrik, it’s so great to hear from you again! You are so genuine and I love learning guitar from you. How about “A Rock” - Hardy (performed by Morgan Wallen)? One of my favorite songs right now. Hope you like it too
So glad to see you back! I’m always so happy to see you’ve posted a new video. In one of your videos you mentioned you wanted to make a video on “How to Write a Song Like Taylor Swift”, I think that’s a brilliant idea and I would love to see it! I’ve noticed in your reaction videos of her albums you do a great job picking up on the patterns she uses in her songwriting.
i love your content over here and words can't describe how much i missed hour videos over here....not only cuz they were so helpful but i actually enjoyed watching your tutorials and reactions! its one of the best things on UA-cam i ever came across. i hope everything works out for you....i would really love if you start posting tutorials again here!
It's Great to have you back! I love learning from your videos! :) you should listen to Morgan Wallen's new sampler 'One thing at a time' also Ernest's new single 'songs we used to sing'
Thank you for sharing this. I’m so glad that you’re gonna focus on songwriting and guitar playing here because I can’t help but feel stuck especially because I’m also a self taught guitar player here on youtube.
I learned a lot of the songs I can play on guitar from you!! I’m so happy to know your back to do tutorials, they are the best on UA-cam!! Please show how to play any new Luke combs , Riley Green !!!
Thank you so much for being open and genuine on here. I’m currently 21 and trying to learn guitar from youtube videos so I really related to this. I’m also a huge taylor swift fan and I think cornelia street was the first video of yours that I watched. can’t wait to see where this channel goes!
I love the format you have on your channel. The reaction/lesson is so unique and its fun to watch you break down a song bit by by. Its like we're watching the video together and you're explaining it to me. All that's missing is a campfire and a couple of beers 😄
I appreciate what you do, I learned "you should probably leave" from you the other day. You're a great teacher. Also, it's good to step away ever once in awhile, i do it to and seems like when i come back and get better faster
Dude, this was such an awesome video to end up watching, at first I wanted to neglect it because I really thought you were done making videos lol, but thank god I watched it, I am just like you man, I love singing, I love music I love country music I love it all, currently I’m in nursing school I graduate in June, and every night I’m up till 2 or 3 AM trying to learn how to play the guitar and it’s all from your tutorials! I love watching your videos, I have never seen such helpful guitar tutorial videos, I just started to learn 3 months ago I took 3 lessons and didn’t learn much from it, I’ve learned more from one of your videos then I’ve learned in this three lessons, your amazing at what you do man I’m so glad your not gonna stop because people like me need you! I want to be just as fluid as you are on the guitar man, sometimes I pull up your videos to show my family how talented you are, please don’t stop you can’t give up you have so much potential and talent💪🏽 thank you so much for making these vids Derrick
I somehow missed this video of yours, just watched it now. I’m glad you’ve decided to stick to guitar and continue with your channel, thank you for that. I remember seeing your Cornelia street video, I enjoyed it so so much, and probably watched it at least 10 times while trying to play it 😊 I literally started playing guitar (at 39) because of this particular Taylor performance. For song recommendations - any Taylor Swift song will be great for me. 😊
A couple months back I came across your videos and I became obsessed!! I love the way you teach and you seem very passionate for what you do. Thank you for sharing your story and I hope to learn more from you. Happy new year :)
So glad to see you back! You’re a huge reason I picked up my guitar again. I found your channel and was really impressed with how attune your ears are to key changes, etc. Keep the Taylor tutorials coming! Also, would love your insight into “beginner things”-like how to speed up chord changes, how to hear strumming patterns, etc. Thank YOU for all you do! Welcome back!
Hey Derrik, I really enjoy your work here on youtube and I think you really did a great job and make the difference. I learned some songs (mostly Ed Sheeran songs) that I didn't have found anywhere else. Thank you for that and welcome back
Hey Derrik ! Thank you for sharing your journey. I have been a subscriber from almost over a year now. I have learnt a lot from your videos. I very much admire your way of teaching guitar and am honestly blown away by how talented you are. Please don’t ever think of quitting guitar or music. You’re very very skilled and blessed. Looking forward to more videos. Big things are definitely ahead for you, wishing all the success and happiness !
Hey Derrik! Im one of those people who went to check your channel when Midnights came out (several times actually 😂). I realized you were silent for months so I thought maybe you were focusing on family, friends and so on. I'm really happy to have you back, I think your videos are very calm and nice so I like em ☺When it comes to your jaw singing, I'm not a professional singer but I sing by myself for hours, since I was like 9, because I love it so I know a bit (+ watching vocal coaches sometimes). I'd say maybe you could talk about this with a vocal coach, it's very important to maintain your mouth/jaw, tongue and overall muscles relaxed when you sing. In fact, this happens to me if I sing really "hard" songs (louder, more projected) and when I realize I try to correct it and it goes away eventually with practice. I hope it helps 🙌😊
My favorite artist is Andrew McMahon (and his current "band" Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness). His music is mostly piano based but it could be cool to do a video on covering a piano based song on guitar.
I'm not as consistent with my guitar as i would like to be and though i stil lhave tons and tons of work to do it means a lot to see someone as talented as you you share the struggles and your story and put into perspective how anyone really can do something as long as they put their time and effort into it. Thank you for sharing, it makes me know that i just have to try and i can finally make dreams come true, thank you for all you do and inspiring so many of us. I wish you the best for whatever may come in the future and hopefully everything works out.
Derrick I really love all your Taylor guitar tutorials. I want to learn to play guitar and you’ll be my teacher. I’ll learn from your tutorials that are so inspiring and insightful. Thank you 🙏 for sharing all these videos and I’m so happy you’re going to continue posting videos. I really love your channel.
You’re awesome, man. So glad you’re back. Take care of yourself! Looking forward to whatever content you give us. You’re the reason I’m teaching myself guitar, so I am grateful for you and want to thank you for all you do! Your Taylor videos are my favorite haha.
Derrik, so glad you're back, you were surely missed by all of us. I would love if you found the time to break down "Joy of my Life" Chris Stapleton. Thank you in advance, can't wait to learn from you.
Dude, I'm sorry to hear this news. Just want you to know I just recently discovered your channel as I'm starting to learn guitar the exact same way you did. Your teaching style is something I really like whether you're playing or not. You quickly became my go-to guy to quickly get learning some great songs. I hope you can find this encouraging and hope the body feels better soon. Thanks brother. Also been listening to Boy by Lee Brice and Back To Life by Rascal Flatts
Looking forward to your content. I'm 38 and just started a year ago. I tried the "self teach" method and struggled. Got an instructor and doing better but still feel like I should be further along. Looking forward to the more beginner type content.
Derrik! I’m glad to hear you’re back and doing well. I want to thank you for all your work that you’ve put in! Hearing you talk about how you learned guitar at 21 through UA-cam gave me goosebumps because that is me. I’m 21 and have been learning guitar for a few months now. Your videos have taught me so much on how to play and I have learned so much from you. You’re a very good person and I know you’ll do great things being the type of man that you are. All I can say is thank you, Derrik!!!
So glad to see you back, so excited to learn more great songs from your tutorials, consider having a look at sza's sos and sabrina carpenter's emials i cant send, they both have lots of fun guitar in them and are great albums. ♥♥♥
So glad you put this video out and hearing your story. So many different paths and always keep the door open. I came across your videos last year when I bought a guitar and came across your channel. When trying to learn a song I would always come to your channel. The reaction to your Shawn Mendes are top helped me learn those songs. And your 7 Summers tutorial is the best. Cannot wait to see what you put out next
Dude, it’s refreshing to see someone on UA-cam have some serious humility. I’ve watched your channel here and there for a while, but I’ll be in tune with you from now on for sure. I think some stuff on songwriting would be so awesome. Your tutorials are already some of the best but just some raw stuff on songwriting or some more advanced guitar stuff theory wise would be awesome.
Man I've missed ya. So many guitar tuts on youtube and you're one of my favs. I learned my first song thanks to you and have just advanced since then. Glad to see you're back!
So glad you’re back Derrik! I actually decided to learn guitar two years ago after watching your first video, the tutorial for Cornelia Street. It’s one of my favorite Taylor’s songs and your tutorial gave me so much motivation to buy a guitar and start learning! Now I’m much better at guitar playing than when I first started, and I just want you to know that I’ve learned so much from your videos. Thanks so much for your channel and everything❤️ Btw, anticipating a tutorial for Taylor’s Anti-Hero at the 1975 concert! 😉
Glad you’re doing ok! Excited to have you back! I have gotten hugely into the band called The National Parks. I think you’d enjoy a lot of their music. But I’m most interested in learning how to play their song “Chance”.
Whatever happens we aren’t going anywhere bro. However you choose to change your content or keep the same going, post for yourself and what’s best for you and what you enjoy because that’s what we enjoy and we’ll be here for it. I’ve learned so much from your videos and i know thousands of people have too. PS this new content talk about songwriting and such sounds awesome and i know i’m excited to take in what you have to give and i know all of us are too, so keep it up man and we’ll be here every step :).
Love the story brother & you should check out anything Hardy is doing. He’s dirt road country but rocks out and in my opinion one of the best writers in Nashville and will blow your mind the way he writes songs.Keep up the good work man and looking forward to watching again.
Bro, I’ve been on a songwriting journey for a while now. Got into it in 2012, and really hit it hard from 2020 til now. If you even need recommendations or tips it might be cool to talk
Loved hearing your story, if you could please react to Alejandro Aranda aka Scarypoolparty, he won 2nd place on American Idol 2019, only one to play 7 original songs on the show, virtuoso guitar and piano player, also self taught and writes all his own music, also started playing guitar around age 19-20, he says he used utube to learn also practiced everyday for 2 years before he started to busk on the street in California where is from Pomona, then at age 24 was on American idol, his latest album The Act of Forgiveness is awesome, he plays harder stuff also with a band, you can find almost all his music on , all streaming forms, under Scarypoolparty. And lots of great videos on his Scarypoolparty utube channel, have been obsessed with him since his first audition for American idol, most people watch that first, Out Loud is most well know song, The Darkness is a masterful acoustic guitar song that blows you away especially seeing live, I never miss a show when he is on tour, just finished a tour and will be releasing new music soon, he writes constantly, thanks for reading this and I hope you check him out
I would love to see you start down the Pentatonix rabbit hole. If you have never listened to them, I would suggest starting with Hallelujah, then their Daft Punk Melody, and their version of Bohemian Rhapsody... just make sure to put some type of filter/words/distortion over the video so you don't get copyrighted. If you play them, they will come...
Reaction and reaction/tutorial videos were never a thing for me. I usually skip past them. Too 'busy' these videos I guess. Straight up tutorials are best and seem to do very well for others. Congrats on that win man! Hope everything works out for ya in the future'!
I also found your channel from Taylor vid. My opinion, I think you should stick with guitar lesson as your main content and reaction as your side content becuz you should put your passion first ☺️. Don't feel pressure to do something that make you burn out. Also, could you make a vid on basic chord of guitar?
I would really like you to listen to “Does it have to be over” by Kameron Marlowe. Been wanting to learn how to play it too since the lyrics hit close to home.
So glad you're back! Your videos really help me learn. I'm self taught and I started at the age of 40. There is a song by Aaron Lewis called Someone, it's very special to me and I want to learn it to play hopefully at my wedding. If you could check it out I'd be grateful! Again glad you're back!
What songs/artists are you guys listening to right now? Comment below!
Zach Bryan, Colter Wall & Charles Wesley Godwin.
Zach Bryan. Morgan Wallen. Ernest. Hardy. Tyler Zimmerman.
Harry Mack the best freestyler rapper in this generation
First of all, glad that you’re back :)
Taylor swift, Zach Bryan, Morgan Wallen, and Kameron Marlowe are my favs rn. But I’m also really excited for hardy’s album coming out next week
Marcus King Band - Goodbye Carolina
Larry Fleet - When I Find God
Thanks for all you do Brother! Much appreciated!

thank you so much Jennifer. That is such a thoughtful and kind comment. More Taylor stuff coming soon!
I’m so glad to hear you’ll be back!!! You’re one of my favorite music UA-camrs the way you teach it’s great!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

You posting this as I’m walking out of the doctors office. Hearing I can’t play guitar for awhile. (also my left wrist).
Keep going man, you’ve really helped my playing.
That's how i found you. I'm learning from you tube. You are very good at tutorials! Thanks
Bro you gave me a scare there. I thought from the title you were done for good. Love the content! Glad you're back!
Glad you’re back! I’d love to get a tutorial on how you break down a song by ear to figure out how to play it!

Great suggestion!
Please react/how to play Morgan Wallen and Hardy and Ernest’s new stuff. So good.
Also been listening to Boy by Lee Brice and Back To Life by Rascal Flatts
thanks Greyson!
Looking forward to your content. I'm 38 and just started a year ago. I tried the "self teach" method and struggled. Got an instructor and doing better but still feel like I should be further along. Looking forward to the more beginner type content.
You got this!
Hardest part for me was that first year. It’s gonna take time. Don’t get frustrated
Your tutorials are already some of the best but just some raw stuff on songwriting or some more advanced guitar stuff theory wise would be awesome.
thanks Tyler! appreciate that
Love your channel and appreciate your post. Thanks for sharing your story
I’ve been looking for you and your Taylor Swift content! I wish only good health and happiness for you!
Man I've missed ya. So many guitar tuts on youtube and you're one of my favs. I learned my first song thanks to you and have just advanced since then. Glad to see you're back!
thanks Luke!
I would love some vids on songwriting. Glad you're back to YT.
coming soon!
Great to see you pop up on my feed again. Wishing you all the best in the health and wellness departments! 💜
Glad your back. Hope you are well man
luv u man, u need to keep uploading
Glad you’re doing ok! Excited to have you back! I have gotten hugely into the band called The National Parks. I think you’d enjoy a lot of their music. But I’m most interested in learning how to play their song “Chance”.
Also anything Kacey Musgraves would be great
thanks Jared! I haven't heard of that band, but I'll check them out!
would love to see you produce some songs, if you ever even do that
glad to see you are doing ok, and congrats on making a decision for the things that you're really passionate about.
Whatever happens we aren’t going anywhere bro. However you choose to change your content or keep the same going, post for yourself and what’s best for you and what you enjoy because that’s what we enjoy and we’ll be here for it. I’ve learned so much from your videos and i know thousands of people have too. PS this new content talk about songwriting and such sounds awesome and i know i’m excited to take in what you have to give and i know all of us are too, so keep it up man and we’ll be here every step :).
appreciate that a lot Gavin!
Love the story brother & you should check out anything Hardy is doing. He’s dirt road country but rocks out and in my opinion one of the best writers in Nashville and will blow your mind the way he writes songs.Keep up the good work man and looking forward to watching again.
hardy is one of my favorites!
So glad you are back
love your videos i learn a lot from them!
My guitar hero is back!🎉
Bro, I’ve been on a songwriting journey for a while now.
You should listen and do some of Tyler Braden’s stuff!! Preferably “Try Losing One” or “Secret” first!!!
Have always wanted to learn Hide from a Broken Heart - Dallas Smith
Reaction and reaction/tutorial videos were never a thing for me. I usually skip past them. Too 'busy' these videos I guess. Straight up tutorials are best and seem to do very well for others.
Congrats on that win man! Hope everything works out for ya in the future'!
Can you please do a tutorial on anything from Bailey Zimmerman? I would especially love to see a tutorial for Rock in a Hard Place.
Would love song writing videos. Hearing process helps you develope your own
you are the man
I also found your channel from Taylor vid. My opinion, I think you should stick with guitar lesson as your main content and reaction as your side content becuz you should put your passion first ☺️. Don't feel pressure to do something that make you burn out. Also, could you make a vid on basic chord of guitar?
I’ve been waiting for sooo long I want to know ur reaction to Taylor’s new album midnights
I have been wanting to find a tutorial for "How do you know" by Josh Kerr for a while but haven't seen one.
Hi Derrick, Do you have the song that you wrote and won the contest with on your channel ?
yes!!!!!
Hugs!! 🤟🏻🤗
Thanks Derrik, I learnt easier thanks to your videos!
I wonder if you've taken singing lessons. I did have some problems with muscles, and jaw, similar to yours before I did.
What books did you study on songwriting?
@DerrikRockne can you pls do some mateus asato pls.....i really like the way you react on videos dude..... 😁 😊
Can you listen to some of the new morgan wallen/hardy songs?
