  • Mike Sackey and Larry Decker met in 1969 with a fist fight in a Catholic School parking lot... they were both 10 years old and it was the first day of 5th grade. The arch-enemies would have more fist fights over the years until eventually gaining some mutual respect. In 9th grade they cut last hour by 10 minutes.'.. walking home Sackey mentioned he had drum lessons that night... Decker said "wait... what?" The band started that night... since then they've played empty dive bars to 30,000 roaring people at the packed Pontiac Silverdome where The Shy (named in 1981) was invited to perform their original composition, a military tribute named Thank You Jo(e) at a Presidential Rally... 5 singles, 2 EPs and 6 albums from 1983-2017. All with the help of collaborators, compadre's, and other members of The Shy: John Hagle, Ken York, Paul Lark and Bob Livernois... Together, these people, especially "Sack" saved my life, gave me purpose, and I am grateful - Larry Decker

Looks like a basement gig, guessing a friend's party? Haven't been on Facebook in a couple hrs, nice to see the old gigs on UA-cam. Dig the tribute in the description to Sack, Paul and the other members over the years. I can still go back to the mid 80's getting ready to hit, Griffs grill or paper clip, or my favorite lillys 21 with D3. Or getting my post card of the up and coming gigs penned to, Dandy Don Farlow. While I miss many who are saving a spot in the next journey. I'm often reminded how blessed I was to have grown up in Dresden subdivision. Time truly does fly, thank God for clips like these to remind me how lucky my life has been. Thanks Larry for these videos to stir my memories of the way it was going up in arguably the best neighborhood that went to Henry Ford ll.
