As a Smokejumper from Missoula Montana I had the privilege of seeing and staying in places I know I'll never see again, unless I para chute in like I did. I flew from Palmer to Galina, & what SIGHT my eyes got to see. Thanks for making these videos!
Thank you for the video on the race Stan. Much respect for those that take the time and money to do these kind of races. It's a testament to the lifestyle and hard working attitude almost all northerners have for their communities. It's heart warming to see Joe and Sam take part in the race. I'm sure they had an interesting time with the breakdown, if not for that they may have been in first place. Thanks again for all you do to bring us your videos on the life style you have and so graciously share. Great production man hope to see more soon. Take care and keep smiling sir!
Stan that is so cool. Looks like a lot of fun and the weather looks beautiful. It was also nice to see Charlie. Looks like he lost some weight. Looks good! Take care, and all the best!!
I love these new vids stan keep them coming they just get better!!! Looks like plenty of fun the weather is gorgeous you folks are really living it up.
I'm so happy to see you and your son Joe here! I've missed you guys so much on TV! I've set my notifications to see your new stuff as well. Glad to have you back!
Good Luck Joe! Thanks Stan always good to see your Video's. Hope to see more soon. Be sure to let us know how the Race went. I hope Joe and his Crew Win and all have a safe ride.
Alright! Good to hear they made it in good time. Thanks Stan and keep your video's coming when you can. Spirit be with you all and a good Hunting season ahead.
It’s cool that I’ve seen most of those people on their tv show!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What’s up Stan?? And joe!!! Y’all are my favorite family on the show!! Y’all seem like really great people! God bless you and your family
I just love your vidos. It really makes want to vist .My mother has a friend who is from your town.I always want to go see were she was from. She would tell us great stories from when she was growing up.
Very expensive for mostly low budget racers but they love doing it. Not like pro car racing expenses though. Many rebuild the engines themselves and scrounge parts.
Guess we'll just be happy they watch. Many are in a hurry I'm sure. Media worlds like that - so much going on.. I know there are so many things I don't do also. I see chat and notifications and private mesages and I feel bad I can't respond. Got my own little limited world just keeping up with reading/liking peoples posts and commenting on questions asked - and the occasional video or pictures on Facebook etc. .
Always enjoy your videos, which I find to be very informative and interesting. I especially like learning about the customs & lore of the area; but had difficulty hearing Kathleen’s narrative due to my old ears and the background noise. Please keep the videos coming.
I'm an Alaskan refugee, our family fled back in '73 to "retire", but we had too many brands in the fire, Dad finally said no more in 1990 with the 3 weeks of 60 below freezing temps in Anchorage, but I loved watching this race more than the Iditarod. Back when, the hulls were aluminum or fiberglass with aluminum reinforcement, but I don't know if they're using carbon composite now or not. And these outboards, from the size, I wouldn't say much more than 35 horse, but how much wrenching/$$$ goes into them? Are we talking tuned ports for intake and exhaust, ground heads, domed ground pistons vs cast iron, are they running premium or 110 low-lead avgas? Custom carb/jets for intake? I'm not sure what you meant by chopper prop, I'm guessing at around 8 minutes that looks like a pretty steep bite for an outboard, close to if not 45 degree overall, but if you hold half of a prop out of the water, it's losing 50% of it's thrust. The lower half of the outboard being submerged would make sense, but not half of the prop itself. Sorry for the late post, it's been even longer for me with this sport. Btw, anyone know where I can score pint jars of fireweed jelly? I've got lower 48er's begging for it.
My son Joe is really into his race boat. He had to get race committee okay to race his first Yukon 800 as he was under 18. Youngest captain of a boat to ever race in the 800. Boats are all plywood and screws and nails and wood glue. Pretty primitive in this day of high tech epoxies and carbon fibers. Motors are all stock blocks (required) and limited to 50 hp at the prop so the old 50 Mercury at the driveshaft is not allowed. Props do run out of the water and the lower unit is all redone and the water intake is on the underside of the front of the gear case. It's a love to these guys that race and they often spend all their disposable (and more) for a year on their race.
Hello Stan. Really enjoying the videos. Hey it is difficult to hear your vids sometimes, I couldn’t hear your wife well, and was interested in what she had to say. Do you have microphones or planned on getting some? Just a small thing, but love the videos none the less.
I know and that video it was a mistake but did not want to not put it on. Sometimes a computer is much more loud than a phone but not sure what you're using. Some of my old videos are degraded VCR ones but again the options were no video as I have already increased sound during the editing. To just get better at doing it is the secret.
Thinking out loud here... Some videos of hunting and trapping this winter would be awesome. Now that Tanana is loved by millions you don't need a TV channel to keep the "Yukon People" story out there. One of those chest-mounted GoPro cameras might come in handy. Example: Before Joey goes hunting or trapping strap the chest-mount camera on him. When he gets back he gives you the camera and you edit down to maybe 10-15 minutes of prime video. Do the same with Charlie and others... PS: Where can I buy one of those Tanana Fire Department t-shirts? I would also like to buy a fur hat and mittens made by the Tanana ladies. The Tanana/Zuray online store could be very helpful to other villagers.
Nobody is making the Tanana Fire shirts anymore. I never did it. Last person was one of the cameramen on the show but he sold all his equipment. Go to Courtney's Facebook page for fur products etc.
Great view of the river and town! Everyone has come out for the race! Does the village put on a dinner for everyone on this day? Stan what would the gas prices be up there ?
Looks so nice there! I live 10 min. From work ,but that is still to far for me!!!! 4 stop signs or 1 stop sign and 1 light depending on what way you want to go ! I drove back from Quebec to southern Ontario 2 weeks ago and I have never seen so much traffic!!! I said to my wife there is something wrong with this lifestyle!!! I am sure you don't miss that!!! You said in the show you came from the big city!!! NewYork maybe!!! So quite there! Except for the boats that day!!
Hey Stan..Thanks for another great video...Just wondering..What length boat and what horsepower engine do they use ?..Must be hell trying to keep them cool..
Limit is 50 hp at the prop shaft. Said to be the fastest boats per horsepower in the world. That lightness is what makes them so physically hard to handle especially for 400 miles 2 days in a row. Any small water roughness transmits to a situation in which a mellow comfortable ride is not to be had. That and dodging logs.
We were paid for the initial filming and that is all. Reruns are not in our contract. The TV industry rarely does that especially with small scale cast people like us.
Fuck if I’m pissed. Those greedy shits. I want my money to go to u. U all work so hard and I need to figure out how to bye the seasons but get the money to u
Are these “stock” boats, or do the participants have to build the boats themselves. Perhaps a future video could have joey explaining the boat, as I could not tell what you meant by “Upper & Lower” unit, I saw only one propeller.
47 years, damn I think Nixon was pres. you been there that long. Massachusetts hasn’t left you man. Incidentally, I’m Sorry to hear about those gas leaks what the hells going on there in Mass?
Davis Fred I live about 30 minutes from Lawrence/N.Andover....I said the same thing!! For as long as he’s been away from Mass he really has kept a thick Massachusetts accent!! As far as the gas leak....what a mess!
Believe these boats are an extention of the long flat bottom boats used with low horsepower outboards all up and down the Yukon years back. It was not that long ago so that history is hardly ancient or contested. The race is still firmly in the hands of the native community from what I see although other ethnic race people are involved and welcomed. As with the dog teams that raced it was originally people gathereing and tuning their boats and dogs up to see could be the fastest after a hard season of fishing or trapping.
Thank you Stan. Great to be able to keep up with our favorite Yukon families...
Soooo awesome, interesting looking long boats, great weather for the race and what a proud dad🤗🖤👍
As a Smokejumper from Missoula Montana I had the privilege of seeing and staying in places I know I'll never see again, unless I para chute in like I did. I flew from Palmer to Galina, & what SIGHT my eyes got to see. Thanks for making these videos!

Pretty cool Stan. Takes me back to my youth on the Great Lakes ... not 800 miles but wave busting all day. Good crowd, cute women. Best
I love the fact the river is essentially Main Street!!
Awesome stuff...gr8 community.
I just love your vidos. It really makes want to vist .My mother has a friend who is from your town.I always want to go see were she was from. She would tell us great stories from when she was growing up.
What was the family name and when. Been there since 1973
Thumbs up
Enjoyed!!
Looks like a blast !!!!
Hi Charlie
Loads of fun
That looks like fun! Hope Joe does good.
The video description has some info on race. Joe came in 3rd which is great.
That really IS good. 800 mile race would be a grueling race. Congrats Joe!
I love your lifestyle stan
Hey that's Sean, the dog kennel guy work for me Moore.
Hey Stan they're trolling too fast can hardly keep your lure in the water. Haha.
Parabéns vcs são d+++++++++++++++👍👏
What a blast, 6000 rpm is really pushing a stock motor for sure. Must be expensive to run wide open for 800 miles
Very expensive for mostly low budget racers but they love doing it. Not like pro car racing expenses though. Many rebuild the engines themselves and scrounge parts.
cant believe so many people watch and don't give a thumbs up
Guess we'll just be happy they watch. Many are in a hurry I'm sure. Media worlds like that - so much going on.. I know there are so many things I don't do also. I increased the volume on that part also but know what you mean.

What make and horsepower motor does he have on his boat
Thank you for the video, 3 person crew?
Yes 3 people for safety
@@stanzuray ..thanks
Great video to watch! So was this filmed at a "pit stop" of sorts to refuel? I'm a little confused (nothing new)....
It was a pit stop to gas up. Mandatory time at checkpoint. Next stop Galena (400 mile point) and spend night.

I thought I recognized that voice!
Great view of the river and town! Everyone has come out for the race! Does the village put on a dinner for everyone on this day? Stan what would the gas prices be up there ?
Gas around 5.50 lately. Was almost $7 one time. Racers are fed but no town dinner as they just stop for gas and food.
Looks so nice there! I live 10 min. From work ,but that is still to far for me!!!! 4 stop signs or 1 stop sign and 1 light depending on what way you want to go ! Wow that is a big race distance you don’t do things by half up there in Alaska Stan.!
Hey Stan..Thanks for another great video...Just wondering..What length boat and what horsepower engine do they use ?..Must be hell trying to keep them cool..

Thanks Stan.....I didn't even think of the logs floating....Insane !!! Joe is quite the daredevil.....Be safe..
No other boat hull design does more mph than horespwer!
Yes I have always heard that too.
I enjoy your videos so much. Its was very hard to understand Kathleen due to background noise.
Is Joey's team in the lead?
I know - was disappointed in that audio - should have had it closer but lots going on. Better on a computer. Joe was not in lead that day.
Re watching...the series seasons 123 once again..question? I’m gonna buy 4567 .. love to make sure the money goes to the cast.
We were paid for the initial filming and that is all. Reruns are not in our contract. The TV industry rarely does that especially with small scale cast people like us.

Are these “stock” boats, or do the participants have to build the boats themselves. Perhaps a future video could have joey explaining the boat, as I could not tell what you meant by “Upper & Lower” unit, I saw only one propeller.
dang it is 93 today saying all week will be like this
Rich man sport
CHARLIE AND SAM
Thought I might see a suped-up long tail motor like the Asians use...some of them are blistering fast!
Joe was haling ass lol
I wish i could have heard Kathleen.
When do all start to get cold up there ? I am in ohio.
Be in the 30's at night real soon. Freezing weather by end of Sept.
I thought it was terrorism, thankfully not!
I've never seen leading boat design tech overcome mph/horsepower, without whity stealing it! Wtf!

Quanto ti invidio
Don't envy it too much - nobody's life is perfect . Take care.
