Aviate, navigate, communicate. I’m thinking the pilots absolutely knew the procedures and the required check list; they were aviating first as required.

Periods of silence are cut from these videos so it sounds like all of the conversations are happening in rapid sequence. IRL, it's not as hectic as it seems on the video.
Good job on the other pilot for staying out of it until the realized they could be the critical link in letting ATC know what the AA plane was doing and why.
The pressure was dropping. They performed an emergency decent before the cabin depressurised. The cabin pressure didn't teach the threshold before they got to 10000. Pilots put on masks based on policy and procedures.
That first ATC certainly didn't treat this emergency as such, and the second one was just a PEST. How many times do you have to ask about the oxygen masks?
Hearing the words 'Mayday' sends shivers down me. In the UK the way in which a Mayday is handled is much different to the USA - anyone else notice this?
The pilot stated that he needs to return to Miami , ATC what are your intentions, find that question remarkable. ATC asking the same question multiple times……
I love it, you arm chair pilots damming the ATC, they are doing there jobs, after all they are also responsible for the safety of the passengers as well.. It is there job to ask questions.. I work for a Airline and I am thankful that they are asking questions to the pilots and its also away to tell if the pilots are feeling the oxygen levels dropping.. You people hate everything that is a good thing
Sounds like ATC is being bothered for the info, so ends up passing the info along ... then the next controller is ALSO bothered for the info when they get the plane, so asks again, not knowing the answer was already given!
Why in the absolute hell can't they share the info with whoever they are handing the plane off to? Why do they feel it's better to ADD to the fucking workload and clog up the air with repetitive info. Cmon ATC get it together!!
Where are all the commenters saying, "That woman pilot is really freaked out"? Oh....because the freaked out pilot sounds like a young white male. Everyone did a good job, and the pilot was understandably stressed with a heavy workload. It's just that when there is a female pilot under the same circumstances, there is always someone who makes a comment like that.
Yeah, way the hell too much talking from ATC, too much asking the same questions (ie not communicating between levels of ATC ) and very little that absolutely needed to be asked. Let them navigate and do their checklists for crying out loud
The ATC here is actually a clown show. Multiple non-believers with a MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY, asking for an IDENT when a A-liner is in distress. Multiple multiple requests if masks deployed in the cabin despite a NEGATIVE from the pilots. Multiple questions repeated if they want assistance on ground. There's just no seamless process from one ATC passed to another. It's very disturbing despite people praising the end result, which is all good. Even on 9/11 the ATC people are asking each other "is this real world?" over and over. One ATC asks on the 9/11 tapes "anyone good at math?"; when trying to calculate the Pentagon collision. At what point do ATC believe a pilot's urgent distress call on the 1st transmission? 2nd, 3rd confirmation 20-mins later? There's organic issues with ATC that are unresolved after decades; this is one moderate example of many, and some don't end well. Astoundingly, one of the ATC's says the pilot's mic is not on, despite an urgent MAYDAY that has to be worked through - Ditch the idiot comments and solve it, period. Per someone else posting, it's the ATC's job to ask questions; but listen first to what you're supposed to retain, act fast, then ask questions when safe and actually listen, act on, and believe the fggng answers.
You assume that the controller heard as well as you on the tape here. It did take a while to verify the ID of the flight due to com difficulties from the flight. Compression of the conversations makes it sound like the flight is being pressed. Good job by all.

If the masks didn't deploy due to the pilots not previously arming the passenger oxygen, then they have some serious explaining to do.
