What a radically new method of refreshing the pliers: repeatedly and alternately wdfortying them and knocking them on the floor.

    This may sound ridiculous, but….
The best way to loosen a new pair of kleins (aka lineman’s, Nines, Side cutters, hammer) that I have found is to sprinkle a little bit of clean white play sand into the backside of the head where the handles meet the head of the pliers, and then just pull them open and force them closed, repeat this until they’re loose. You’ll know they’re loose enough to not inflict carpal tunnel when you can toss them in the air in a flipping/spinning motion and they’ll clap open and closed repeatedly as they rotate. When they’re loose enough use a can of compressed air or an air compressor to shoot any sand out of the hinge that hasn’t already made its way out. You can finish them off with a bit of silicone spray lube or just a couple drops of motor oil. DONT USE WD-40, I repeat, DONT NOT USE WD-40 on your kleins. WD-40 stands for water displacement number 40 (the 40th formula that the Iver Norman Lawson tried), basically WD-40 is flat out NOT a lubricant, it was designed to repel water and as a penetrating formula for stuck bolts. In my experience it actually ends up promoting rust and attracting dirt on my hand tools. All that said, I prefer to work smart not hard so I just started buying Knipex lineman’s which come already loose from the factory. Check out Knipex 09 12 240 9-1/2 in. Ultra-High Leverage Lineman's Pliers with Fish Tape Puller, Crimper and Tether Attachment. Best $50 you’ll ever spend, I promise!

I just tried this on a pair of Japanese Marvel MVA200. Your method seems to work wonders! Thanks man!

I use metabo's "special tool shank grease" ,one time I didn't have anything else to loosen up my stuck pliers, and since then I have not used anything else for situations like these, despite being pretty thick it gets in everywhere and keeps joints nice and smooth, works better than anything else I tried.

I did this today with all my Kleins today and they operate like they are brand new. Excellent video. I recommend doing this once a month.

Klein’s are designed to be tightened or loosened by opening them with the pin side up and if you give it a good wack against metal they’ll tighten or loosen...

While laying flat on a concrete (or other hard surface) just with a hammer a couple times right on the joint. Usually works with no lube.

How long have you been doing work??? I’ve had the same pair of Klein lineman’s for 30yrs…. They only get blown up if you don’t know what you’re doing!

I'd rather break in that tight plier than than my klein's wobbling handle.

No need to drop them, that doesn’t do nothing but fuck them up....

3-1 oil works way better gets all my pliers loosened up in 5 min. WD-40 is one of the cheapest lubricants wouldn’t recommend it never really worked for me oil never fails and use a lot less to get the job .

There is something familiar about this. I think my grandfather taught me the oil and drop.

Why you are dropping instead of shaking it a bit?

Wd40 is a rust remover not a lubricant.and wouldn't trust dropping any new kliens on tbe floor great way to break the handle

or you can just spray the wd 40 over night and by tomarrow it will be smoother

  • @b-2466

I would never do this to my klein tools. I just use them and let them loosen naturally.

    • @DamionJR4923

I use them and WD40. WD40 prevents rust also.
