I have a very young leopard gecko named Cricket who went blind because his shedded skin would stick to the gunk that formed in his eye, over time the gunk kept forming and eventually I had to take it upon my self to help him, after about a month of research and careful work i finally got the gunk out, along with the shedded skin, Cricket was only a couple months old at the time, but after this process Cricket went blind for a long time, but its now healing, however, I've heard that you have to be very patient with shedding and to only help when absolutely necessary. Good job for being on top of this.

@FlynnHarrod I was honestly wondering the same.
I do not have lizards, geckos, or anything of that likeness. What I do have are parrotlets, which are smaller breeds of parrots such as budgies, cockatiels, and gala parrots. They do not shed their skin, however, when their new feathers grow in after a molt, the stalk of the feathers are in a protective coating called a sheeth. At times we will have to "preen" the birds to remove sheeths and this feels similar since it's necessary to their existence. An encased feather will become brittle and break, causing the bird to bleed out because their blood cannot clot in the way that ours does.
It's interesting the things you learn spending years with a particular species. I just lost my oldest and only female cockatiel to asphyxiation. When you take the time to really learn how to care for them, it feels like losing a family member. Birds belonging to the "raptor" family makes me feel like we as Avian enthusiasts have more in common with Reptile and Amphibian caretakers than we care to admit. Just a bunch of humans taking care of evolved "dinosaurs." LOL.🦕

I think essentially all domestic animals are domestic in the first place because on some level they do understand that we're empathetic, helpful things. My dog kind of proved it by pulling her limbs out of the way and giving kisses and stuff when she was sitting for medical treatment. Total exposure of a weak spot. Total trust. Two empathetic parties are a necessary component of that. It's amazing when you really look at how our pets interact with us

For anyone who doesn't know. Usually reptiles struggle to shed around eyes, fingers and other appendages which can cause issues, so at times the pet owner has to help to prevent issues. Although only if the skin is already flaked off slightly and never, EVER rip off a reptiles shedding skin with force. It'll hurt the creature more than helping it. 😇

For shedding, if there is stuck shed and the reptile is struggling to remove it, it is indeed helpful to help them at least a little. Even just loosening it will help. Shallow, warm baths are a good idea too :)

I hate these comments, they are not in the wild so stop comparing them as such. In the wild stuck sheds lead to lost limbs, as well as they don’t survive nearly as long as captive do. As owners it may not be needed to beardies cause most the time they do it on their own but sometimes we need to step it to keep them happy and safe. 🙄
