Surely if the cable catches fire it’s already too late?!

If you watch the Hager video, once the flame is seen it immediately disappears once the power is cut, but it’s this illustration that I think still causes people concern 😕

    Hager won't change it.
They didn't change the RCD'S that didnt trip on 5x testing inside 40ms. They got the regs changed so the test was removed.
Also, there are no testers for AFDD'S so how are we as electricians supposed to test them and make sure they are still working suring a EICR?

Did you know that in the US they have been using AFDDs for ages and they have testers? So I hope that one of the major brands converts them for 230v and launches them asap
      Would help everyone

@@TorqueUp question is do they US AFDD work the same as ours as ours tend to have a micro processer in them. if us have had them for ages they might be using something other than a processor and would then determine of the tester would work on our..... but not Hager's coz they don't work properly

      Thanks mate
What do you go to if you’re in a property that needs them based on the regs?

@@TorqueUp obviously regs would be followed but my current field of work im not involved in those kind of properties.
what I meant is dont proactively upsell them i issue specific T&Cs regarding AFDDs mainly regarding fault finding.
Mine as you know have been a nightmare and its definitely given me a perspective in what could happen if id installed at a customers just not worth the agro.

@@rickybyrne8185 I think you nailed it there. But putting them in your own house first to figure out whether you'd have issue was a stroke on luck and genius!
Have your issues been sorted now then?

@@TorqueUp yes and no, so the tripping has stopped since i replaced the grid switches which leads me to think it was that, that may have been the issue with the arching, between the last trip and the grids going in there was a Hager update so im going to see if we can roll back to confirm of it was the switches or the washing machine.
But either way if it was the switches then Hagers device has been operating correctly on detecting a fault its all theory at this stage but but this is my own independent investigation so no bias is clouding an opinion
