It still shouldn't make you treat a person differently as a result. @@llyn5759I haven’t watched the movie, but from what I’ve gained from this video, the man and other colleagues are uncomfortable with the woman’s revealing attire in a professional setting. It is a justified reaction that does not berate the woman, but simply notifies that her apparel is inappropriate.
The thing is when she doesn’t care to take others feelings into account by how she acts and dresses when they’re made to follow the rules, she can’t expect others will be willing to lend a hand. The desk woman’s job is not helping Erin get her stuff in order. That’s called a favor, small but still this is why it’s important to at least be nice if she’s gonna go and be this unorthodox, cuz she’ll still need help from others no matter how brilliant she is at cracking a case. Otherwise you’d see the boss himself being a tyrant, but he needs his office’s support to get what he needs done too even though I’m sure he knows how to do all their jobs.
@@Patience2dream- She asked in a polite way. She wasn’t rude to the woman behind the desk. She simply requested clarification on something that would be an oddity to anyone. The other women in the office were being catty towards her (largely out of jealousy) and she chose not to let it get to her. That seems more like a them problem and not a her problem.
@@TaeryntheaErin is such a good example of authenticity. They thought she dressed unprofessionally but their behaviour was even more unprofessional because they refuse to answer what is a very polite and pertinent question that is meant to help the clients -the very reason they get paid to be there- because they are petty and jealous. F them clients lol my priority here is her fashion choice that I disagree and that has literally zero impact on my life or on the job she is performing. For that alone, Erin had a better professional conduct than the lady. It is not called doing her job or a favor, it is called teamwork
This movie is just an interpretation. In real-life corporate culture, you’re expected to dress according to the company’s image. I’m not taking sides, I’m just clarifying.
If you have actually watched the movie or know, the true story of Erin Brockovich, she was actually like this, and she actually did dress like this and she didn’t have a problem because she wasn’t working in traditional corporate America.
This was real life though… Erin Brockovich (I’m probably spelling it wrong) was a phenomenal woman who accomplished things a lot of people daydream about doing and the movie/this scene is portraying what she actually went through!!!
The last client, the one with the girl who got cancer. They did get the money, but the dad blew the 2 million in bad real estate deals. Google it. I think financial literacy is something people should receive when they get over $1 million in a class action suit.
this story really happened. its not a question what we think about it, its about what happened for real. The film is portaying a single mother working herself up from secretary to partner in a law firm and saved lives with a memorable mega courtcase whos jurisdiction still changed america's history. Her autobiography was turned into a film. So this scene has really happened . As a secretary you are not supposed to be interested in the content of the courtfiles but only in your presentation. She broke that rule.
She overlooked social norms focused on appearances and focused only on substance, in this case the drive and passion for justice. It is precisely this authentic personality that allowed her to be pushy and change history, it was her moral compass to what truly matters. I would take her over 72849 judgmental perfectly dressed women. Superficial demands many times distract us from being able to filter what makes someone a good person.
@@VadiseDeHanyou Clothing vouchers for uniforms (dress code requirements) do exist. There are employers who will provide money for the work attire they wish to see a highly-qualified, and valuable employee be able to purchase. If you haven't heard of such a thing maybe it's time to consider seeking better. No one should ever criticize anyone's choice of clothing, hair, nails, etc. unless they are fully prepared to pull out their wallets, and take their employees on a shopping spree. Being kind, and considerate will always go a very long way. If an employer isn't investing (money) in their employees to "look" as they supposedly "require" they are not truly grateful for you to be on their team. Going in debt to purchase clothing, shoes, hair, etc is EXPENSIVE. If I'm going to go in debt paying out of my wallet it will not ever be for anyone else's gain.
I'm a straight woman who has seen plenty of women dress a bit on the sexy side... it does not bother me one bit. And I help colleagues who need my help because it feels good. I can tell the difference between someone who is hard working and needs help vs. someone who is just using me. I learned that right quick. All you women who want to dress in your style... go do it. Break those glass ceilings. Just like in the movie... that maybe some of you didn't watch or missed the point.
There’s no dress code for their office so she wasn’t violating any code of conduct. If there was, it would have been mentioned. She shouldn’t be sorry that other girls feel inadequate next to her or that guys are too pervy to focus on their work. Instate a dress code or stfu.
I have quite literally never seen a pretty girl be treated badly primarily for being pretty. Not in school, not at work, nowhere. If she was ostracized, she did something. I don’t know where men come up with these things but it’s impressive. No proof, just an assumption. “Well they would have hated her anyways”
@@Firstofanyone I'm not trying to brag about myself....I'm 53 now, but when I was younger I was very pretty (according to others) and I can think of many times when a girl was jealous of me and treated me poorly .I'm a hairstylist- one day, many years ago, I was cutting this man's hair (like any other day) when his gf suddenly walks up and gets in my personal 3 feet of space. She stood far too close to me with her arms crossed and stared me down like I had just kissed him. My manager had to tell her where the chairs were so she would get away from me. I did nothing but cut his hair. Whatever was going on was her problem. The point is, I was treated poorly by a woman for doing my job bc she was jealous that I was cutting her boyfriend's hair. It was ridiculous.
Yeah, that’s so weird for there to be medical documents at a real estate office. What does that have to with homes and property? I really would like to know.
I can see why there is a dress code, jus like in high school if you wear inappropriate clothing u get sent home , I suppose this distracts people from doing their work weather it be at school or work. But yes women definitely get jealous.
Women at the same pay scale don't usually help each other at work, which sucks. The woman had no idea about the blood/urine samples and never thought to question it so she deflected. Most people just want their paycheck, instead of looking for opportunities to move up.
Just got out of a horrible workplace just like that. Never got emails back and questions never answered. Couldn’t learn more as the women were malicious and emotionally abusive. The only thing I took when I left is how not to be in the workplace. I can completely understand why women were kept out of the workplace as we just can’t get along. Well maybe just the old, losing their looks and have to take out on everyone else around them women are. Could be jealousy. Thank God I got out. 5 years of hell!😅
Mmmm it’s not appropriate work attire especially in an office setting. Let’s keep it a buck. You don’t have to be insecure to understand that certain clothing isn’t appropriate.
Tbf though if you want to work in real estate you can not dress like that.. 😂 I’m an architect and had an unofficial HR talk for wearing a tank top during summer, because you could see 2mm of my waist with high top suit pants 😂😂
It's always women for the most part who have an issue with other women's attire smh. And most times the ones complaining are not that effective at their job. So instead of complaining about another's attire, focus on doing a great job.
Put a black dot in white sheet of paper. Then display it to everyone. All their attention will be to the black spot but not to the whole white area. A second lady had come to work in our office but her charisma is a not only by look but her work and her English and interaction. You give a dictation on the subject in your English and she brings you an excellent letter. By over time you too get a better English.
Ooo regardless of attire, dont need to be rude, i was frustrated where the movie cit off. I dont remember what happen next... wanted to see her nicely pit her in her place. Lol
People do have a terrible habit of only discussing what's shown in the clip being discussed. Especially when other details are literally directly addressed in the film they are from.
Exactly. It's a genuine query for a weird situation, that her colleague just shoots down without even engaging with it. Turned out Erin was absolutely right to follow up on it, of course.
For anyone who doesn’t know what the movie is, it’s “Erin Brockovich”. It’s not about money or time so why must you put others down if you can also implement those changes
They're probably just jealous of how pretty you look. If you're looking nice it makes them look worse for not putting in the effort and they probably were resentful because of that. It's more of a reflection of their character than anything. It's not your problem. You do you honey!

This cuts so deep. I am very thin with exceptionally long legs and a 34F chest. At my last job 3 women bullied me to tears almost daily. They would comment on my clothes and body so loudly just to attract negative attention. 4 of us ladies had the exact same denim dress from Old Navy. The others were allowed to wear their dresses. Yet, I was told it showed too much leg. What do they expect me to do, cut a couple inches of leg off. One day I had a turtle neck on and was told it was too provocative for work. Finally an older gentleman said, Enough already, she can’t take her chest off and leave them home in the morning. Us men aren’t uncomfortable with her clothes, we’re uncomfortable with the rest of you ladies obsession with it. We’re grown adults, just do your job and stop looking at her so much if it bothers you that much. I was both grateful and mortified that it became such a big deal that even the quiet, kept to themselves, older gentleman noticed what was going on. My self esteem took a hit from that job. I have seen the movie. It’s based on a real person. In the movie, and in reality, the woman dressed inappropriately (very provocatively) in the work environment. I don’t care what she says, IT WAS INAPPROPRIATE TO DRESS THAT WAY in that specific work environment (it was a law firm). Given it was a law firm, and NOT a strip club NOR a Hooters, it was wrong to dress that way. Women who dress that way ARE INSECURE and ARE looking for attention, and validation from men in a s*xual way to make them feel good about themselves. THAT IS WHY THEY DRESS THAT WAY. I have no problem with a woman who wants to dress that way IN HER PERSONAL LIFE. I say, if you got it flaunt it, ON YOUR OWN TIME. Eighties and even nineties corporate was a different world than it is now... There was an expectation that women exude masculine confidence (as well as be chill with being sexualized). While all of these issues still exist, it's absolutely not as bad as it was. Erin was doing the power moves essential to prosper in the corporate environment she was apart of. This was the wolf of wall street, apologies mean you're weak era. Definitely wouldn't, and shouldn't, fly today... But we've also regressed a bit when it comes to acceptance of self expression in the work place. Major home owner's association vibes. Personally, I don't see why we care if someone has cleavage or wears short skirts, if they're adults- particularly if they don't interact with the clientele...Just because I'm uncomfortable in my body doesn't mean others need to feel the same about theirs. There's always someone prettier, thinner, smarter. Forcing people to dim their light, makes for just as toxic of a work environment as one that's laissez-faire about it. ...Yelling at coworkers who won't do their job (particularly just to spite you) is inappropriate, but understandable. Particularly since she was actively trying to save lives, and was getting bricked walled because of sour grapes.
But he’s damn lucky that he did. Everyone who refused to hire her or fired her because of the way she dressed and acted missed out on an amazing person who stopped at nothing to get justice. I think people would do well to remember that looks can be deceiving, it’s actions that matter.
I was ostracized at work due to jealousy and it hurt terribly. I love when she said, I guess I'm not the right kind. I guess I'm not the right kind either!
Thanks God I’m not the type of person that gets bothered by the other person just existing. How her outfit stood out more than her wits, passion for the clients, commitment to deliver the job, photographic memory, high intelligence, quick thinking and boldness to stand up against a giant company and their fancy lawyers, that is completely beyond me. That only makes sense in the mind of a very insecure. Erin is precisely the kind of people I like to be friends with. Kind hearted, strong, loyal and genius. I’m sorry you went through that. It is honestly their lost. At the end of the day, the moment tou leave the office. It is over, you get to enjoy the healthy relationships you built for yourself. But those envious people are stuck in their low self esteem head 24/7, carrying that vibe to all the areas of their lives and anywhere they go.

It was so bad at a job I worked at 10 years ago our manager called a meeting to basically tell everyone to stop talking shit about me. Not only was it an issue of them being insecure because I could be considered more attractive than them. But I had stepped down out of a management position due to health and personal reasons. But because I was previously management and had way more training and experience than them, I’d get pulled on a regular basis to do projects. Of course the way they seen it was that I was sleeping with everyone so I just got to do whatever I wanted. At the meeting that night our manager explained how I had more training because I was a manager, and I told everyone maybe if they were nicer to me, I could teach them how to do that stuff, so they could work on projects too. A couple of months later I left the job because of my health problems and personal reasons. My now husband worked there, we were dating, and flipped out on a bunch of women one night because I had been gone for months, and they were still talking shit about me. He’s like she doesn’t even work here anymore and you’re still running your mouths like WTF!
It's always about jealousy. It just so happened to _also_ be inappropriate attire this time. (Taking your word for it.) Although he was asking about them going out to lunch, not a conference room for a meeting. Name one office of women anywhere who wouldn't be jealous of her.
There is power in owning your own sexuality and beauty. Power that threatens the patriarchy and the sexism that runs deep in our programming - in women too.
Men are too jealous and petty a lot more. They might not show it as openly as women. Have seen men do lot of petty little shit including backbiting on women ,then pretend to be their good friend. In office many people are aweful without any reason. Gender is not differentiating factor.
True, but in this case, she was just as wrong as they were. She was rude and nasty to them, and she was dressed inappropriately for an office job. Also, I'm not gonna do anybody else's job for them either..
Every effective, results-oriented woman that I have ever worked with has hated working with other women because those women too often didn't stay focused on the goals and instead wasted time and attention on petty garbage in the office. One such woman was younger and much prettier than all of the other women in a 55-person IT Department, and they all couldn't stand her even though she dressed appropriately - and she was the only woman in that entire department with an actual computer science degree.

There's a difference between nice and trashy. She was definitely the latter. Until she became more of a public figure, she looked and acted cheap. She passed her kids off onto a neighbor, who she pretended to care about, so she could get wrapped up into saving other families. Erin helped many people, but at the expense of her own family and she ruined many personal relationships along the way. She didn't have her own priorities straight.
Remembering this part of the movie Erin has three very young children and a single parent. So, she wore what she had in her closet because she needed a job. It’s much more exceptable to allow a woman some time to put a wardrobe together and give her a chance and win than to walk in like you’ve been working in a law firm all your life with stolen credentials and hooking for a wardrobe then applying for a job dressed to the nines unless of course you actually did. The attorney believed in her seeing her work ethic over time she ran circles around all the others before her, who dressed to the nines everyday. What do you think?
Why is everyone moaning and groaning about the work attire? Like so? You’re calling her attire unprofessional but isn’t the other women’s BEHAVIOR unprofessional towards her? You don’t like the way someone is dressed so you ostracize them and are unwilling to help them out based on that? That type of behavior lacks integrity and reason. If they had been kind to her and welcoming, maybe she would have changed her tune and dressed in more traditional office clothing. People need to stop being so superficial and grow up.
Or maybe that woman has worked in that office for years trying to show her merit rather than her goodies and has been overlooked non stop by people who show their goodies. She’s not wrong. That’s not her job, and that was the others job. So now she wants to dress sexy and get others to do her work for her? Nah. As a woman, been there done that too many times. Insecure/jealous is different than being uncomfortable because of what someone is wearing
It still shouldn't make you treat a person differently as a result. Unless a person is wearing a nazi uniform or a shirt that says they diddle kiddies, there is no reason for a grown adult to let their own discomfort change how they behave towards someone different from them. It's what divides people with integrity from those without.
Oh no cleavage guess ill die

@@llyn5759I haven’t watched the movie, but from what I’ve gained from this video, the man and other colleagues are uncomfortable with the woman’s revealing attire in a professional setting. It is a justified reaction that does not berate the woman, but simply notifies that her apparel is inappropriate.
In the end, She was not asking to the woman to do her job, she just needed an answer, a justification about the files.
Could you explain further?

Huh ????
😢
It's based on a true story?
this story really happened. its not a question what we think about it, its about what happened for real.
She's not dressed 'nice'. It also seems like the business should think about a dress code policy.
Then they should provide clothing expense checks for the dress code requirements.
@@GenXBeeKind
Never heard of those.
What are they?

Women at the same pay scale don't usually help each other at work, which sucks. The woman had no idea about the blood/urine samples and never thought to question it so she deflected. Most people just want their paycheck, instead of looking for opportunities to move up.
Style is certainly personal and if you think you look nice, that’s what matters.

I’ve been gone over a year and am still insecure.

...Yelling at coworkers who won't do their job (particularly just to spite you) is inappropriate, but understandable. Particularly since she was actively trying to save lives, and was getting bricked walled because of sour grapes.
@thehalfmoonmirrorsvenus1234 Was it really like that, though? Or was it just in the movies?
Gurl boss tho
But he’s damn lucky that he did. Everyone who refused to hire her or fired her because of the way she dressed and acted missed out on an amazing person who stopped at nothing to get justice. I think people would do well to remember that looks can be deceiving, it’s actions that matter.
I was ostracized at work due to jealousy and it hurt terribly. I love when she said, I guess I'm not the right kind. I guess I'm not the right kind either!
Yeah most likely you were more effective and had a vibrant appearance so tjey envied you
Thanks God I’m not the type of person that gets bothered by the other person just existing.
Same here, it’s also my first job out of college so no where to go for at least a year 😢
Me neither, and I will proudly never be the "right kind". I will always be the wrongiest wrong kind I can possibly be. No shame in my "wrong kind" game. 😂😜🥳🤘
He was so kind how he said that to her though. He really was coming form the place of fatherly advice.
Fatherly? 😂
It's not about Jealousy. It's about proper business attire. And this was definitely inappropriate.

She is new to the corporate culture i guess. She is NOT dressed for work🤦♀️
The movie is based on a true story. Erin Brockovich did not fit the corporate mold, but she helped a lot of people.
I saw the movie, and I would not exactly call that law office "corporate."
Not dressed for that office's code, you mean.
This isn’t just a movie, this is reality. Women in the work place can be very jealous and petty.
@@gabriellehanks6850 EXACTLY
Fun fact : later, at meetings, she wear clothes appropriately
Every effective, results-oriented woman that I have ever worked with has hated working with other women because those women too often didn't stay focused on the goals and instead wasted time and attention on petty garbage in the office. One such woman was younger and much prettier than all of the other women in a 55-person IT Department, and they all couldn't stand her even though she dressed appropriately - and she was the only woman in that entire department with an actual computer science degree.
The film.erin brockavitch based on a true story
Even real Erin plays a small role in it
Inspired by a true story, anyway. If you look up what really happened, it didn't turn out all rosy for those involved.

To be fair women usually rebel because they are so oppressed by the society in visible and myriad invisible ways. The society stops the oppression, women don't feel the need to rebel.
Albert Finney. Wonderful British actor.
The best role played by Roberts: one of the greatest examples when a big heart and an external beauty come in one package ❤
You might want to rethink those ties:))
Actually, the writers and directors (and of course, the actors) did a cool job playing verbal ping-pong between these two; it is very well in line with the narrative and spices it up
You are forgetting the fact she was too poor to eat let alone buy an appropriate wardrobe. She was a beauty queen, she knows how to dress but these appropriate clothtes were an expense, she had no moneu

I disagree in one matter: that she knows how to dress. I find all of her outfits dreadful
Boss needs to man up and tell her what HE thinks instead of speaking through other women. “So and so said…” is he 12? Speak your mind.
I think most of you are missing the point. She is wearing what she feels comfortable in because it is her job performance that matters not her outfit. (And this worked, she is famous in real life) She is asserting herself because women have been given double standards and sexist criticism for decades based on their appearance. So much internalized misogyny in this thread. 💅
Exactly!! Literally most comments are something along the lines of “entitled woman moment” or “yea but her outfit is actually inappropriate and she should be grateful for the kind man correcting her in a gentle manner” like ????????????
I cannot believe that in 2024 there is still a vast majority of people who will stand up for corporate culture and focus their attention more on what clothes are “appropriate” or not instead of looking to a person’s competence and work ethic. And no, unless we’re talking about personal hygiene (cases of extreme BO or carelessness with pathogen exposure if you know what i mean🦠) the way you look and dress has nothing to do with how able, willing and determined you may or may not be to do your job! That is the whole point of this scene, way to miss it entirely. How are we as a society still not past these arbitrary, irrelevant and counterproductive preconceptions? (Rethorical question but what can you do :/ ).
Edit: I’m glad someone else sees it the way I do, sorry I got so heated in the second paragraph (also I am sorry if anything was not worded or spelled properly, English is not my first language)
Some of us see office dress styles in movies and then wear them in real life offices😂
Movie: Erin Brockovich. It's a true story I highly recommend this movie. She helped win like half a million dollars for these victims living next to this water plant and they were usually cronium (probably spelling that wrong) in their water which is allowed but they were using a type that WASNT allowed AND 6 times the lethal dose. These people living around thus plant were getting cancer and all kinds ofdiseases when they were healthy even their children under 10 were getting sick. Anyway Erin brockovich was just a regular single mom waitress that met this lawyer after getting in a car accident. He couldn't get her a settlement and she was about to lose everything so she begged him to give her some kind of job, so he let her do filing until she started reading this stuff and she went on a road trip and started questioning these people and busted this thing wide open. Highly HIGHLY RECOMMEND this movie.
It's the fact he repeatedly calls her and other women 'girls', infantilizing them and taking away their agency
Oh good lord.. don’t be so picky, I don’t think he meant it that way. He’s a good character in this movie. The scene is about catty women

@@angelsky6869 Men also call each other boys - I've heard old men saying they're going fishing with the boys. Women say they're going to brunch with the girls. I mean...she's NOT dressed appropriately for the work environment. This movie is older but we currently live in a time where people assume they can wear whatever they want wherever they want and that's just not true. Places have dressing codes and standards. You have to be respectful and adhere to those standards.
Your thought process sounds a bit archaic. It ultimately comes down to doing your job well no matter what you are wearing. (Try living in an area that is more progressive)
@@avril.227 No, it's not. Saying that there is a time and a place to wear certain things isn't archaic. That thinking may work at some jobs but it certainly won't fly at most high paying careers. It's unprofessional. Period.
She so beautiful
I got my first corporate job in the 80s. I was taken aside several times by supervisors. I asked what was wrong with what I wore? they used these terms...too colorful, vintage is not corporate friendly, baggy and too youthful.
I wore vintage blazers with tailored blouses, colorful below the knee peasant skirts in happy colors no skin showing, loose and feminine all the rage in that era.
Oh! And an original Mickey Mouse watch my grandmother gave me with a custom siver watch bracelet.
I was threatened Id lose my job and so I started taking photos of the breast baring, too tight bandaid dresses, mini skirts and sleeveless tank tops. At my HR evaluation I listened politely then handed them a folder with all the photos ( many of supervisors) AND my lawyer's business card .
In 2 months I was promoted to the supervisor of my dept and got a big raise. The supervisor who threatened me was fired thats the spot I FILLED!
She asked that lady a simple question. The devil always deflects and tries to shame you.
Exactly people in the comments defending the black woman are wrong. She was rude. Erin only asked a question. She didn’t ask for “help”.
It's not just her outfit that's inappropriate for the office, her attitude is also salty.
Even worse she's gonna claim ppl are mistreating her cuz someone refused to do her job for her.

If she started showing some decency and professionalism who is willing to work hard then come here girl let’s work together.
So side from establishing rules and social shaming, what other tools would you recommend to increase conformity?
@michaelsorensen7567 If your managers want everyone to dress a certain way they can just create proper written rules and communicatethem to you. Shame is not needed. Just saying "here's what is expected of you" is more than enough. Her boss didn't tell her dressing like she did was against the rules, he told her her coworkers personally don't like her because of the way she dresses.
