Luckily mine hasn't broke yet. Is it common? I hope not for what it cost me or it will be gone forever and back to the tried n true torches. Mines the Venom HP.

No, it is not common. However, there are things to be aware of when using it such as the proper extension cord, using a working outlet, not overheating the unit. These are just helpful hints.
