    I was diagnosed with type two diabetes in 2003, so I know only too well about stabbing!
    The TWSBI Go looks more to me like a vape pipe and I dislike it’s design to the extent that I would never purchase one. I have recently acquired the Swipe in Prussian Blue as you showed. The pear green is unpleasant aesthetically and the salmon, unspeakable. I have the Swipe with a nib which writes really nicely. I will stick with the supplied piston fill (a) because I have more Diamine bottled ink than they have in their warehouse and (b) I resent being tied into proprietary cartridges if I can avoid it. Thanks for the review, Michael … as enjoyable as ever.

      On the stabbing - ugh, what a pain!
      I agree entirely about the looks of the Go. However, I have to admit, it's a lovely pen to use - especially if you write a lot. Being able to refill it so quickly makes it a real star. However, no. It's not one I'd want to use full time purely because of the looks. However the Swype just doesn't quite hit the mark for me. It's much more elegant, but that clip irritates me no end. Still, fast to fill, large capacity, and excellent TWSBI nibs make it a pretty brilliant and effective pen, especially at that price.
      Many thanks for the comments, Lancs - really appreciated!

    I've been diabetic for 20 years and a couple of years ago, made a change from finger-pricking to using the Freestyle Libre system. Without exaggeration, I can say that it changed my life. I considered the "old" way to be too bothersome and only checked my blood sugar once or twice a day. Now I'm checking 10-12 times a day. My A1C plunged. They have an app and you can check your level with your phone. This is starting to sound like an advertisement so I'm going to stop. Planning on getting a Swipe, definitely NOT salmon.

      Diabetes - thanks for that. I've a couple of friends who use it (they're type 1 as well). Sadly I'm afraid it's a little outside my budget, but I'll be keeping an eye on things like that in the hope the price may drop a little! Thanks for the comments - it's appreciated.

    It’s a lovely pen but I don’t feel like I need it. I really like my GOs and they fulfil they function perfectly (ink testers) but for an everyday I rather a Pilot Prera, Kaweco Dia2, Pilot 74 and 823. :) Great review tho! I find the grip in the GO very comfortable, there’s something soft about the plastic in a good way.

      I don't think I've ever bought a pen because I felt I needed it. Fountain pens are difficult to place in the "need" aetegory. Though I don't use my GO pens as ink testers. They're much too slow. I use glass dip pens for testing ink, though after sixty years I'm still not sure why aI bother to test an ink. I'm going to put it in a pen regardless of what some test shows.
      I'm not really a fan of steel nibs, but I really like TWSBI pens. Pretty much all of them.
      While I love Pilot pens, I can't say I own very many Pilot steel nibs. Just some Metropolitans for art. Two of my daily writers are the Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age and the Scribo Feel. But the TWSBI Swipe is still worth buying, and is a great writer. Too good to use only as an ink tester.

    The Swipe is my go-to “first fountain pen” gateway gift. It can be used with cartridges (by far the most widespread use around here), but it makes it quite tempting to get into bottled ink, too.
    And its elegant design makes it presentable as a gift, as against the Go (which I think is more appropriate for an enthusiast like yourself as a cheap-but-intriguing novelty).

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  Рік тому +1

      I can't disagree - the Swipe is ideal as a gift. My only complaint is that damn silly clip, which really is unusable in my opinion!

    • @fab006
      @fab006 Рік тому

      @@writerlywitterings Agreed. I very gingerly tried it out on the one I was gifting last year, and stopped almost immediately so as not to destroy the gift.
      It’s really a clip-shaped roll stop, which is silly, indeed.
      Interestingly, some of the newer Pelikano designs (Pelikan school fountain pen) share that nonsensical design element. They look as if they have clips, but they hardly budge. I don’t “get” it, I must admit.

    Thanks for your review! I actually like the design of the Go better than the swipe and the fact that the clip lacks proper functionality annoys me. Also I don't like the look of the clip. I would much prefer the swipe to be without the clip, and just have something else to stop it rolling, like a little bump. It would then look more similar to the Go. I feel that would be cool for the styling of the brand to have a little more of a common design thread between the two pens. Also as you said, better colours, and also the swipe should have a clear one too. :)

    Their Vac700 vacuum pen caught my eye. I may have to get one because of the cool gadget factor. BTW I had high BP; my Dr wanted me on more pills for high triglycerides. I was having none of it. Pretty sure I was pre-diabetic. I was a heavy beer drinker too. Just like that I quit in November, went 99% keto diet. Tea with stevia for breakfast, berries and cashews for brunch, a salad with home made dressing every day for lunch; beet juice and an apple a couple hours after. And a simple sandwich later in the eve. Supplements too, but thats for another time. Lost 25 pounds and feel better than ever. BP good too. My main food groups for decades was meat, beer and bread. Good luck! UA-cam Dr Berg for some good info.

      I do love those Vac 700s. I nearly bought several in my time, but then got my first Visconti with the same vacuum fill, and it seemed an unnecessary extravagance (to my wife)!
      Thanks for the comments on diabetes, Chris. I've gone Keto-ish too, using the Michael Mosely 800 diet (but allowing myself up to 11,000 calories because of my exercise). Very easy to handle, but I do miss my fresh bread. I'm still going to have a few pints when I'm out Morris dancing, but I've cut the midweek beers ... sad face. I'm on porridge and berries for breakfast with a spoon of yoghurt and some nuts, salad or weak soup for lunch, then whatever we're having for supper in vastly reduced quantities with a large side salad. The blood sugars are way down (they were unmeasurable!) and my weight's dropped 25 pounds too - 200 down to 175. Thank God I don't have to give up tea!

    Darn, I was just about to order a TWSBI Swipe in Salmon, match it with Diamine Coral, and send it to you. Anyway, I do like the Swipe pens a lot. I always wondered why fountain pens didn't have higher capacity converters, at least in the larger pens, and now I know it apparently is not easy to design a pen that will work well with such a converter. Someone from TWSBI said this was actually a difficult task, and took a good while to get right. I'm hoping other fountain pen makers will follow suit.
    I've been a type 1 diabetic for twenty-seven years. Probably a lot longer, but never had a test for it. It's no fun, but I've found I can eat as much of anything as I want. Well, as long as my wife approves of it. She does let me cheat once a month, but she's a real stubborn overseer the rest of the time.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  2 роки тому

      Thanks, James.
      Convertors - I think one problem has always been to get a design that would work with international-size cartridges. So many pens were designed to use them, which meant they could have nice and slim pens - like the old Cross models. But I'm with you. For me the TWSBI Swipe model means a large enough reservoir to make the pen worthwhile. And it is much better looking than the Go!
      Thanks for the info on diabetes. I've no idea how long I've had this - probably about five years or so. My blood sugar was off the scale in January (but no symptoms whatsoever). I have found I've had to give up pasta and fresh bread (which is a real hardship) but now I've got the finger-stabbing machine I will at least be able to work out what is causing problems. It's good to hear that it doesn't necessarily mean I have to give up everything!
      Cheers!

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  2 роки тому +1

      I haven't got a 580, but did buy an Eco. For me the Eco was about ideal. I like the size, the appearance, and the way it works. I do think the 580 looks a little more "premium" - as it should for the difference in price! However I have heard some stories about 580s being a little prone to cracking. I have no idea whether that is more a sign of the pens being so popular, so even a 1% failure rate ends up being a large number, or whether they are less reliable. They do look lovely, don't they? My only real comment has to be that I know I can buy a Go, Swipe or Eco and swap nibs very easily. If you get an Eco and a Go for general playing, you can pull out the nibs and swap. If you buy a 580 and a replacement nib, the new nib will cost the same as the Go. I don't know if that's any help!
