It's a Russian name, but most Russian names are of Greek decent. I've looked it up and it says it means "Rock". I believe Petrova was also a Greek Goddess.

Instead of chaining two or three, have you ever single crocheted in that same last Loop and then changed one as you're turning chain? I find that works very nicely :-)

I am trying to make this cowl and you never tell us how many skiens you use. I have used 1 skien so far and only have my foundation row and 2 double crochet rows. If I am counting correctly there are about 10-11 rows total.

that's not a new way to make a double crochet, that's the standard way to do a double crochet unless the pattern indicates otherwise.
