It seems like they reduced the amount of free storage to 500MB since this video was uploaded. There is still the option to double to 1GB though. It's a shame, I have just over 1GB of files I need to store, so their service won't work for me unless I upgrade my plan lol

I would say proton drive is a good thing, until you factor in the upload speed. And the fact that the other secure privacy first paid solutions from their competitors, upload way faster than proton drive does. WTF

How do you get the share link to the people you want to share with? Do those people need to sign up with proton? Does proton email the share link like google drive or do you do that yourself?
Not many. You get a seamless connection between the two. Proton's premium plans automatically add Proton Drive, so you will get additional storage even if you don't use it.
Not yet, but there is already a closed beta for an desktop app. They have a roadmap that covers most features like folder sync, photo upload and collaboration

For a half a**ed calendar app that just does the bare minimum (can’t even delete invitations at this point). Forgive me if I’m not optimistic about seeing this soon, and in an usable state. Everything “is in beta” and “is coming soon” and “is on our roadmap” for a number of years.

Yes, Proton Drive is only for storage. Also, yes encryption is done in the background and on their servers.

You can share a folder, but only the admin can add files. For that, you will benefit from Dropbox and other storage providers.

Well, I don't think there is a way to test it. But it's all about trust. It's a swiss company so I believe that whatever they tell is true
