Tina, you are the inner voice inside my head! My worst is Amazon Prime. It’s so easy to shop, click, and get any item in two days. I need to control my impulse shopping. 🤑🤦🏻♀️
My husband and I talked it over and come July when my Prime is set to renew we are actually going to cancel prime! We are going to go back to the “old days” when we would fill a cart and wait until we had reached the $35 mark to get free shipping. Many a time, the process of waiting for the cart to fill was enough time to pass to realize we didn’t need an item in the first place, or find it somewhere else cheaper. I am learning that Target, Meijer, and Walmart are really trying to fight back against Amazon and Amazon does not always have the lowest price any more.
Tina, you can find tons of free planner supplies on Pinterest and print them for free. I print them out and glue them into my planners. You could print them on sticker paper but I don’t want to buy any. Stick glue works fine! I’m gonna say I’m in for your no spend challenge. I have really cut back on needless shopping recently. I haven’t been in Goodwill for a month. Last time I was there I only bought a new chair for my school desk. It was needed. I bought only practical and useful things for my family for Christmas this year. One gift for my adult children was a huge box for each packed with grocery, toiletries, and household items I know they used. My son was really excited about this one! Another challenge for myself in 2019 is to save every $5 bill I get this year. They will all go into a hidden location and none will be removed. I cleaned out my wallet this morning and stashed my first four five dollar bills. This is gonna be a fun challenge!
Long ago, I began buying EVERYTHING using my credit card just to see exactly how much money I was spending. I was shocked! I did this for a long time. I started looking at my statement each month and really thinking about each category of purchases I was making. Just like you did with your Etsy cart, over time, I have disciplined myself. Each month as I use my card I keep a mental bslance. I occasionally call for the balance or add up my receipts just to make sure I'm on track. I have a monthly limit I challenge myself to be under. I'm amazed at just how much money's worth of stickers, markers, crafting supplies, kitchen gadgets, the latest and greatest of frivolous items from years ago, etc I have in this house. Having purged over the oats years, it's crazy how much money's worth of things I have donated because I didn't have space for it. It's been a journey!
I will definitely join you for January because I have committed to a no buy year this year. There are some rules and exceptions but I am going to see if I can stop purchasing frivolous items that like you said add up to be hundreds of dollars. I’m super excited! Can’t wait to hear how yours goes. Hugs, Vicky
I thought about doing a year but then figured “baby steps”. If January goes well I will repeat in February, or maybe give myself a $50 budget to spend for the month of February and that’s it, etc.
Oh I do that ALL THE TIME!! Then I buy the item and three days later I don't a rats patootie about it! One trick I have been doing the last couple of months is I buy the item and make sure to put the receipt in this one drawer of mine and keep the packaging in my closet. Then, three days later when I realize I was a moron for buying it in the first place I can take it back. Before I used to pitch all receipts and would be stuck with it.
OK, I am in too, Tina. I actually just stopped living like this recently. My hubby and I saved and scimped for 15 years until we retired. But I am sure I can do this pretty easily.....plus going out to eat like we have, is tough on my keto diet. So....no spend January it is! Thanks for the challenge!!!
I’m going to do my best to join in. The only exception I make is eating out once a week. After teaching all week, I need that break. We don’t do vacations or anything like that during the year, so eating out is my one pleasure. Can’t wait to hear how it’s going for you!
There is nothing wrong with treating yourself to one meal out a week. I post these videos to inspire and motivate. I love that people will take my ideas and modify them to fit their own lives!
I’m going to join you with a caveat... my daughter’s birthday is on the 26th and I’ll have to spend money for that but other than that I’m going to challenge myself to stick to a strict budget especially with groceries. For a family of 5 I spend $1000 a month! One of my goals this new year is to lower that bill. Wish me luck!
I’m definitely in! I’m also planning on using as much out of the pantry, fridge and freezer to help cut down on the grocery bill. Our meals may look a little interesting but I’m going to focus on seeing that low credit card bill as a reward.
Yay Tina :) I'm definitely in. I'm currently reading a Tony Robbins' book and feeling really inspired to get my life together. I also need to use up my makeup and bodywash that I have stored at home. I just tossed an expired foundation that I've used maybe a couple times and than it's been sitting on my shelf for two years and now it's expired. How stupid is that? I'm really excited to join your challenge.
Can I just say, whenever you upload a video I look so forward to it because your “lessons” always ground me. Good luck on your new journey and I’m so excited to see what happens.
I’m all in!! Great challenge to kick off the new year. I’ll be looking forward to seeing a different balance at the end of January. Happy New Year to you and your family. Thank you for another awesome video.
Great plan, since the beginning of December I've been planning "Just January" for me it is "just" the essentials. I do have quite a few birthdays coming up this month but I planned ahead with that. So looking forward to having more money than normal iny account come 1st Feb! Good luck!
I'm going to join you, but I have my daughter's birthday and my mom's. I'm working on getting debt free this year. Getting my bills paid and not worrying about these credit cards.
Obviously you have to buy for your loved ones, but I might suggest buying them "experiences" instead of stuff, unless they really need a certain item. Get mom a restaurant gift card and maybe your daughter a card to her favorite hair salon for example. That is definitely one of the goals my hubby and I have for this year.
I feel ya! This challenge is NOT going to be easy for me, but I have to start somewhere. What is the point of decluttering if I am just going to fill it all up again!
Tina Bietler I’m going to try for sure. Have my gratitude book ready as well! I went and cleaned out my Instagram followings. Just too many and not necessary. You are one of my few keepers. Happy New Year precious one!!
I’m pretty sure families of four don’t need Costco Maybe once a month for pantry items and others for a month Andrea Mills is a homeschool mom of 9 kids and her weekly grocery bill is about $60 and her monthly at Walmart is in its $900 But she’s not buying only food at Walmart, she’s buying deodorant paper towel toilet-paper... And twice a year ( fall and spring) she also buys clothes that is also minimal because Ehh check her out though

Tina Bietler that’s a good plan. I may fail miserably but I’m going to try. January will be the trial run...😊
Hey tina, challenge accepted! I'm excited with how mine would turn up too!
I'm in Tina! Keep the awesome vlogs coming. 👍 ♥️😀
I'm in. It's ridiculous how many ways I can talk myself into buying something that I don't need.

Genius idea! I'm in!!!
Good luck, keep us posted on how you do! I’m in too!
I’m with you!

You can do it! I find that as long as I am organized I can stick to my budget. It’s when I go shopping without a plan that it all falls apart.
Fab idea, I'm in.
I have my January budget set up and I'm ready for no spend January! I'm excited about this as well!
Me and my husband are terrible for eating out and trips to costa. We are going to give this a try 👍 x

Ok Tina...I’m in. I may need some support when I pass Walmart though! 😂

Doing this!
I am in! I’ve been spending so much lately. I need to save some money this month.
This is a great challenge! Thank you for sharing!
I'm I Tina!😄
I’m with you, also going to include no eating out. It’s not good for you anyway but wow is it expensive.
January will definitely be a no spend month for me as my school district plans a strike for January 10th.

@@tinabietler I love those ideas! Maybe the other way around, though. :)
I love the idea however it will be so hard for me! At the same time I'm fed up with the junk I've collected so far at my house.
I feel ya! This challenge is NOT going to be easy for me, but I have to start somewhere. What is the point of decluttering if I am just going to fill it all up again!

God, I always see stuff that would be great for my classroom and there goes my non-spending out the window 😂
