  • I’m super excited to present what for me, has always been the representative pliosaur - Kronosaurus. This brings back memories, but also, updates them with the scientific state-of-the-art knowledge which PNSO has consistently striven to apply.
    This pliosaur makes an excellent complement to the PNSO Mosasaurus, and together with the Dakosaurus, and the Atopodentatus, starts to flesh out PNSO’s offerings of sea reptiles. Now, the only thing missing is a plesiosauroid!

    The latest studies show that pliosaurs' flippers were used for flying through the water like penguins. The eddy from the front flipper increased the efficiency of the back flipper just as the first goose flying in a V-formation eased the passage of the goose next in line.

      You're most welcome! 😁 I'm delighted you like them, as my interest has never been to do a pure show and tell, but to share some more background to create more interest and appreciation for these models. That of course is quite polarizing, since many wish I would just get to the money 😁 but I'm glad they resonate with you!

    Kronosaurus was a marine animal, the skin should've been smooth for the purpose of hydrodynamics. So, PNSO has done it correctly.

    Nice figure and great review ! I really wonder when PNSO will start venturing into Raptor lines. The trend shows they are making large and medium sized theropods mostly. I want to see the emaculate detailing of these figures resonate on their little raptors as the need to be made into 1:35 scale to continue with the other dinosaur lines.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  3 роки тому +1

      I think PNSO has been cautious about getting straight into the most iconic dinosaurs, which is good in the sense that it gives them time to really hone their technique so that when they do deliver, they do so with a bang. I think with the raptors however, they might go with a bigger scale as it's going to be quite challenging to deliver all those feathers at such a small scale and do it justice. For example, their latest Microraptor is much bigger than 1:35 scale.
      You might also know that the upcoming Mamenchisaurus is 1:45 scale, so it seems like they will not be keeping strictly to 1:35 for all offerings. Which is a bit of a pity. I would like to see in scale small, medium and large dinosaurs!

    • @sayantikadar253
      @sayantikadar253 3 роки тому

      @@DinosDragons I absolutely agree with you. I wanted PNSO to give out a line with all being 1:35 scale, but it cannot be done. I too heard the Mamenchisaurus is 1:45 as it won't be feasible. I'll wait to see how they'll make the raptors. I too feel the raptors will be at a scale larger than 1/35 but, all the raptors will nearly be of scale to each other like these 1/35 models are. I appreciate your indepth research about every dinosaur video.

    Wow I’m happy to see that you know your stuff.
    I wonder what you think of the cryptid: “gambo creature” more specifically, the account left by the British man in Africa who claims to have seen the animal.
    He claims when he saw the monster in 1983 that the tail was, “not quite triangular and cross sectioned” meaning it possesses a right angle 📐 . Witnesses to the account believe that he is describing a metriorhynchid like dakosaurus found in Germany 🇩🇪 or the plesiosuchus another prehistoric marine reptile.
    What’s particularly interesting in this case is that we had no idea that prehistoric marine reptiles even possessed a tail fluke (the triangular end of their tail) until after the movie “Jurassic world” came out a little over a decade ago. Yet he mentioned this on the animal in 1983.
    Do you think it’s possible that he really saw this creature?
    Other pieces of evidence that he accounts are the smooth skin which we know that these creatures had and that it had 80 teeth, upon careful examination of a skull containing a mandible I found these animals to have between 76-80 teeth of course I had to refer to an image taken off google that is to say, several images of metriorhynchids all of which belonged to plesiosuchus and possessing about as many teeth as I have afore mentioned.
    Nevertheless I am interested in your opinion.

      Thanks for dropping in! Unfortunately I don't know anything about the Gambo creature, other than what is generally known. It is a little disappointing that PNSO went with the lower size end scale wise but it’s still not terrible.
    Perhaps one could justify the hefty lateral jaw size to muscular exuberance.🙂
    The overall impression I’m left with is that this is a decent effort but only a 3 base hit, not quite out of the park.
    Still has a lot of pluses going for it.
    I’ll be picking one up.
    Now, what have you heard about the Nanmu rearing up Brachiosaurus....?

      @DinosDragons  3 роки тому

      "Muscular exuberance"... I love that! I'll be looking for an opportunity to use it lol 🤣
      As for the rearing up Brachiosaurus... WELL! I mentioned in my W-Dragon Indoraptor I may actually end up buying one or two iconic JPesque dinosaurs just to commemorate the series, and this rearing Brachiosaurus sure is on a very very short list of candidates! 😋

    • @thomasmonroe7947
      @thomasmonroe7947 3 роки тому

      Yes.
      The term “iconic” can be overused but, when it comes to the original JP and the introduction of the Brachiosaurus, as well as, the Jurassic World outro of the lone Brachiosaurus on the piers end, wailing and rearing up as a book end to its introduction....well, nothing’s more iconic than those two moments within the franchise.
      I’m not a huge fan of many of the JP design choices but I will be buying any rearing up Brachio.
      🙂

      In fairness the tail is speculative and you have supporters going both ways for the fluke, and a third way if you count no fluke! It is smaller than I'd hoped, and in a way if you don't like something, it's a bit of a blessing. That's money you can save for another model! 😁

    i have to say im a little disappointed. i love the figure because of how realistic it is, but compared to PNSO's other offerings, its a little lacking. i know that the grey and white countershading is realistic, but i would have liked to have seen a little bit of design in the main body aside from just grey. hell, even just some slightly discoloured stripes would have been nice. as far as the skin itself goes, it does seem boring. from what i saw, it just looks like concrete. some variation wouldnt go unappreciated. not like osteoderms as this animal didnt have them, but maybe scars or something. i do absolutely adore the sculpt. its one of the best marine reptile sculpts ive seen in my opinion. i just wish there was a little bit more to it. still gonna buy it though. great review as always!

      Cyanide, those are some astute comments! 👍 And that's exactly right.
      While the skin colouration and patterning might be up for grabs, with some favouring a more simple realistic design, there can be no argument that some detailing or texturing. could have lent much interest to the model.
      Scars as you say are one way, another I can think of is barnacles which we saw on the PNSO Basilosaurus. They did add a bit of fraying along the margins of the flippers, but I think PNSO could have thought of more, like they have in many offerings in the past. A larger size, besides making me a lot happier, would also have afforded a bigger canvas for that.

    Oh, wow, that's just such a disappointment! After having bought both the PNSO Ophthalmosaurus and Mosasaurus I was really hoping for a plesiosaurus and pliosaurus. But if I look at this model, it's very clear they did not pay as much attention to detail and scientific accuracy to this model as they did to the former - which you could just see the surface textures (that of the mosasaurus correctly being serpentine, and that of the ichthyosaur just showing the wear of the smooth skin of an older individual), the stand, and proper implementation of speculative aspects of the animals' anatomy. Apart from the obvious stand and rather ugly way the mouth opens, I really miss the naturally blended colours, restriction of white to the bottom, a vertically oriented, somewhat larger, tail fluke (right now it looks like a bit of an apologetic experiment, not sure of what people will think of it, a compromise), and some skin texture to illustrate territorial combat (the generally smooth nature of the skin, though, is correct, as is the case for most marine animals). Also, I find that the model has been made to look rather passive with it's flippers in the position they're in, and would've loved a more active pliosaur, indeed with a stiff tail.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  3 роки тому

      I guess that's the tricky part about design and manufacture, there are bound to be issues people have with it, or some feature that would have been nice to have but were missed out. I like the barnacles on their Basilosaurus for example, and think that more could have been done here. Regarding the tail fluke however, it's still up for speculation about how it was oriented, or indeed if it even had it.
      As for the stand, I forgot to mention, that given this needed two, I would have even settled for the very basic ugly gray stand the Mosasaurus came with, because having two separate ones makes it really fiddly to move around, while two fixed to one base is a lot easier to manoeuvre around.

    • @alexandermelchers1497
      @alexandermelchers1497 3 роки тому

      @@DinosDragons True, it's difficult to make everyone happy, especially not if simultaneously having to navigate inconclusive and still heavily debated aspect of a creature's anatomy. But after what for me were big successes with the mosasaur and ichthyosaur models - for which I haven't found any good models amongst the other brands, except for may be the old Invicta models of the British NHM-museum - I was hoping for a similarly qualitative model for the remaining marine reptiles. For, I actually like the materials and stand that the mosasaur and ichthyosaur came shipped with and was actually also a bit disappointed when I saw the material and finish the Dakosaurus-model has - although at the time I put that off to the smaller size of the model. And I agree that they should've just included a stand, even if just the old traditional one. I mean, needing two supports is such a particular requirement...
      As to the tail-fluke: while I realise this is still up for debate, I'm in support for the vertical one seeing as that, at least to me, makes much more sense in terms of the animal's mobility. I think there's little doubt that propulsion would have come from the four flippers, even if not entirely clear in what combination, which negates the need for tail propulsion as in carangiform or thunniform swimmers. As such, the tail could've reduced in size, the more since, from plesiosaurs, it doesn't appear that the tail was needed for balance. From that perspective, it's also quite noteworthy that pliosaurs appear to have had longer tails relative to the size of their body than did plesiosaurs, even though the latter's longer necks would seem to require longer tails if these would indeed have been used to balance the body out. Why, then, did the tail remain? My supposition is that if the flippers were highly efficient propulsion mechanisms, plesiosaurs would've needed some kind of rudder to increase their manoeuvrability - not in the vertical plane, as much as in the horizontal one. And for that you'd need to have a vertical tail fluke... But that's just my thoughts on the matter and why I think their current manatee derivate is somewhat less satisfactory...
