It's not his fault. It's the creative team that worked on this show was probably a big Adam Pally fan. Adam Pally's character was written in a way that overshadowed Knuckles for over half the show. I believe the writers had no idea what to do with knuckles or what knuckles was about and were only told "This is knuckles back story. put it in the show" and Knuckles' character hardly develops.
