Even when using cellular connection you can be tracked. I worked for a major communications corporation and I installed fiber optic and electrical circuits that connected cell towers to long haul networks and worked on and maintained the equipment in the main communications hubs. Even if you leave your phone at home, voice recognition software will detect you in the presence of anyone else holding a cellphone. We all let them build the grid and 99% are too blind to realize the threat that these devices pose to all of us

I no longer take my phone with me when I go anywhere. It's a really nice feeling when you're not connected and can't be immediately reached.
They can still track you live, what's the point of that, you have to go home sometime.

Do not trust phones, smart devices like tv's, Alexa/Siri type things, watches, refrigerators, thermostats, security systems, vehicles, doorbells, etc; We are constantly being listened to.
This has been a running joke at my workplace. It's enough to just talk about a specific topic or videos I've been seeing and voilà, it pops up on my colleagues' YT recommendations. I've really no idea how this works or whether it's a repeated coincidence, or whether I'm going crazy slightly, but we observed it often and now just joke about it.

I wondered out loud what else anchovies are used for, and a bit later I checked YT and had a recommended recipe for a pasta sauce with anchovies. Could not have been coincidence, and is only one of dozens of examples. To think that this is not happening, or that it could not be used against a person by "thought police" is naive and foolish.

Real interaction makes better communication and those who cannot communicate with differing ideas can walk away into the safety of their own bubbles. Too easy access to social media has made people fall into illusions in their preferred group think bubbles and behave in the nastiest ways.
Because of this unfortunately one cannot always take the high road on the internet. One single character assassinating word would "on the high road" often take 2000 words to correct - and nobody will even read it. So the "debate" becomes reduced to superficial and emotional word jabbing.

I will not speak to any one in the street,the shop ,bus or when visiting some ones home.When I,m talking to one person I,m not going to accept a call from another.That only leaves my home line. Even then if I,m in conversation with a guest I often do not answer that. I do 1479 and ring them later. We are controlled by IT.

Hi Rob, I love what you are doing! I have always been aware of the spying and always looked for ways to go around it. I started using Ubuntu some 25 years ago and I am now also using Ubuntu VPN. I have paid encrypted email by Proton-mail and in addition I also use the Tor browser and have been using a Nexus 5 with Ubuntu Touch for years now. I hope that I am not easy to track as most of the time I leave my phone at home as I am aware that I can still be tracked via my SIM by the phone Antennas.

The easiest way to avoid these issues......leave your dang phone at home! The only phone i had growing up was attached to the wall! I have a cell phone yes, but I leave it at home a lot. Life is so much quieter (and stress free) when people can't bother you 24/7.
My solution is simple and completely effective against tracking and viruses , remove every tower , No Tower no Power , everything they are planning is dependant on the TOWERS !!

Our solutions are incredibly simple.
Even switching off only turns off the screen and these things keep on running. So it makes no difference.
That's why they turned from using removable batteries, to inbuilt batteries.
The best solution is to use a Symbian phone and not to use a smart phone.
Just heard on a unrelated video that there are 2 cooling stations at the base of cell towers. If the wiring or anything goes wrong with just one it can cause the entire tower to eventually burst in flames.
This is exactly why I am unplugging from smart phones, and other mobile devices. Even my desktop is now limited..

I just bought my PinePhone. Anxiously awaiting. In the meantime I took my old LG G4 and reflashed it to LineageOS 16 (only supported). Right now it's vanilla. working through securely bringing it up. You don't realize how tied in you are until you go to do something and it's not really there (swype).

It can be a good thing sometimes. My husband was car jacked recently. His phone was still in the car when the bad guys drove off with it. Hubby gave permission for the police to ping it to find the car. It was found within an hour. Thankful for that but I do understand Google knowing where you are is kind of creepy. I used to get an email telling where we had been. I was shocked they knew everywhere we had stop. I thought it was from Google Maps but we don't use Google maps for every place we go.

This is why I sometimes think about changing back to android at-least they allow you more freedom and isn’t overly hyped. They allow you to turn off WiFi scanning. Anything that is overly hyped is bound to have people tracking it.
Just know that your phone doesn’t define you, unlike the world, God loves you the way you are and just wants to see you be your best you to his glory. I use a faraday bag when not using my phone. Stops tracking the device instantly. Get the. At Amazon while you still can.
I've experienced hackers parking near me to hack my phone. As soon as I turn off, they pull away. In research, iv found while in Missouri that there are schools that teach phone hacking. These hackers are of all ages practicing their skills. It got where I knew them instantly. I turn off, they quickly leave.

There's nothing in my life that's worth tracking. Except at night, when I go out to tip over full trash cans and knock over mail boxes. That's when I leave the phone at home.

NewPipe is a UA-cam alternative app that can be downloaded from F-droid. Rob mentioned this in his 'F-Droid - A Safer App Store for Android?' video. Also, invidio.us is a secure front-end YT alternative that you can access in browsers. Several privacy-respecting browser extensions can show you how much tracking is present in UA-cam site.

If you have"nt become addicted yet just get rid of your so called "smartphone" with all those silly apps and get a basic phone that you can use to call and sent text messages which is the main purpose of a phone;all that other stuff including gaming isn"t necessary at all

I've just got rid of my smartphone for an old Nokia 2G dumbphone and I leave it at home most of the time, haven't missed the smartphone, my pc at home is used for the internet. I lived my younger years without a phone and did fine, it feels great. Technology has gone to far imo, we marvelled back pre millennium at this future tech but it has taken over our lives for the worse.
I keep turning location permissions off and find it on again and again. I'm really uncomfortable with this setting. Why does anyone need my location, except for me& who i choose to tell?
Mary Jane - Thats probably one of the apps in your phone. Google and Apple don’t care if you give them permission or not. They know where you are even if you shut your phone off.
How? When you turn your phone off, you only shut down the operating interface that you see. Google keeps the plug in port of your phone powered up (even when your phone is off). This keeps your GPS powered on and transmits location information (at a minimum) at all times.
Apple takes a similar approach. However, I am not sure what component on an Apple phone is used to accomplish the same task.
Just know, you are being tracked at all times - and possibly more - whether you’re phone is on or off.
