Christina is taking good care of her vocal cord nodule. She has been doing so many concerts and Las Vagas shows lately. She is wise not to hit those high notes every time she sings a song. She knows what she is doing! What's why she still sounds so amazing! I appreciate and love the sounds that come out of her mouth, high notes, or not!
As a long time Xtina fan, she always changes the studio version of her songs ever since her Stripped era. This is nothing new. She does what she wants and hits the notes when she wants. It's not that she's dodging the notes, she's actually being intelligent and listening to her vocal chords. Nothing wrong about that. Sometimes she sings high notes that aren't in the studio version as well. If you're a true Xtina fan, you would never expect her to hit the exact notes from her studio albums. Other artists are more plain and structured like Celine, Adele etc but that's not Xtina's style. One thing about Xtina is that she HATES singing the same version of her songs over and over again.
This why its a 25 year anniversary. People grow older and their voices change and mature. Its not as simple as you may think, her voice is much thicker and richer now than it was before but her range will naturally change. Get over it.
My take is that she is doing it on purpose but for good reason. As she's gotten older, her upper register has declined slightly which happens to all singers and rather than try to overdo it and risk decreasing quality, she has chosen to pick the best moments where she can consistently deliver. I prefer this as I would much rather that she dodges a few notes than gives us overly strained, inconsistent performances.
That's all right! having to see a performance of "What a girl wants" sitting on a couch belting up almost all notes, could've not been done, as the song is not for that, and still, i found that to be the best one out of the show, while, "Obvious" being a song she has never performed live and only requires one difficult note in the end; it's smarter to preserve as much as possible in songs like "What a girl wants" and and give the best to "Obvious" out of simple respect for the songwriter being invited to the show, also for that being the "purpose" of the show. The strategy is bad... and that is something I've never seen in her performances, she's always had really good strategies. Thanks for your comment and for watching, you have an excellent POV.

She sang “I turn to you “ in a lower key this time and I respect that choice. The lower key is pretty..
