Jesus, this guy can play. I've been looping professionally since the late 90s, but this guy was layering stuff like I've never imagined! Great job, man!
Looping changed my musical life on the Bass Guitar. TC Electronic's Ditto was my very first ever experience with a Looper and I don't think I need to try another one.
Andy's song choices for these demos are ALWAYS spot-on and excellent examples of the pedal actually doing it's job properly. impossible germany!? kudos andy!
Andy proves once again why he does some of the demos. Simple but effective. I liked how he stopped after recording each part, instead of continuing to play. You were actually able to hear the looped part. A small thing, but a nice touch. I wasn't sure if I was interested in purchasing a looper, but now I pretty sure I will. Thanks.
I saw this and bought the looper about 5 years ago. I watched a lot of videos about looping and this pedal. I have enjoyed the ditto but always struggle a bit trying to tap just at the right time. Today I watched it again and saw the "arm at any time" part. Not sure how I missed that, but doing it that way made it much easier..lol. And Andy is just a fricken awesome guitar player and could sell a TV to a blind man with his demos. I hope he makes a great living doing it. He has long since left this channel and Reverb. They were more than lucky to have him. Andy is the man..
It’s rare to find a channel that offers short and concise demos. It’s even rarer to find a channel that does so while playing amazing music. You’ve earned a subscription from me my friends. Great work!
I really appreciate it, this has been a format I’ve stuck to for years. No new demos with come from this PGS chan but I’m still at it on AndyDemos. Thanks, Andy
Tore taught us a great trick for not having to hear the loop before it clears. At the finish of your performance, instead of double tapping, hold the second tap to clear the loop immediately. Then you are ready to record a fresh one.
I picked one of these up about 2 years ago and my guitar playing has gotten much better. The reason? When my friends are not around to jam with, I still have somebody to play with... Me! Though I'm not good at playing, it still helps a lot with timing, soloing practice and creativity. Worth the money (~$100).
One problem I had with the Boss RC series is that the boss-style switches were bad for looping as I felt I could be more on-beat with a 'tap' than a 'press'. The Ditto is so simple and easy and has my preferred switch type. The Boss range also has loads of features I never used - 90% of the time I was just looping some chords live and playing over them. Sure for people into really complex looping, multiple parts punching in and out, people who want to bring in pre-prepped loops from a DAW, etc. the big high-end loopers are what you need but I think a huge number of players only want Ditto-like functionality.
I'm ordering this pedal today. I went into my local guitar shop to grab one, which they didn't have and was talked into a much more expensive, way more (needlessly) complicated Boss. They also sold me the wrong adaptor for it. I returned it today and I'm never going back to Long & McQuade. They're too busy talking about their next gig to give proper customer service and I'm now left with one choice. Continue enjoying Andy's videos and shopping at PGS. You just earned yourself a new customer!
You know, considering that the Boomerang III is almost $500 and 20x more complicated to use, and considering that all the Boss units have timing issues and tons of useless bells and whistles overcomplicating things, I'd say this thing should blow the competition away.
this is a great tool for jamming by yourself in your room, or for a guitarist that goes out by themselves for open mic nights or solo gigs. i play guitar and sing, with a looper i can create layers or just record the chord progression so that i can break out a solo or two. don't have to rely on other people (most of my buddies study in other cities), and can gig whenever it suits me.
I find myself re-watching this video solely because I love the way he plays High & Dry by Radiohead in the opening, This makes me want this pedal so bad, not only because looping pedals are so amazing and this one is perfect and simple, but because I wanna play High & Dry just like that. Soon I'll have one! My gear isn't the best and I need to rebuy a lot of stuff. All I have right now is an Epiphone AJ220ce (which I truly adore) and a Fender Frontman 212r sadly. I'll get a MIM Strat which I will eventually get different pickups for and I also plan on getting a Fender Princeton Reverb. The first pedal I get will be a Strymon El Capistan, I'm a delay head and that pedal looks like my holy grail. Then I'll get the Ditto looper. Then I'll get the Strymon Blue Sky. Here's my wishlist for pedals that I will eventually own: Proco Rat Distortion/fuzz (hopefully the older vintage one) MXR dyna comp EQ pedal Tuning pedal Volume pedal Boss DS-1 And many more!!! Seriously though, the opening cover is beautiful. I cannot wait until I have the technology to do this!
Nice. I plan to get a bigger amp and a pedalboard. At the moment I have a Squier Strat which is an ok guitar and a really noisy Frontman 15. I hope to get an Epiphone SG and a Laney Ironheart 80 watt cabinet
Another cool feature not mention on Andy's video is that if you have a loop saved it remains in the pedals memory even if you unplug it at the mains so you can record a loop at home before a gig and have it saved before you play Handy for long loop times.
TC Electronics pedals are outstanding! I use them for both bass and guitar, and the Tone Print feature that some of them have is off the hook. One of the best investments any guitar or bass player (aside from lots of practice) can make.
Was in a music store today. I said "please, I need a looper pedal. Never had one, just give me something simple". A guy put this little funny thing on a counter. Alright, deal I said. I came home. Get it into my chain and played around for about 5 minutes. Instantly I started feeling horrible regret. Regret for all those years I've been playing and never even considered getting a looper pedal. This might just be my new favorite thing ever now :D Right, not time to waste. Gotta go, catch up with years of fun I've missed out on.
When I first noticed that there is only one switch to control all the functions I immediately thought this pedal would be completely impractical. However, as usual, Andy somehow managed to pull it off!!!
Haven't seen your videos in awhile, Andy. You're a great player. You always get the best tone grin whatever instrument you're playing. Thanks for the terrific Ditto Looper demo.
That's exactly what I wanted to hear. In other demo's, I've seen people start it up again to delete, which would be weird in a musical setting. Thanks.
It is a great pedal. I have owned the Ditto, the Ditto Stereo, and now I have had the Ditto + for a few month. I used it a lot and do enjoy it very much. I have downloaded from UA-cam or Spotify and organised my tracks by style (rock, blues, jazz, bossa...) and kept space for my own working tracks. I am on Mac and things cannot be more easy as I see the folders in the finder, so delte, add, modify is easy. One thing I miss and I would have loved is the possibility to slow down or speed up the music. That would have been a great feature for people who consider the DItto + as a traning tool. Maybe a future microcode update (hey TC can you do it ?). I do recommend this pedal to all my guitar friends.
FANTASTIC video for a great pedal that looks easy to use and full of useful features at a great price. Well done, fellas! I'm getting one of these ASAP.
if you play through the other pedals at the end of your chain and play with them selected for playing each particular piece it will work fine just keep in mind you have to either stop the looping and or tap other pedals on if you get different sounds to a song the only best way to change the sound tone is with a strat knob settings like andies using here ( i play strats too the most diverse tone) and prefer epiphone or gibson electric accoustics
Everything is so much better when you don't just shred. Play melodies, it has more meaning to it guys. Why I love Steve Vai, such good melodies but he shreds MUSICALLY too. Nice playing. Really good feel.
Just bought one, fantastic, beats the 13 second loop on the delay pedal I had. Don't intend it for live use but for practise it will be great. Wish I had one many years ago. A few hours of playing with it and I realise just how much this is going to improve my playing!
Ziltoid TheOmniscient don't feel like shit, I bought the Line 6 JM4 Looper and that thing was a boat anchor of garbage features. Bought the Ditto and use it all the time…bad ass little pedal with absolutely no tonal penalty.
+Ziltoid TheOmniscient I have loads of the popular loopers over the years. Ended up using an Akai Headrush for the most part, which had pretty rough sound quality, was huge for no reason, and really more of a delay pedal but was simple to use. The Ditto understands that probably 90% of guitarists just want simple, easy live looping.
The Boss RC 3 Looper is waaaay better than the Ditto Looper ive Both and the Ditto only holds 5 minutes of recordings no backing(Storage )tracks? It hasnt got a Tempo "Cue"so your always slightly out of time with the completed Loop (Starting)The sound quality is also waay better on the Boss which holds 3 hours of recorded stuff The Ditto is actually fairly expensive for what it is
also the looping function on the flashback/alter ego causes a very noticeable drop in volume that i find very annoying. i bought the alter ego for delay and looping, but because of the volume problem as well as the inability to undo individual layers, i will probably buy this pedal for looping and designate my alter ego to just delay
The song is "High and Dry" by Radiohead off of their album "The Bends." You should be able to find tabs online or watch and listen to Andy to figure it out.
Again, yes it is cool, and i'm looking forward to see it in the nearest store, but it will be very nice if you (PGS) or TC Electronics show us this pedal not only with single guitar, but with live band, or at least 2-3 musicians playing simultainiusly.
There is no use for the USB port as yet. There may be plans to have artists record downloadable loops similar to the toneprints they do but it's all speculation at the moment. Hope this helps.
I always place my loop and delay pedals at the very end before the amp. Furthermore, this one is going after my delays. I typically have my Line 6 Delay DL4 as the last pedal, but with this one, I am going to have it right after the Deluxe Memory Boy and the Earthquaker Dispatch Master.
does it have like a way to keep track of the tempo of what you're playing ? because like if you're off time by like a little bit, won't it loop that little bit of "off time" and make you completely off metronome?
I have a question. Imagine I play a song live, use the ditto to loop a riff so I can solo over it a while, stop the loop, finish the song off. The crowd goes wild, girls throw their underwear at me, it's crazy.... so I'm talking about the next song I will play and while doing that I want to clear the memory so I can use the pedal in the next song. How do I do this discreetly whilst talking, without the pedal triggering the loop again and ruining my gig and me getting fired and ruining my life?
Came for a Ditto Looper review, re-watched for the incredible musicianship this guy shows.
Andy is well known on UA-cam for his great playing...he's been doing it for a decade+ now
I want to meet Andy just to tell him I'm not a fan, LOL!!!!!

@shredx81 that's why you place the looper last. If you place it before other effects, it's forced to play the loop through them.
