yes, just like when i went to adopt a dog, the only ones available were a 16 yr old mutt with health problems, and another 8 year old dog with behavioral problems. Why purchase a puppy that you can train your own way and have the breed that fits your lifestyle, when you can adopt a dog on hospice care...
I adopted my last 2 dogs from rescues after I realized that litter mates of our earlier dogs purchased from breeders may not have been so fortunate. Our current rescue has 1 eye and 3 legs. She's the most playful dog we've ever had.
Don't only adopt puppies older dogs also need adopting they live for years in a adoption center because no one is buying them while the little ones and younger ones get adopted more to a loving family.still doesn't fix the fact they will or will not find a home.
Yup. Last time I got a cat from the shelter they were surprised when I asked them for whatever they considered their least adoptable cat. The director was just keeping her in his office as he assumed that she would be staying with him. He was sad/glad when I took her away.
adopt or *shop responsibly.* ethical and responsible breeders do not let their pups end up in shelters and do a lot to help with breed conservation and health, spay and neuter, and responsible pet ownership.
Well thank God. The puppies in pet stores come from puppy mills, and they lead terrible lives trapped in tiny cages, given worming medicine daily, and no love to be had unless a customer asks to hold one. Their parents have it even worse at the mill. It's a disgusting business. If you want a dog, go to your local shelter - so many cuties waiting desperately to be taken home and loved! 😭💕
Adoption fees help cover some of the basics for shelter animals, depending on the age of the animal. I adopted my now 10 year old dog at 4 months and he had a medical issue with his skin which the adoption agency paid for. The adoption fee was $350 but included all his shots, neutered, rabies, skin medication, and a 25 pound bag of dog food (natural balance so not the cheap stuff so easily $50-$70). I was fostering him initially so the adoption agency paid for his food while I had him then too. So everything was WAY more than $350 but the group didn’t ask for anymore than that.
You shouldn’t put a price on a life. It is one thing if you ask for a $100 or $200 adoption fee since shelters and foster homes need a little something since it costs them money care for pets. Anything beyond that is unreasonable. It’s a life, not a product.
Yeah! In Florida, if you don’t have a health care certificate, you’ll go to jail! The state of Florida passed this in January 2024! So, this really has made this year even better!
I remember a pet shop in Blackpool close to the seafront selling puppies out of tiny cages back in the late 90s...and then it burned down! Not seen any since then though, thank goodness.

My 2nd and last puppy was bought by a private owner where I met the Mother and Father of the puppy and she lived for almost 16 years. @ No, but look at all the dogs that aren’t getting adopted because of these restrictions they’re getting put down or they’re being flown up to Canada because it’s easier to adopt dogs up there
Dog breeders also dumped a bunch of their unsold dogs at the shelter I volunteer at. They should just band intentionally making dogs to sell for profit.
Yea, but they certainly gave that shop way more problems to deal with that $800 ain't gonna solve lol. Plus, the puppy's being put into a foster home, not being sold to any rando who walks in with the money.
@@CrimsonPriestessofMiracles but this is the problem, people dont know whjere to find those breeders and assume these shops get dogs from them legally. While I wholeheartedly believe in adopt, don't shop, I feel like this kind of bill will simply drive puppy mills to sell underground in a black market-esque way and may become even more unregulated cause they don't have to work with pet stores. I think I would've preferred a bill that required pet shops to be transparent about where each puppy comes from and requiring all breeders/suppliers of puppies to have regularly updated websites with easily accessible pictures of the dogs, their condition, and the kind of diet they have.
