While I am a Scotch man, having over 40 different scotches currently in my stash, I keep several American Whiskeys in my collection, Wild Turkey 101 is one of them. I love it! Great review!
I'm the exact opposite, I have around 60 bourbons, but I just recently started trying/collecting scotch and I've found a few really good ones. With that said, no daily drinking bourbon is better than WT101 in my personal opinion, it's cheap, strong, cuts through a mix well and has tons of depth.
Wild Turkey's Heavy char, high rye, and higher proof keep me coming back. at $17.99 a bottle it's the undisputed best value for Bourbon whiskey on the market. High proof, great aroma, great flavor. 8/10 easily. Better than most $30-$80 bourbons
Wild Turkey 101 is a solid, straight up bourbon. Definitely a staple. It's also useful after a few expensive pours. You can get warm with WT after enjoying more expensive drams for flavor.
One of my favorite everyday bourbons. I can't believe you didn't get fruits on the palate. I just drank WT101 neat just moments before watching this, and got lots of orange and berries on the palate. The citrus reared up again on the finish. Very fruity, sweet bourbon, which was so smooth, you'd never guess it was 101 proof without looking at the label.
Thanks & btw, very interesting footnote on the comparatively recent warehouse fire. Don't remember hearing about it before. Russell's Reserve 10 year bourbon, the 81 and the 101 are the only ones available in Pennsylvania. Best regards
With 101 being a hearty, but not overly aggressive pour, I give it about 15-20 minutes to open up, then become it's intended potential. When just a few drops of filtered water are added, I find more than just a bit of cherry and not fully ripened pear, along with mellow toffee and caramel, small hint of maple syrup as well Definitely has a place at my small bar, makes for a very nice bourbon rocks as well.
For me, Wild Turkey 101 is Bourbon. I enjoy it neat, mixed or on the rocks. One thing I will say is that when enjoyed on the rocks, you will notice more of the corn cob flavor. It's a phenomenal whiskey and for the price, who could argue!
I’m new to bourbon, tried this for the first time tonight had it neet, oh man it’s so good, tastes amazing new fav bourbon so far, tastes like it should cost way more, I’m recently turned 18 aswell, in Australia where the legal drinking age is 18+
generalzod4life haven’t tried rye before but I definitely will sometime, but I got this issue where if I throw up from a type of alcohol it just tastes bad afterwards and that happened with bourbon, my body would probably treat rye like it’s bourbon, I just gotta give it more time, same thing happened with beer like a year and a half ago and I’m starting to like that again
tried this for the first time at 13, when i got a sip from my dad, it burned, but i never forgot the flavor, i now mix it, I take a large yeti, and fill the small bottom with Bourbon, and the top with Diet coke, stir that with a straw and take a sip. tis the best drink out there to me
Just a side note, i heve never thought that adding 3 drops of water will change the taste that much. Will deffinately try that next time, as WT101 is one of my favourites. Thanx
Personally, I added a Few drops of water which didn't really take away the burn but I've decided to get drunk off this bottle, considering it is stronger than 45 percent and it costed only forty dollars around here. I did appreciate the vanilla/cherry and possible toffee(possibly) on the nose after first sip. It is a beautiful bottle 😅
Thanks for including the with/without water notes. Bourbon beginner here, and I saw on a different channel where the guy said you should definitely not add water to "1729" bourbon (and they say the same on the distillery tour). I know it's mostly up to the person drinking, but it's nice to hear your comments when a little water makes a big difference (good or bad). And maybe nothing shocking here, but with a fresh pour I still smell alcohol. If I let it sit for 15 minutes or so, the alcohol seems to burn off, and I can actually smell the caramels and vanillas. Is that normal for a beginner?
I have a lot of bottles of scotch and would love to have a bourbon alibi as well, and I think this one would be a good choice. But it is double the price in my country, roughly $59, and at that price it might not be good value so I'm on the fence.
Had to cringe a little when you said "you wouldn't want to take a big gulp of this." Back in college, before I knew anything about whiskey, me and a few roommates split a bottle of this, shot by shot. Was not pleasant drinking, but it made for a fun night. I'll have to try drinking 101 correctly sometime!
Just got into Wild Turkey, again, after many years. Truly one of my favorites. I honestly think you and I have the same tastes when it comes to whiskey. Enjoy your channel!
I bought the 200ml flask bottle for a party the other day, and it went. People sucked that shit down over the scotch I had also bought for the party. The next party: full-sized bottle of Wild Turkey 101! 😎
having a small tumbler of WT 101 neat with some rice and beans with hot sauce. Oh my goodness my drink turned into caramel gooey sweetness. what a cool surprise
The Whiskey Dic - Bought a bottle today and did the test before rewatching the video. Very surprised to have also noticed more of the caramel and less harshness with 3 drops of water. I might have to have the girlfriend switch the glasses around for a “blind” test later. Thanks!
I sure wish I could actually taste & smell all of these different notes in whiskey /bourbon. I just decided to get into bourbon with Elijah Craig small batch. I've never actually sipped whiskey /bourbon but I think I'm liking it. Maybe the longer I do it I'll be able to get some of the smells and flavors. I'll try the 101 next because it's only $18 here in Arizona.
It took me a long time to be able to get as good as I am, and I still keep growing. Keep it up :) The 101 wont have a ton to pick out. If you're up for it, get makers mark and watch my video on it. You may learn something :)

For years I have enjoyed Wild Turkey 101 but recently I purchased 2 bottles with the same lot number and had a very off taste. It has been a month and they have yet to make good on their promise. Customer service is key to any product, and will be switching to Maker’s Mark.
Wild Turkey 101, drank it neat.. not bad but didn't make me excited. Added some water to see if more flavor.., nothing really. Added cola. Tastes good, but Monkey Shoulder opened more flavor. 30$ 750mL Monkey Shoulder > 30$ 1.75L Wild Turkey 101 ..... still haven't forgotten about Glenmorangie Signet just want to try more and more whiskeys before

The good news is its very different taste. So MAYBE? I have a friend who won't drink tequilla for that reason
Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey 101, Old Forester you cannot go wrong.
Old forester is good and I know a lot of people like it (even my dad) but it's never been my thing

My favorite bourbon.
i like the whiskey very much! I don't know about the flavor notes or any of that stuff but I know what I like. as a side note, I like rebel yell too.

An added bonus of this whiskey is that it holds up well to ice.
I love this bourbon. The spice on the end is great.

Good question. I always like reviewing wild turkey expressions
Love your opinions as they are honest. You are my first choice of channels on whiskey to learn about a product.
Thank you Paul! I really appreciate it
The 101 is such a great on the rocks drink. The whiskey is flavourful enough to punch through the ice, yet the ice also smooths out the ABV kick.
Ahhh my stand by. I always have wild turkey on hand. I really like the rye!! Give it a try.
