These tutorials are insane. 5 minutes of content and I'm learning fundamentals that are the MOST IMPORTANT and that NOBODY REALLY TALKS ABOUT. I am SOOOOOOOO thankful for this.
Just this week I was pondering the idea of using the sculpt mode to smoothen topology of hard surface models and why I never saw it being done in tutorials. And here you are. Nice tips!
The basic "Model this or that" are mostly easy shapes and 95% repetition. This Video is picking out all the very new and good Stuff put in 5 Minutes. Love it.
I came here for a few advanced tips since switching from Maya to blender at work in the games industry. With Nanite, modeling clean is more important than ever. For that thank you! I won't say them by name, but the guys doing all boolean, topology doesn't matter, only shading matters kinda stuff do not work in the real world very often.
i love the way you make rounder inside square, it's something i need to practice, to have clean geometry instead of shity stuff, that bring me nightmare to lighting and subdivide.
Former Method Studios, senior modeler with a track record going back to Blade and Armageddon teaching Blender topology for...... free. this can't be real right lol
I think all I use in this one is loop tools and it comes with Blender. If you can point me to a specific time I will be able to tell you more. Thanks for the comments :-)
Ah ah! No, don't, and try to use numbers that can be decided by four. Helps for symmetry. I forgot to mention it. Next clip. When you get stuff converted from CAD it happens a lot that you get odd number of edges on cylinder. Thanks for the comments! :-)
Thank you for actually useful knowledge. Most DCC's have a grid fill option. I don't know about that edge loop circle option though, how did you activate that pie menu? But still, that solution to triangle fans is very appreciated.
Blender mesh selection is so dim, so youtube can't handle it properly, and it kills your eyes during extensive modeling as well. This is because fresnel effect that dims selection artificially, and this is happening for four years already. The devorg task that needs to fix has already celebrated its anniversary. Isnt that great?
I saw your other comment about smoothing. YT removed it because of the link. You can also just relax the vertices. I talk about it in one of the advanced modeling tutorials. :-)
Hi! The logo doesn't cover any important information for this clip but I will be more careful in the future, As for going too fast, I'm sorry about that. It's an advanced tutorial and therefor I have to assume that the viewer already knows these tools. I'm just showing the techniques, not how to use the tools themselves. :-)
Merci de tes commentaires. Je ne peux pas montrer mes raccourcis parce que je les ai complètement changé. Il ne reste presque plus rien de la configuration originale. C'est le résultat d'avoir passé 23 and su Maya.
To be fair to Andrew, he also approaches tutorials different to many others. UA-cam Blender tut's are 99% hard surface, boolean mod, concept art for games that don't exist. Good to see applications being used for real-world scenarios.
Loop tools addon for the cycle. Thanks for the comments! About 50 people told me they will try my cookies but nobody did... Are you REALLY going to try? Huh? Huh?
@@BlenderBob HAHAHA, ahh man I keep forgetting that Loop Tool is even a thing. I think it was the first add on i added years ago. Also, tbh, I might make your cookies, but having never actually baked cookies, it seems like i;d be setting the bar WAY too high making the best cooking ever on my first attempt. Maybe I should try to mess up some simple oat cookies first?
on 2:49 how the h*** do you get that pie menu with hard edges, bevel, circle, edge slide etc? You go so fast in the tutorial and don't even enable keystrokes. so we can follow.
I use Pie menu editor. I don’t show which key I use because I remapped too many keys. This is an advanced tutorial so people following it should already know these functions without me having to explain them all. Circle comes and space come from loop tools. Comes with Blender.

@@deepincouch2642 That's a custom marking menu done with Pie Menu Editor. I think I talk about it in my Maya to Blender survival guide. Check it out. :-)
Would you really sculpt a plane? The topology was almost even anyway, it seems like such overkill? (Sorry honest question lol) That adds a huge amount of work for a big shot with lots of modeling doesn't it? With displacement the polygon variation per polygon at a level of 5 is going to be exponentially smaller than the very small difference in polygon area variation in the original model doesn't it?! With motion blur no one will ever know haha
Of course we could sculpt a plane. Maybe the plane is covered with mud. Maybe it's been scratched. Any zBrush artist will tell you that the more even the polys are the better it is for sculpting. And I would never do a level 5 subdivision for rendering. I would go Experimental and use an adaptive subdivision to get the best displacement possible and keep the scene lighter. How do you know there's going to be motion blur? :-)
ok ok I trust you obviously :) The topology to my eyes looked fairly even, I wasn't aware that much precision was required, I don't seem to notice it in zbrush curious if 5 percent variation in vertex evenness would notice on screen? I just wonder if it would really be noticeable with adaptive subdivision I'm just wondering if its even noticeable on screen haha in zbrush "fairly even" topology works fine to me, but I'm not working on a hero asset for a 4k imax film close up shot, I hoenstly can't tell in render :)
@@picosdrivethru Well, chances are, nobody will ever see it, as it happens all the time. But I can tell you that in the VFX industry, zBrush artists are very picky about the topology and they will send it back if they are not happy with it. In this case it was a simple grid so yeah, pretty even to begin with but the idea of the clip is to show different technics and ways of modeling. :-)
@@BlenderBob même dans Zbrush ? lol ^^ nan mais c'est vrai ce que tu dit, c'est des pratique qui nuise à la qualité des modèles et comme un con je fait ça depuis trop d'années, stop ^^!!! Please enable on-screen key strokes for your tutorials. I have hard time finding that "circle" and "space" functions you use.
Ah, they were in the Loop Tools addon
hey blender bob, what button did you press to make the lines equadistant. You said press space. You also used it to make the edges form a circle.
I use Pie Menu editor and changed a lot of hotkeys. So just do it the regular way. That was probably loop tools
