In prison I used to get a 5 liter bottle and fill it with orange juice. A few slices of brown bread.Then a bag of sugar with hot water. Then leave it on the pipes they are hot. And 7 days tops it’s about 15 percent . And if you get done it’s a extra month lol

Ah good ol' pruno.... I did the same with grape juice and Lavlin EC1118 when I was underage... It's as smooth as drinking a glass of moldy bread but a single glass will do you.
I'm surprised that the acidity wasn't too high though. Acidity tends to rise as the fermentation process progresses - with something like apple juice that isn't a problem but orange juice is already acidic. I imagine the ferment would stall pretty easily.
Also, I don't think you got to 15%. A lot of wine yeasts don't go to 15% - and bread yeast is less robust. Not to mention, even if you take a yeast that's rated up to 15% to 15%, you tend to get some really bad flavors because the yeast starts struggling at higher alcohol concentrations... Most bread yeast max out at around 10%.
Now people use stingers to distill the pruno into some vodka

The bottle of dark spiced rum at the beginning was a drink known as 'kraken'; it's actually insanely good.

They also said it was 160 proof which is 80% whereas Kraken is 40%. That is the exact colour and bottle shape of kraken, you can literally see the marks where they ripped off the old label so at the very least we know it was re-used

I have alot more appreciation for this than i do for modern industry. all the rules and regulations of being legal in just about any type of business, sucks the soul out of it.
There's nothing illegal about it though. You can brew, drink, give away as much alcohol as you want, the only illegal part is selling it.

Back in the days of the old wild wild west, I used to love trying to find some video of some random dude with a HUGE set of balls who used like a whole house for growing LOTS of dope, or some dudes who would camp out on there patch as they grew 1000's of plants outdoor, as I always loved the balls and how commited to it all they where, they knew if they got caught it gameover.
Nowdays you can look up videos of million dollar grow rooms, huge big places, but it just isnt the same thing.

Technically, distilling your own liquor isnt totally illegal, selling it is though. That and I'm pretty sure everyone on this show is actually licensed and they wayyyy oversell the "illegal" element

What’s the point of sticking something in the pipe when the moonshine starts to pour out? I’ve seen it in a good amount of these videos and can’t figure out what the point of it is. I’m generally curious.
Makes the stream run better into the jars.
Put water in a jar and try to pour it out. Some will run down the jar and get your hand wet. Same concept as to why you do that.

but really though, if the moonshine is made with brown (cane) sugar as it's sugar source, doesn't that make it a rum?
Yes and no. Rum is run on pot stills - so flavor from the sugar cane carries over into the final product. They were essentially running a multi-plate reflux still here - when alcohol is coming off at 80% ABV, very little of the mash flavors will actually carry over. You end up with something closer to vodka or Everclear (or what Jack Daniel is before it's aged) than anything else in this case...
The only exception is when you add something like lemongrass or another very pungent oily herb into the equation - then the flavor tends to carry over no matter what. Even multiple runs and charcoal filtering can't save a horribly flavored batch.

Honestly I'm not a big fan of Mike and Jerry's because Mike thinks he's all that in a bag of chips and he knows everything about everything and he just the way he talks to people and the way he treats his former partner was very disrespectful but on the other hand he seems to have the knowledge and the know-how on how to come up with different flavored moonshine so here's my challenge to you too I dare you to figure out how to make moonshine and mix monster energy drink with it into the moonshine to make your own monster energy drink moonshine I dare you guys to do that because you guys think you guys can do it and enjoy a challenge while there's a challenge for you open door challenge take monster energy drink and turn it into a wonderful moonshine cuz there's people in the college world at the universities that would swallow that stuff up like Sherman going through Georgia and enjoy every bit of it
