  • Bert checks in with Mallory David from Parker Sporlan at the 4th Annual HVACR Training Symposium as she demonstrates the use of braze-free ZoomLock MAX and ZoomLock PUSH fittings. ZoomLock MAX is the press-to-connect fitting, and ZoomLock PUSH is the push-to-connect fitting.
ZoomLock PUSH fittings come in two varieties: removable and optimized. The removable style has a plastic lip, allowing it to be removed even after installation with a proper tool, and has an O-ring that is compatible with R-22. PUSH fittings can withstand up to 870 PSI, meaning that leaks are most likely caused by improper installation rather than the fittings themselves.
ZoomLock MAX fittings are rated to withstand 700 PSI. The tool and jaw provide three points of pressure before, after, and on the O-ring, giving you a leak-free seal every time.
For best results, clean the copper tubing before adding the ZoomLock fitting, preferably with Scotch-Brite. You'll also want to check for ridges on the copper, which may create leak points for the refrigerant. It's also best to use a depth gauge and mark the tubing with a Sharpie. Then, you just push on the fitting until it clicks. Then, you align the O-ring with your pressing tool and press it to make a leak-free seal.
ZoomLock also has pre-made flare fitting options available; these can especially come in handy on ductless installations.

I would love to see the pricing a little better especially here in Canada

How is it different than a pro-press fitting? Is the o-ring better suited for use with refrigerant?

Very similar to a propress fitting. It's designed specifically to handle both chemically and pressures of most refrigerants

@@specialK_hvac interesting, thanks for the info. Have you found that it's worth it to use? Not flowing nitrogen or worrying about brazing sounds nice. Can you use the same press tool used for plumbing for these fittings or do they have special jaws specific for these fittings?

They are a special jaw. In my experience with them, the plumbing jaws make an octagon finish product, and the refrigerant jaws are round when done. So far I haven’t had any issues with the press style when prepped correctly.

@@itsgalf The jaws for ZoomLock MAX are specific to ZoomLock MAX refrigerant press fittings. It's perfect for not using flame or flowing nitrogen and provides a cleaner install.

Hey sporlan, When's the next time you're running a promotion for the jaws. Unfortunately my set of 32kn jaws were stolen, done a lot more jobs this winter than I normally do and could have used them with my ridgid.

We do run promotions from time to time but it depends on your wholesaler distributor as far as what specials they have.

yeah. I prefer brazing anyways. Parker Sporlan soldRLS fittings under their ZoomLock brand starting January of 2015. In December of 2019, the agreement with Parker Sporlan ended and was not renewed.

Very poor representation for the proper installation.
First step is proper cutting and deburring of the pipe!! She NEVER mentions that. Leave a bur, especially on the outside and it has the potential to cut the o-ring and this is a leak.
She meant to say horizontal and NOT vertical. Pipe orientation does make a difference when making this reference, to a point. Then maybe the best thing to say is along the pie length.
Second step would be to clean the pipe. Again, leave a bur and use the pad to clean it and most likely you get a cut on your hand(if not wearing gloves).
Was there an issue with the tool not releasing or did she not know how to use it? That removal of the fitting from a pipe in an actual installation won't fly!!
