I don't want to hear "mid range" and "3080" in the same sentence again.
well when you have $899 versions of the same card a $749 3080 is low-mid range in terms of pricing.
@@fallout_boy__9437 Funny how the TUF OC is most likely the best 3080 relative to price. My choice was a Aorus Xtreme, but I can use the price difference towards Zen 3 SOON ™
@@The1Mischief Newegg has it for $700 why on earth would anyone get anything else unless they don't want to wait?
@@wii166 Why would anyone get it, period? We KNOW this is the gimped version and that the 20GB version is coming...and even that might not stack up against AMDs offering this year...I am not impressed by nVidia's "Ampere" at all. Seems like they went "Brute Force" and just push as much power as they can through their cards. I prefer a more efficient, more elegant solution.
Well what nvidia wants you think is that it's a bargain compared to 2080ti. You're lucky this time. That what you're supposed to think.
Great work as always, Steve! I know I and many others appreciate you doing all these 30-series reviews regardless of availability. Having more information is never a bad thing. Keep on trucking, mate.
Only thing I wish is that that put some cooling pads on the back and maybe some support. Thanks again for the review and for taking apart the card to see how its put together. Really like that part of the review!
Managed to get one of these. The first gpu I've not needed to set a custom fan curve for or overclock. Out of the box the performance and cooling is excellent.
By sheer chance your channel has actually reviewed all the models I am interested in comparing performance for. Thankyou and well done, very informative 👍
How many can you actually buy?
@@edc1569 Precisely zero. AMD GPU's will be reviewed soon, so I'll at least have a good idea of what might become available in 2021.
I wonder when Nvidia will launch their 30-series 🤔
They will skip it completely.
@@Veraxu1227 dang! I kinda thought the same, but reading it makes it hurt more. Now, should I play Cyberpunk 2077 on medium on release, or wait till mid 2021 to play it on high :/
Bravo
@@Veraxu1227 source?
@@Veraxu1227 yeah i dont think tsmc has any room for nvidia in the next few quarters with consoles, iphones and amd cpus selling like hotcakes. maybe q3 q4 at the earliest.
Now if I can only remember all these reviews by the time actual real stock becomes available in the 3080s...
Do you mean the year 3080?
Save each Reviews in Browser's Bookmarks. Then you can go back when the time comes.
@@Mr_.G create a review playlist .. but he'll forget anyway by the time availablity picks up and prices fall.
Besides boards improve as market matures
@@RobBCactive, I'm well aware of that thanks. Not new to Hardware at all. With reference to the Bookmarks, if the person is that bothered with noting reviews and keeping track of them then that person would physically write it down in their research as well, then refer to said research when the time came to decide what hardware he/she wants.
You only need to re-watch the last 3080 review, as he adds them all to the list as he goes along... That being said, once you actually CAN get a 3080 you're going to want a 6900XT :P
This was the only one I was able to get into my Basket during launch so was consequently was the one I went with so thanks for the breakdown. I've been very impressed with all the findings I've been able to gather for this card and your review just adds further confirmation I made a good 'choice'. There was an issue with the power connectors on the early production models but any models going into stores now should have the revised connector. Now just waiting to actually get the thing
Had this card for 2-3 weeks now, Bloody amazing card, runs cool, quiet and overclocks decently for a mid range model. I can't get the thing to go above 65c no matter what I do, might be my case and setup also but my last card was hitting 72c OC in the same slot. Very Very happy with it, I can definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a good cool reliable card. ps RTX 4k Ultra is Amazeballs!!!
What kind of case and cooling setup do you have? I have the same card and I'm about to buy a new case
This is the worst 3080 u prob won the silicon lottery lol
@@josevillegas606 Not the worst, there are brands that use way worse components than what Gigabyte does, Galax for one is terrible, have gone through a lot of those and Inno3D cards have failed me quite badly in the past too. Still yet to have a Gigabyte card fail(touch wood).
This card is still going strong, I ended up replacing the thermal pads and paste on it just to see what it did, made it even better by about 10%. This thing overclocked simply crushes any games I throw at it in 1440p or 4k and in the downtime between gaming it mines me some crypto too. Paid itself back a couple of months ago, and I'm gonna upgrade it to an RTX 4090 when they come out and give this one to my son to replace his GTX 1060.
@White Fox Card is still going amazingly well, no crashes nothing bad has happened. I'm so damn glad I bought it when I did, the only thing I did do to it was change the thermal pads and paste, bought the best stuff I could, it didn't really need it but I did it anyways just to be safe to make sure the ddr6x memory stayed cool because I did some mining with the gpu also and have since paid back the price of the card just by mining for a while. Best purchase of my life so far, the damn thing has even paid for itself, I'm amazingly happy :)
@White Fox Either of them are great cards, I don't think you can go wrong with those. Good luck mate :)
Thanks for the detailed and lengthy work going into all this. I hope you get more support. Some of it has been helpful deciding parts on my build. I chose an Aorus Master in the end, I got scared away by the components on the cheaper AsRock. I cannot afford such a beast gpu but got a 2060 for now, I was waiting on pricing on 3060.. I got a 3600 waiting on 5000 series 12 core. But I might stick with it OC thanks to solid reviewing.
Happy I managed to snag this one on a random newegg drop. I hadn't done any research on it but glad to see it holds up to the competition and I think it looks great in my pc.
Still loving the RTX spatulas in the background 😂
Great catch, I didn't even notice that lol.
I'm so lucky to have snagged this graphics card back in December it took an overnight camp at a local micro center but I never knew how worth it it would be considering how difficult it's been for people the past year. I don't take my fortune for granted even though it was a pain in the ass waiting overnight for a card.
Thanks for the great content as always! Regarding pricing and comparison with TUF base model - Gigabyte provide (in our imaginary land at least :P) Eagle OC - which is also MSRP and have the same cooler design with I believe similar PCB design (at least in terms of terrifying caps :P).
Would be cool to see review of this one as well. When / if you guys receive it.
A new harbor unboxed video to make my day better. The spatulas are also a nice touch🤣
5:30 My R9 290X died in the beginning of 2018 without warning but it was sagging like crazy and I have a feeling that this is what caused its demise. I'll definitely consider the TUF gaming because of its incredibly thick backplate
12:08 And that's one of the many reasons why I absolutely love your videos, you leave no stone unturned and investigate any issues however unlikely they are
I preordered a 3080 eagle I'm switching from a 2080 do I need to clean my drivers from my old card? I've heard that gforce experience does it for you but other people say I have to use DDU.
Finally got my hands on one. Be here Friday. Wanted the strix, but I’ll take what I can get.
Me too!!!
Very relieved you gave this card a thumbs up, as it was the only one in the store that I bought, and many were complaining about the poor capacitors and what not.
Great review as always..good to know before the cards are available.
I was very lucky and secured one of these at launch. Its been running with zero issues even on the First driver and I'm very happy with performance and quietness. There is difference between the 2 BIOS's, I agree they seem to be the same/similar noise level but the silent mode does run a few % lower fps across the board from my own testing.
Appreciate all the work, thx for reviews upside down Steve!
Managed to get one of these, it is really good, quiet, cool and fast
I got one of these on release day (obviously without knowing how it would perform). I never thought I'd be so nervous watching one of Steve's reviews/benchmark videos.
Thanks for letting us know about the cooler on the asus tuf 3080. I was curious if the OC model had a different cooler than the base model.
I just snached one from newegg. seems like a solid card. Thanks for the review!!
Should I try and get this or the gaming x trio? Or are they both about the same performance wise?
In terms of thickness, how does it compare to the 2080Ti ROG Strix? I'm hoping to (eventually) get a 3080 that is at least the same or a bit thinner, as I have a M.2 Hypercard in my next PCI Slot, so there is less air room for the GFX card to cool.
Finally got one of these thanks for this review. Cost me 900 pounds in uk tho in july 2021..but sold 2080 super for 350. ..so happy with that.
Great work Steve! Thanks for all the hard work you guys are doing! My favorite tech-tubers are you and Steve-Tech-Jesus ;-)
Hi, Hardware unboxed, may I know the how much MHz you have overclocked this GPU? Please let me know so that ill also try it on my pc!
Absolutly amazing card have it for 3 weeks now not have a single crash..,, when using the oc bios it boost to 2010 mhz without any oc all the time runs at 55c max
I was lucky enough to get this one. It's a champ and the aesthetics have grown on me. The fan side of the card isn't amazing looking but if it's mounted traditionally in a case it looks nice.
Just ordered one today, can’t wait 😃😃😃
Congrats , even though it has a good cooler, like all 3080's I would look into undervolting, really worth doing.
Hi! It is possible set fan speed to 10 - 20% (in own curve)? Thank You for the answer! :)
Will we see any testing with the updated power limit on the tuf with the new bios?
I'm wondering if the AMD cards will be in stock first. We'll know a little more next week hopefully.
I got this card a couple weeks ago and its AMAZING!!! I have had no issues with crashing.
Hi congrats mate!
Tell me do you still got the crash issue or nvidia fixed with an update driver !?
@@KenneXS never had any crashing issues, runs like a dream.
@Hardware Unboxed did you also get a gigabyte 3080 vision?
Do you mind sharing the first 4 digits of the serial number (year + week of production)? Gigabyte has claimed that cards produced on and after week 39 have fixed power connectors.
Hey Steve! I ordered a Palit RTX GeForce 3080 GamingPro videocard here in Europe, I can't wait to arrive. I read a review about the card on Guru3D.com and they said that the card reaches the 70 degree under load (my current RTX 2060 Super reaches the same temperature so I'm not worried). This card was the only available 3080 where I live, though it comes with a 3 years warranty. What is your opinion about the Palit cards in general?
Made from genuine unobtainium.
I heard they are made from moon rock.
Ordered one 30min after launch, still havent gotten my hands on it.
@@jerppepepe how about now? Lol
@@stambo1983 Im 5-10th place in que atm next batch is coming 28th of april... so 2 more months.
@@jerppepepe now?
what do you think will be available first Intel mainstream 10nm or RTX 30 series
I've been waiting for this. I'm going to watch and assumably pre order one at PC Case Gear. 👌
Still good with the caps... even though there's no stock to buy heh
thanks for the review was informative
well done. i will get this one since the recent gpu price drop
always love to see them AHHHTX 3000 series reviews.
Steve...are you guys going to review the Palit versions of these card? Both the 3080 and 3090?
He said that he was interested in reviewing palit cards and that it's his first palit card. He said it in that recent unboxing video.
I have just ordered a 3080 vision OC is it similar? Can you do a review please?
Thank you. This is the best Gigabyte RTX3080 Gaming OC review on UA-cam.
This is the card I picked up at launch and it's working great. And call me crazy but I actually quite like the look of the card with the missing notch 🙃
I just snached this card as well
Which model runs quietest?
Any news on watercooled versions with an AIO, like the Gigabyte Waterforce versions in the past?
It's good that HU review cards in a case. As most of us use cases, these figures are way more relevant than open-test-bench results.
Is there anything wrong with this card compared to the others? How will it compare to the zotac 3080?
I found Quake II RTX to be best to test stability (especially when overclocking). What looks to be stable in Shadow of the Tomb Raider can be unstable in Quake II RTX.
Will you be doing a review of Gigabyte's 3080 Vision OC edition? and/or do you know if the pcb is alike?
You can pretty much use this as a review for the Vision that has exactly the same PCB and cooler, obviously different shroud and backplate which will have minimal effect.
Great review! Great channel!
are there any oc benchmarks with a waterblock?
Excelent test, like always
I cant find Buildzoid's PCB breakdown on this card like you mention at 6:03 ?
Mine had a power connector pin issue but gigabyte repaired it under warranty and now it’s working great
Anyone have the original gigabyte 3090 gaming OC bios? i installed the wrong bios on my card and i didnt backup the bios. let me know if anyone can send me the original bios for it.
I wonder what he config is on the Vision OC, it doesn't seem to be used by anyone except for a very few smaller youtubers that doesn't check those kinds of things
There are over 530 listings on Ebay right now for 3080s lol. Would love to know what that % is of total cards released.
Steve I would like to point out that Gigabyte changed that power connector added photo on TWATER :)
At 4:31 I'm guessing "A-202035" means that copper plate or the whole cooler was assembled around August 24-30 of 2020?
Recieved this card yesterday, it's actually somewhat better than my 3080 Ventus, so I ended up returning the Ventus and keeping the Gigabyte. Chonky boy , clocks super well and keeps low temps, was playing at 59c yesterday (custom fancurve). Oc'ed it at +120Mhz so 1920Mhz + the nvidia boost = usually hits 2050-2100.
Yea that's what mine can hit, this model seems very consistent, although I have chosen to undervolt 1920mhz at 875mv. Only loose a few fps for like a 70watt average drop depending on the game.
@@Battleneter I would probably undervolt as well during summertimes when it gets too hot, now I dont see the need really, its super stable and on low temps.
@@vedomedo Yea I have already chosen to undervolt for standard gaming, although I have run stock in a 30C room last week, and it still only hit 72C at like 1800rpm which was impressive. With a 1920mhz at 875mv undervolt, save maybe 60 watts on average and only loose 1-3 fps. With the undervolt she barely cracks 60C with the stock fan profile.
@@Battleneter Undervolted and then Overclocked I can't get this thing to go above 65c it's a thing of beauty, I can hardly hear it in games and the amount of FPS this thing pumps out is insane, VERY VERY Happy with my purchase.
What is oc mhz on by rtx 3080?
THAT TIME HAS COME! :)))
what's the size of thermal pads ?
How does this card fair against the asus tuf oc in terms of performance ?
managed to grab one of these from newegg gonna run it for a few months until availability gets better and i can get the card i want long term
I was so lucky to buy this as I woke up at 6.00 AM and found out there were 2 of this card in stock at my local Memory Express
well.........can the pc system with 10900 non K, cpu air cooler 2x12cm fan rgb, dual ram, 3 hdd sata3, 3 hdd usb3, 1 ssd sata3, 8x12cm fan case rgb, with psu 850 plus gold, is still very safe to using this vga ??
G'day Steve & Teddy Jr.,
I finally realised why the Fan at the I/O end is smaller & the shroud has the 'missing bit',
it makes the Aorus Eagle Head Logo (the Eagle Beak at the top of the Centre Fan) when you are looking at the Fans,
So it seems nVIDIA has done with Ampere what AMD does with their GPUs, by releasing them able to Boost themselves to the point a 'User OC' doesn't really gain much 'extra viewable performance' from their 'Out of the box' setting
hi guys i'm just curious - in my country (philippines) rtx 3080's are going for +1100 USD. once availability is normal next year, do you think prices will come down, or are gpus simply expensive in my neck of the woods?
See what 2080ti used to cost in your area... you get good measure from that.
@@haukionkannel 2080 TI stayed super expensive throughout its life here. :( oh well. thanks for the tip
2 years later and people can finally buy these
I just purchased a gaming rig with a Gigabyte 3080 in it...I was surprised but pre built rigs are still out there. Looking forward to gaming new gen.
Got the V2 (revised version) of this card, the backplate has thermal pads and it's spreading the heat greatly.
I just got mine today... How do you know if you got version 2.0 with the additional thermal pads?
Hi Steve, could you test undervolting on those ampere cards. You hear some unbeliveable claims from different sites and youtube channels and me and many other people, would like to see a test, by a reviewer we trust.
Check out Optimum Tech on youtube, he's done undervolting for Ampere and previous generations. Also ozzie, also very high quality testing.
It varies a lot from card to card. How good an underclocker a card is is really a matter of the silicon lottery. I recommend you wait for big navi if tdp is an issue for you
Yeah Optimum Tech is a great channel, I trust him nearly as much as Hardware Unboxed.
@@shadowblack5455 Do you think it will be much better? Sure the process is superior but Nvidia does have an architectural lead, at least at 4K. I can see frame per watt being better at 1440p and 1080p though.
@@cptwhite Ali is a good guy, you can fully trust him.
I heard this card has a heating problems , is that true?
I've got this card and its great.
However, one of the power pins was bent and the pcie power connector wouldn't insert, I had to bend it back with some tweezers.
ngl I was shitting myself, I felt incredibly lucky getting it, only to be hit with the possibility of having to return it for a replacement...
It's just a bit of conductive metal though so I'm not worried... 4 year warranty too, cant go wrong.
8 more days!
The takeover continues. 😎👍
Nice Timing Steve... when my tea and snack are ready to enjoy
I was lucky enough to get this card on release day and have liked it so far. Nice and quiet, works great and was a decent price.
Same, it's a great card, I would recommend it to anyone.
+1 Ye had mine nearly 4 weeks, its done nothing but be impressive.
Welcome back to harbor unboxed
Please, check out the Aorus Master and Xtreme versions. They look super chonky, wonder how they do!
Clicked to drop a like just for the thumbnail 😂 be back to watch later!
Thank you.
I have a power consumption question. I wanna buy an RTX 3080 GPU and I am currently using the GTX 1060 6GB model. What will be the kWh difference when I make this change?
About 1kWh extra for 5 hours of "very solid" gaming, with desktop activity UA-cam and browsing etc about the same as your gtx 1060. You can undervolt the 3080's saving about 70watts at load for only the loss of a few fps, in fact I recommend doing that.
Got one and it's amazing!
EDIT: I had a problem with mine. The VRAM ran extremely hot, often reaching 106 degrees when gaming and the fans ramped up to max to stop the overheat and rendering or mining (or any highly punishing activity to the memory made it thermal throttle instantly).
Overall, it's quite a simple fix, just replace the rubbish white putty (sad excuse of thermal pads) with some decent 2mm ones (mine are thermal grizzly) and the card is good to go again. Just disappointed that they cheaped out on it, although the average pure gamer will most likely not run into these issues. Just the people with workloads that punish the memory.
You were mining werent you
what i rly like about gigabyte, is there including stuff that nobody does.. like on most cards we got more hdmi and displayport and now its the powerbrick build-in so we can use normal 8pin power.. amazing :D
on motherboard side there was always some features that you dont see on other mb, idk if its still applying to the new generation but the older Z97 and the Special Editions etc. where amazing!
and 4 years warranty where all other vendors only offer 2-3
I'm glad to see that it doesn't really matter what kind of 3080 you get, they all work well phew xD
It's funny to see all tech channels release reviews for those cards almost no one can get. 😉😄
Thanks! Sucks you have to try and head off the haters at the beginning of each review. I just want to be ready to buy and be informed when they are available.
Its the same as 1080 ti sli , is this why they killed sli? some games you get 3 to 4 more fps other sli you get more. i was thinking it would be better then that.
I wish they had carried the style forward from the previous generation. I have a Gigabyte 2080 Ti and I love the looks of it with the angled crossbars. My build showcases the GPU and while I'd like the extra performance, the looks are a step back in my opinion, so I will probably hold off before upgrading.
thats the card I got. I just went to a computer store and prepaid for one. Then the next one they got one in they gave to me. It took 2 weeks. If there is a computer store near you like memory express or microcenter or something similar, try doing this.
Don't know what I want for Xmas more. The RTX 3080 or the Turbo Man doll
I'm considering the 3090 version of this but I will wait for your video on it before buying.
