The first time i listened to this album i remember thinking it was just useless screaming, but when i started listening to it more and listening to the lyrics more i almost cried realizing what the songs were really about
Yes. I never really got into the screaming until I focused on the drums. They are the heart of the band and can make the screams so much more impactful. Them and Our Last Night are one of the few who has absolutely amazing drums.
The most approproate reaction to this absolute masterpiece of an album. Especially that transition to Hell Above, i swear to god no ones made a transition that sick & smoothe
The phrase I always use to describe PTV is “sonic maximalism”. It’s always gonna feel like 28949294994 things are happening at once and somehow it all makes sense even though none of it makes sense.
33:59 He's saying "we're like animals homesick from shows" lmao Props and Mayhem was my first PTV song, it will always be one of my favorites lyrically and musically.
oh hell yea, this album ruled my life the year it came out. i'm seeing pierce the veil live on their tour with the used next month (the used is another great band from this era, they've collabed with mcr and just released an album last night!)
Thank you so much for all of your support! I must say, you are quite a person of culture if this is the music that ruled your life. RESPECT. Which album was released last night?
@@nachobusinezzreacts the used - toxic positivity! it's a pretty solid record. if you're going to check out the used for the first time though, i'd recommend their 2004 album "in love and death", they have a cover of queen's under pressure featuring my chemical romance as a bonus track on that one and it's my favorite album of theirs. very excited to see them play with piece the veil in a few weeks! you might even be able to get tickets, they're touring all summer and i think the prices started at $40 though most shows are sold out
Yeah, you will find PTV do less solos, because their riffs are more tiring and complex than MCRs generally! Those "drops" as ya called them, are called "breakdowns" and are basically the guitar solo of the post-hardcore genre which PTV belongs to! So it's kinda like a lil tradeoff- MCR riffs are awesome but not as technical, because they're more punky so they leave the flexing for the solos, whereas PTV is shredding constantly and breakdowns are kinda like the release of energy you get in the MCR verses! Also yeah that Bulls in the Bronx Spanish solo is ridiculous, I'm sure you know yourself but it is ALOT harder to play more technical pieces on an acoustic so it's pretty damn cool! The members of PTV are Mexican-American and proudly weave their heritage into like 90% their guitar work with that Latin American sound, over the years it's been fondly dubbed "mexicore" and there aren't any bands as popular as PTV that really do it, so it REALLY sets them apart from others of the "emo" scenes of the 2000s. If you take a closer listen to all the riffs in each song, you could probably hear it, I think it's very much to do with the way they bounce around scales and also using techniques like tremolo picking and those pinch harmonics you pointed out! Also yep, lots more screaming. MCR can be so chaotic already that many people probably didn't think to forewarn you of that! Yeah MCR do scream less, because their music is more like a buildup to that technique when it happens, whereas PTV are part of a genre that is alot more forward with that sound, you will definitely adjust to it if you choose to continue to listen to music even in other genres that has harsh vocals (I used to hate it when I first discovered it, now I adore PTV and MCR haha!). If PTV is too much, letting ya know that Paramore and Fall Out Boy don't do harsh vocals, but they are less MCR and more pop punk instrumentally! There truly aren't really any bands that encapsulates all of MCRs sound, so to find similar sounds good places to dig around in are bands of the same time, MCRs influences, and also people influenced by MCR.
I didn’t know them at all until I saw them at a festival last week and I’ve been completely obsessed since. There’s 100% more screaming than what I usually listen to (which is no screaming at all lol) but I’m so here for it lol cause it’s like you said, the production is so good, everything fits so well and once you read the lyrics it gets even better cause the lyrics are also sooo good! AND they’re incredible live, I was blown away!! I saw like 15 bands and they were one of my favorites. The energy was crazy, and all the instruments live 🤯 like I can’t even explain the insane amount of dopamine my brain got from their set and it was only like 30min hahaha
i REALLY recommend Sleeping With Sirens' newest album, Complete Collapse, it's amazing, the lead singer is Kellin Quinn who was the higher voice on King for a Day
ANDYYYYYY WHATS UP! Haven’t talked to you in so long! Since you recommended it, I HAVE to check it out and most definitely will. Thank you so much for your support 😁🫶

this was the first album i ever listened too. hearing some of these songs in person changed my life. glad to see other people discovering my fav band 😻😻😻😻
if you loved the spanish guitar and instrumentation of this album, listen to their album selfish machines !! they incorporate their mexican culture into a lot of their music and the instrumentation of the album is somehow even crazier, some of my all time favorite ptv songs are on it including besitos, the new national anthem, disasterology, and i dont care if youre contagious.
id also check out the used if youre into mcr and ptv, they went on tour with ptv this year and used to tour with mcr in their earlier years!! the lead singer of the used bert mccracken also dated gerard way in the early 2000s for a brief period before they had a falling out and started getting clean from drugs separately. to my knowledge theyre friends again :]
