  • Just finished making this Polo/ Doughnut guitar (its got a hole in it) so thought i would play a wee bit and see how it sounds, trying to achieve a harder ( more of a heavy rocker than a Quohead ) sound for one of my fave Quo tracks.. Roll Down The Underlay, The guitars are detuned a semitone or thereabouts and im playing it a tad slower than the original. As usual (UA-cam) NO original recordings being played in the background so you can stick your "matched 3rd party content pish" where Saturns rings dont glow :)

Well played Jamie sounds spot on, you should send one of those guitars to Rossi looks like the real thing, do you know he doesn't play his any more recons he cant keep it in tune, the body is made of pine he says and is going soft, keep them coming

robertllubnrut I heard something along those lines Rob, he should have built one himself!, anybody with basic tools can build a Telecaster, seriously the simplest guitar ever to make, i done this one in about 10 days starting from planks of seasoned Timber, nothing difficult at all, getting the fretboard straight and level frets is about the hardest part but its simple stuff really.

Forgetting the semitone difference but I wonder if you'd talk about the construction of this solo. Is it all D minor pentatonic? in different positions. Regards

Bruce Coote I tuned the guitars down about a semitone Bruce, just to make it a bit heavier sounding, i think its a few BPM slower than the original song, again just for tonal effect. Cheers.

Francis Rossi is a superb lead guitarist. I prefer to listen to a melodic solo rather than a shit load of shredding any day.

From a pretty duff lead break guitarist up till the Piledriver album, Rossi came on leaps and bounds. Still a git though.
