@@MystikManor Robin Hood is definitely a Hero to the poor and meek.my favorite movie was the Earl Flynn version. Though the one with I can't think of his name. It came out I believe 2010, 2011 maybe. I wanna say it was a Quaid, I'm not sure now.. The newer one seemed like it would have been more closely historically correct, though not completely..
@@reginaucker3533 I think you’re referring to the 2010 version with Russell Crowe. I actually haven't seen that yet. I remember seeing previews when it came out and wanting to see it but never did. Is it worth watching? Errol Flynn is iconic. Even after all this time, it came out in 1938, it still holds up as the best imo.
Governments today aren't much different. From what I can see, it always benefits the rich, and keeps the poor in their place. One thing that really irks me, in the States, they aren't taxing the wealthy to help keep SSA afloat. The reason it was set up in the first place was to help the poor. Look what they have done over 8 decades
Hero or outlaw? Why not both? Robin Hood broke the rules, but he did it for the right reasons. To the rich, he was a menace. To the people, he was a legend. I say both!
@@joezar33 Well, he stole the tax money and gave it back to the people it had been taken from... very relatable these days too. What we maybe would need is a Robin Hood hacker who could get to the government files and make them look like almost everybody has paid too much, and will need to get paid that back...
Sherif John raised taxes on the poor . He was related to the Biden’s and Maid Marion had 3 only fans accounts . The Church’s 10 percent tax because the serfs weren’t being sustainable .
Looking back on Robin Hood now with my vast knowledge of England, it stands out as to why exactly the Sheriff of Nottingham was such a prominent and powerful figure…I mean, every county has a Sheriff…and his was Nottinghamshire…it’s not exactly local to the capital, or even any of the other power bases of the crown. He’s not even a lord. I suppose once Robin Hood starts causing trouble, the sheriff of Nottingham is the closest authoritative figure in proximity, but it doesn’t explain his closeness to Prince John. It would be like saying in modern times, ‘The Wily King Charles III and his henchman, DCI Beckman of the Newcastle Constabulary’
If you read the traditional tales of Robin Hood, especially the older ones, King John the Usurper really doesn't play too much of a direct role. The earlier, original stories make note that Robin and most of his merry men are Saxon. Since Robin is a proud Saxon, he's also blonde, as are many of his men. Most of their vitriol was reserved for those evil, conquering Normans, who generally also had brown hair. And to be fair, the Normans were the ones controlling the island at that time, so Robin's animosity would've been understandable, perhaps even justified. I believe we have Walt Disney to thank for King John's unlikely proximity to the Sheriff of Nottingham. It made for a much better story.
Well, today Robin might very well be rebelling against corporate greed and vile, corrupt health insurance companies. He'd likely make use of social media, computer hacking skills and coding; diverting corporate funds and bloated personal fortunes into the accounts of worthy charities.
Let’s not forget it wasn’t all about the money as it was a serious crime to hunt “the kings game” especially deer without his expressed permission. Robin being the skilled archer was also a very good huntsman. Part of his outlaw status was taking game to help subsidize the appetites of his neighbors and kinsman who were so tax burdened they were left with much less money to buy food. This undermined the King’s effort’s to control his subjects & was considered robbing the King of his authority over who could legally hunt.
That's great apart from the fact Cambridge University proved that we can't prove he ws real so how you can make that claim is ......well it's a damn lie
What would Robin be fighting against today? It may not be quite a feudal system but inequality does still exist today with the obscene rich and the poor, especially in 'third world' countries and where people are working in slave conditions for such companies as Foxconn and mining.
The legends of Robin Hood and his Merry Men have been my all time favourites, but I have been sorely disappointed with all the movie portrayals of my hero. The only one that has ever stood out for me and remained the hero of my heart 💘 was and is Richard Carpenter's Robin of Sherwood 1983 television series. Robin was portrayed perfectly by Michael Praed and Lady Marion by the beautiful Judi Trott, and together they were the personifications of the Lord and Lady of the Forest, or Greenwood. I loved the magical elements and paganism that was woven into the base stories, enhanced by the enchanting music of Clannad. I own a box set of the whole series and I have watched it countless times and never grow tired of this version. No other versions will replace this one for me.
@markherron: it's the other way around; the Green Arrow is an updated version of the Robin Hood legend, which predates the Justice League by a thousand years.
Additionally, the mexican legend of „Zorro“ is quite the same stuff. And it is an important coincidence, that both Robin and Zorro belong to aristocraty: a mere commoner in their places would always be seen only as an outlaw and rebell, never as a hero. Their status of belonging in fact to the priviledged themselves, but refusing this system despite of that, is what really makes them the heroes, they are seen for.
I think the Robin Hiod legend is older and then became polarised. The Green Man and his men (coven) in the forest and ofcourse the Maid/May Queen I love the BBC series of Robin Hipd which includes Herne/Cernunoius figure To me The Best Robin Hiod

I belive he was like Jesus, an outlaw hero. the rich and powerful are represent of the church and the Jewish higharchey instilling fear and demanding their 10% +++. Anyone can be a RH (robin hood) if they stand for TRUTH and JUSTICE (like superman) give where it is needed and not care if you have to brake a few rules for the good of others. We probably have many RH in the world today and we dont even know it. I am a big fan of tech and how the movie is shot along with the score and story, directing and visual effects a +. Men in tights (as you wish) for live fun and Disney animated because I grew up with it.
@dragonflyvisions9955 I totally get how frustrating that can be. Just so you know, I don’t control the frequency of the ads, that’s handled by UA-cam. But I appreciate you watching and giving feedback.
If his words hold wisdom, and his philosophy is honorable, then what does it matter if Robin Hood was real? What is important is that we follow his example. Perhaps the words are more important than the man.
The first written account mentioning "Robin Hood" is the Sloane manuscript and it claims he was born in 1160 in "Lockersley" - now called Loxley, northeast of Sheffield and on the southern edge of Barnsdale (which is a region not a town). Pretty sure this video is barking up the wrong trees completely by suggesting Hereward, Eustace and Robert Wetherby (who is 150 years too late). There are also assize records recording prosecutions of 'Robin Hood' - the earliest of which records a fracas with a woman. Even though this is the most we can know directly from documents, the historical context tells us lots more. Before William 1st took the English throne, the north and south of England had been separate kingdoms for most of the previous 500+ years - which is why Harold had to fight a northern battle in 1066 as well as the one at Hastings. The Normans became nominal kings of a united England but in reality had great difficulty subduing rebels and bandits north of Nottingham. This is how the Sheriff of Nottingham became pivotal in the story - because its his job to keep order and collect taxes from people who do not regard the Norman kings as legitimate. It's also why the stories delight in portraying churchmen and monks as the villains - because it is the Church that installed and supports William on the throne. This context explains why Robin Hood was ever regarded as a folk hero worthy of remembrance in ballads, poems and plays. Curious fact, there was no city of "Nottingham" until after the Norman conquest, so it was a brand new base built specifically to project Norman authority further north.
Richard was not that noble He was not the romanised Walter Scott figure it wasn’t that black and white historically Which makes sensed /We are dealing with historical figures here mythologised demonise. Etc

Got to mention that the poor and Robbin hood were saxons. This is a story of discrimination against the Saxon and the Norman's (the ruling cast)
