I love giving my customers the cheapest shipping rate I can. I found that sending things parcel is the best. As a seller, you make no extra money doing this, but I think the buyers appreciate this. The flat rate legal sized envelopes are nice too. You can fit a lot in those.

I have just under 500 listings and I use flat rate shipping on about 90% of them and free shipping on the rest. I try and keep shipping cost to a minimum, I have come up short a few times, but overall it works out just fine. I have never used calculates shipping for the reasons you mentioned in your video (The cranberry Pyrex to CA for $79).

That last picker with all of your buddies was just awesome- great score on the Cabbage Patch dolls! Happy you have Sarah to back you up! Awesome profits!💰💵 Great shipping explanation! I learned everything from you awhile back! I do flat shipping a lot! I do always put or “best offer” …I do counteroffer a lot with a nice note and usually that’ll work!

I use Best Offer on a high percentage of my listings. I do receive some laughably low offers but overall I think it helps my business. I think psychologically buyers like to believe they are receiving a great deal even though the offer price they send may not be much lower than the listed price. Also if I have a quantity listing with 5, or 10, or 20 items, etc. I am usually willing to accept a much lower per item price if they want to buy a number of the same item.

My sales on eBay have been 💩for the last the last 4 months….in Jan I had a lot,of great sales, in Feb some decent ones, but since then just a trickle. I even revamped all my listings, re-comp’d everything; adjusted prices, as needed, updated shipping options (with about half a flat shipping rate, depending on weigh/class; and some free shipping-mostly media), made sure everything was listed with “Best Offer”. Fortunately, I resell for fun, not to make a living (retired military).

Best offer is turned on for all my items. I do not do free shipping at all. People say offer free shipping and just build the cost of shipping into your price. Yeah there's one major issue with that. So lets say you sell an item, the person opens a return because they just didn't like it. Well now when they ship it back to you, you have to refund them 100% of the purchase price including that free shipping cost you built into that price. Had you charged shipping you would only have to refund the actual cost of the item and not the shipping cost.

    • @profithunter777
      @profithunter777 Рік тому

Also to combat those outrageous shipping prices to half the country using calculated shipping, make sure you put 12x12x12 as your package size and then update it to the actual size when your item sells. Doing this will give your customers fair shipping prices regardless of where they are in the country when using USPS.

Twisted Metal Game: I was surprised to see the $30 game in a cracked case. It’s pretty easy to swap them or just keep a stash of empties around that were found missing the discs. You can always “harvest” a few good cases from the next low value lot you sell, swapping the $2 games into the cracked cases to keep better ones.

@@claire2d268 It has been awhile since I had any around, but as I recall the old Playstation cases work the same way as the old CD cases, as far as taking the label and disc holder portion out, to swap the label and any inserts into an undamaged case from another old playstation game. When its the front portion of the case that has the crack, I seem to recall those come off the hinge pins and can be swapped over too, like a CD case.

I personally like calculated shipping because it separates the item price from the shipping price when the buyer is looking at an item in my store, and it gives them a more up-front and realistic idea why the shipping cost may be a bit higher the further it has to be shipped. It is also a bit better for dealing with returns, and for tax purposes I think.

I could be wrong, but think you have to set up policies in order to set up the "standard shipping" mentioned at approx 7:40. This is likely the reason you can't select it from the app. I do calculated shipping and my shipping preferences are set to pass along eBay's negotiated discounted rates to the customer. Flat rate scares me and I dropped free shipping after getting burned. Good video. Thanks for what you do!

Months ago ebay stated they were going to make payments automatic with accepted offers. Still hasn't happened. I don't allow offers on anything I sell. Buy it now only with immediate payment required only. In spite of that I do occasionally get messages offering to buy something I have listed at a reduced price. My response to that is "not accepting offers". Usually I also block the originator of the message making the offer. Leaving money on the table with the best offer on all listings. eBay trained their consumers; there is no penalty not to pay. Hoping to get paid? Leaving money on the table. Attracting problem buyers and no more constant time-wasting notifications. Buyers know when they get auto-denied and keep trying. I've tried both ways, and life is so much better without it. I am trying to figure out what it feels like not to get paid. Calculated shipping is the best.

I have been selling for 26 years now and also have List Perfectly. For a long time I would start my listing on eBay and then cross list because it's what I was most familiar with. After hearing the Pro's of starting my listing directly on LP I begrudgingly made the change. It was the best thing I have done. In the notes section I always put the weight and dimensions. If you do calculated and your reducing the weight/dimensions to save buyers on shipping, then put that in your notes section. When your wife cross lists she would have that information.
I just recently went from calculated to flat rate for the reasons you stated. Not everything but 98% of my listings. I wasn't being competitive with calculated and my sales on heavier items have increased.

Out of over 2500 items listed I have zero that use “best offer”.
I had been using calculated shipping on pretty much anything over first class. I was using “free shipping” on all of our first class items but I am changing that with all new listings and most of my older active listings. They will become calculated for 2 reasons:
    1. Being a top ranked seller, I get a discount on the shipping labels (if a buyer pays $5.65 I might pay $4.42)
    2. When I send a 5% offer, the percentage is on the list price not the shipping. If an item is $20 shipped and I send a 5% offer the offer is $19. But if it’s $14.50 plus $5.50 shipping, the 5% offer is $.73 off instead of $1 off. Not only will I make money on the shipping but the discount is $.27 less.
That may not seem like much but added up over time it makes sense.

Flat Rate Shipping and Family is another good point. My wife takes pics and drafts listings, but rarely does the shipping so lacks real time knowledge of shipping costs and how each sold item is likely to ship: USPS First Class, Priority, Ground or FedEx. So each time there is a big rate change I give her a cheat sheet with weights vs the Flat Rate cost to insert. It’s as much as she wants to know and she has me check her choice as I make the listing go live in my laptop.
Like you, I’ve been doing it so long I make the choice and price without much thought and when there is a big change like Ground Advantage, do some comparison research between rates until it once again becomes routine, until the next change. It’s easier to tell someone something like: if it can fit in a Priority Padded Bubble Mailer and my label cost is $8.30. Then insert a Flat Rate of $9.79 and do that for each type of package, then have each person make different choices. Simplicity is good and the more staff, simple is even better.

Always used calculated shipping with standard weights for the smaller stuff, because the USPS charged the same anyway. Combined shipping often meant the second item shipped free. When I set a Best Offer, I always included a minumum - kept the low-ballers out of my hair. All of my stuff was rock bottom to start with and the listed price was already my best offer.

I do best offer on everything, I very rarely do free shipping because I ALWAYS lose money. Today I had a free shipping on a $13.50 video game, they messaged me with a $10 offer!! Really, why? When I already had it lower than most and free shipping, if I took the $10, it would cost $4 to ship, $3 cog, taxes and eBay, I would owe eBay money! I always give a discount, I just don’t like such low ball offers!

99% we do calculated shipping. Occasionally, I will do free shipping when my competition is all free shipping. As far as accepting offers, I get SO MANY LOW BALLERS! Got one today, my price is $35, the offer was $10. C'mon people, stop with the silly low ball offers. The main problem I have against free shipping, is I have to build it into my asking price (higher). So I set it assuming the buyer is on the West Coast. Then when I get a buyer close by, they are overpaying on the shipping.

On a low dollar deal, I’ll even offer them an even split the difference deal. Works most of the time. Had one of these deals going the other day… it was a $9 Tupperware deal ( you know tight margin item) we were $2.80 apart offered a split $1.40 we each give to the deal… No response!!!!! It was going to be shipped from PA to Fairbanks, AK…… People are nuts!! Makes me want to just throw it in the burn barrel and do the happy dance!!!!😂 Keep having FUN!

Always eat the added cost, because it’s clearly my fault. Sucks, but it’s part of reselling.

I've used FedEx and UPS for some heavy items this week and today sold a 6# box to a buyer in California (my own state) that was listed as Parcel Select at my cost of $7.70. I decided to see what Priority was and yep, $7.40! So don't always assume that is the cheaper weight, be sure to check, especially on items going within your postal zone.

If you want a good source for brand new CD/DVD/Video Game cases I can tell you who I get mine through. Last time I bought 1000's of replacement jewel cases I could get them with a new case and a new tray (either black or clear) for 15 cents a piece including shipping. I strongly recommend you find a wholesale vendor for replacement jewel cases. I don't replace all cases but if it is a rare or out of print or BOLO item I will change the case......For 15 cents you can easily demand a premium price.....And for me that is really true because I own an Azuradisc disc resurfacing machine. I also replace jewel cases for cheaper stuff because it makes it sell so much faster, they look so new.

On bigger items, I will go in and exclude Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. territories, P.O. box, and APO/FPO, to prevent me from really eating a lot of the shipping cost.

I've heard several youtube resellers talk about the customer being over charged for calculated shipping. This should not be the case. Set up your profile to charge the discounted rate, add a handling charge if you want, and then they always get changed the right amount. Also having policies that use UPS as the default shipping method for large items is important. Free shipping reinforces the misconception that shipping is free, so I won't do that. Flat rate means I have to reduce my potential sales area (i.e. territories, Alaska, Hawaii) or else risk losing money or having to way over charge on a flat rate. Flat rate provides no benefit. Note: Some say you won't see a shipping charge if you aren't signed on and it is calculated shipping, also not true. I opened an incog. browser session and I could see shipping charges for all of my items, even though I am not signed on. I know that I am late responding to this video, but had to chime in.

I then go to calculate shipping and calculate the charges to almost the furthest distance from me in the U.S. I am in SoCal so I normally use Washington DC. That rate that I come up with has never failed me for the shipping rate plus or minus a very slight calculation error for close to me or far away.

Free shipping on ALL items, no best offers, and competitive pricing. Free shipping is more attractive to people in this day and age with Amazon prime being so prominent. I accept that an item might be going across the country, and I pick and choose my items accordingly. Since I only offer free shipping, and really research prices, best offer is off the table. I believe my prices are good, all things considered, and I seem to do pretty well

Concerning free shipping ... if we are selling an item that is possibly breakable and might need to file for the Priority insurance if it were to get damaged in shipping, we will raise the buy-it-now price (to include shipping cost) and offer free shipping. That way, if we have to file for insurance we will be reimbursed the entire cost. Insurance won't pay the shipping cost if you charge for it. That way, neither we nor the buyer are out money.

My question is if you’re reducing the weight reducing the box size to show cheaper shipping to the potential buyer. What happens when that actually ships and the shipping service says it was not enough postage .
Then they go, and they take the funds or in very few cases for overpayment they return the funds.
I’m just confused how I could put in a lower weight and package size that it actually is not get hit with some kind of fee once it ships and has been delivered?

My only issue with calculated shipping is that dimensions don’t change on multi-quantity purchases. Let’s say that I have a multi-quantity listing where one item weighs two pounds and measures 8”x10”x12”. If I sell five to one buyer, eBay will charge them shipping based on ten pounds but with the same dimensions as one item. Because the package would be oversized, I then either have to pay the surcharge or split the shipment into multiple boxes. Either way I usually end up paying more in shipping than I collect from the buyer, but eBay for Business has always reimbursed the difference when asked.
