- Idea Tango - Argentine tango technique
I am sure I don’t need to tell you why you might want to improve your ochos!
It is one of the first basic steps you learn in tango and one of those steps you always execute at least once while dancing a song. Furthermore, it is the foundation to more complex movements like turns.
Thus, a proper, solid and smooth ocho technique will certainly and massively improve the quality of your dance.
In this video you are going to learn:
- 4 specific exercises for the leaders
- 4 specific exercises for the followers
- the leader’s technique to correctly execute the exercises and the ochos
- the follower’s technique to correctly execute the exercises and the ochos
If you would like to maximise the benefits of these exercises, make sure to properly check and apply the explained technique, which based on more than 15 years teaching experience! ;-)
If you’d like to learn more over a particular tango subject and the tricks to improve it, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Ciao Silvia! Grazie mille per il video! I would like to ask you this, when the follower does a back ocho, the leg that goes back, goes slightly diagonal behind the leg that is projected or it is parallel to it?
Ciao Amelia, many thanks for your comment and question! 🥰
When you stand with feet together, imagine that there are 2 lines, one along the right foot and one along the left foot. When you move your feet, and thus your legs, you always move along those parallel lines, without crossing them. Of course there are some exceptions like lady’s cross, ocho milonguero, etc. but let’s put them aside for now.
When you do an ocho like the one explained in this video, thus with a pivot + step, you move your foot along the line. This is because first you place the hips in the direction of the step then you step.
Thus the leg doesn’t go diagonal but along the straight line.
I hope it is clear enough! 🙏🏻
If not, i’ll be more than happy to have a brief chat with you 😊
