I would like to add this to my 52 blocks technique. This is more offensive than 52, there is the cross&bone to break fists in 52 blocks. TNX for the video KC.
Agreed. Punching with you knuckles is painful but in a real fight when adrenaline is high, the feeling of pain is greatly reduced. Strikes that have stopping power and blunt force trauma are better. The strikes in this video are the number 1 examples.
Most of these moves I have done with my martial art Okinawa Shorin Ryu Matsumura training...They use a lot of Okinawan Karate in MMA. But it is good to have you as a highly qualified coach for those who are new to any style of the Arts. Great training videos....Thank You..........
Good, useful instruction. Palm strikes are the go to in most self defense hand techniques. Some thing I would add is train with various footing. Outside on sketchy footing, as you mentioned. Also on carpet, hard floors. We can not predict where we may need our training. Excellent traction, vs some slippage, vs unpredictable footing. In everyday life, always good sturdy foot wear...
I especially like the elbows and open-hand strikes. My dad emphasized those to me early on and I've been practicing ever since. Great videos. Very informative and very well broken down.
I stumbled upon your videos looking for a good cardio exercise after my doctor suggested it. I get to learn something new at 50 and it's heart healthy. Thank you.
Awesome flow! I enjoy your helpful and inspiring videos. As a trained bodyguard we were taught these basics plus foot stomps as a foundation to more body manipulation techniques.
Nice explanation of headbutts as, while occasionally mentioned as potential options, I hadn't seen anyone give specifics on how to properly do it and movies generally show it wrong, so I just avoided them. As for favs, elbow strikes and hammer fist are my go-tos.
Hammer fist and open hand is the best, they generate power and speed, the hammer fist can damage the nerves in the arm and the open hand is blinding speed, thanks for the great video, good for the arsenal.
Really like your presentation I wouldn't replace any of those putting them together in a flowing manner seems like it could definitely get the job done !
Nice video! I like very much to practice in the nature, thumbs up man! I mix blade edge hands technique, with open face palm, for more efectiveness in the strike, finishing it in a fist strike.
Fantastic empty hand flow ! To be more effective, would incorporate all of it against the bad guys. Kudos to u for this practical video. You have emphasize that Kali is not only weapons. Empty hands are the "weapons" too. Please upload more empty hands training. Thanks
Great video n yes outdoor training is essential... Dark wet nights too 😁. I'd also add in stomp/push kicks to knee n groin. Plus use of the reverse elbows😎 👊
I really enjoy the hammerfist and the jabs, I would enjoy training in Kali because it seems like a very interesting and useful art. My problem is I have no one to train with. But do enjoy practicing the techniques you have shown. If you can post more vids like this one, at least I can learn something! Thank you once again!
There is plenty of Kali to train solo. Don’t neglect training because lack of a partner. I have tons of solo training videos here on UA-cam. Stay at it 👍🏻⚔️
Paul this was a great video not only do I like your 5 empty hands techniques but also how you stress training in nature, that is a huge gem of insight. As far as anything else, maybe Parry backfist
I like palms elbows knees and hammers. Whats nice about the hammers if your following Kali center videos its the same strikes used in sword sticks knives and more.
Very nice short instruction for beginners to learn the flow and gain confidence. I taped myself at the beginning and a few weeks later. Whew! What a difference. Awkward to dangerous.
I like them all, all 5 of them! Went right outside and did them all, what a workout, going to do this everyday for a workout until it gets to be a muscle memory defense and adding the sticks I’m getting
Excellent! I teach Wing Chun and JKD. It's so cool how many silimarities there are between those and Kali. I really like those hammer fists. At least the way I was taught we never really used hammer fists like that, but I'll be adding them to my arsenal now!
Love it! Even though I should have mastered the basics by now, I still see stuff to work on here. At the moment, though, my core techniques are basically palm strikes, elbows, edge hands (but not jab-like), knees, and the occasional cut kick. But my goal is always CLOSE quarters. Like, close enough that you need new body mechanics to throw elbows. So, I'm not to good with regular empty hands yet, although I'm starting to realize I need them to close the distance.
Good basics. I tend to head butt with crown and side of top of head. Principles of power are it comes from ground through the legs with any of the techniques. Also boxing back ground adds a lot of head movements as you can be countered anytime you throw a technique
Great music choice! I liked it combined with the setting. Thanks for not having volume of it competing with your voice, like some vids ive seen elsewhere!
I know from experience that elbow strikes work for me. Now, with your demonstration video in my favorites section, I will emphasize knee strikes & elbow strikes in imitation of your display, and I'll add my personal favorite, a swing kick to the crotch. Of course, I'll practice the other techniques also, but I know what happens when I dance the nutcracker suite.
I often used hard shin kicks ( opponents never seem to see this coming ) In the split sec they are pausing in pain I follow up with a back fist to side of face .Fast easy moves.
Keep up the good work. Looking forward in taking Kali and Eskrima class. Especially it is used by one of my fave DC Character. Nightwing 😊😊☺ lovelots here from philippines. Hope your channel will grow 😊😊☺☺
Imho Paul, I would replace the head butt, with a head butt using the forehead. Done it before on tight situations, that it's easier to hammer someone down with head specially if they think that they got you covered. Provided that you hit the opponent on the right spots on their head, they would definitely be getting a lot of damage. (Not an expert btw.) If there was something wrong or I simply just got lucky doing it twice, please let me know. I would gladly take that in bettering my form.
I feel all five are great to have in my arsenal but I would like an extended clearafication on the open hand jab! With a TDK background the knife hand is far from a jab! Not that it's wrong but now having tried the jab it seem bending your fingers gives you more solid hitting power + finger protection?
Hammer Fist all day and the Jab combine those two together with a flow and you have a explosive attack that it almost impossible to stop especially when you hit nerves, soft tissue (pressure points) and muscles great technique Paul. #OSU #KALI
Hi ,Paul.I am back! RONNIE here , I like the bottom fist ,like the quickness, the flow of the attack ,safety of pressure of the hands .And I like it ,cause it's a Kajukenbo attack .Live long and be happy ,my friend , Adios !
While you were hitting at the camera I was blocking you....it would be SO great if you did that more often! It is such great practice! Thank you SO much!! One day I will be able to afford your classes . You are a great instructor.
You asked for comments. I see your hammer fist technique like your stick drill technique, I like it. In Kung Fu San Soo we use “Windmills.” We use “down windmills” (fist clinched with palms facing us), and “up windmills” (fist clinched with palms facing out). In down windmills our forearm is in a plumb (upright, fist facing us) position and the upper (humerus bone, bicep) part of the arm level to the ground. We move the forearm with fist up in the plumb position across the front of our face and upper body (shoulder-shoulder) then rotate the forearm down toward the front of the groin area continuing to rotate back up to the plumb position and repeat the drill. We rotate both hands/arms alternately so when one hand guards low the other gaurds high. In up windmills the fist is facing out and the circular motion is opposite. Doing this protects the front of the body from the face to the groin area. The fist and/or arm block, redirect, strike, or capture anything in that windmill circle. In San Soo anything that looks like a block is actually a strike to cause pain and injury to redirect the opponent’s mind from hurting us to the pain and injury the opponent feels. We do windmills in a “Full Horse” stance to lower our center of gravity. We also pivot on the balls of our feet left or right, and then 180 degrees using our footwork. The idea when pivoting is to strike when pivoting to maximise the force of our strike by using the rotational force of our entire body not the just the arm. A good example when working with an opponent in front of us is to do whatever we do to neutralize that opponent and quickly pivot to strike another opponent behind us. Hammer fists are very powerful tools when backed by or assisted with rotational forces of body and footwork. If you live in Arizona perhaps we can meet up and exchange notes.
Excellent stuff sir! Would like to see more of those 'empty hand' techniques instead of the armed ones. Don't know of any channels performing that. Cheers!
I did Wing Chun most of my life, there is a lot of similarities here. But what I like here specifically is the footwork and weight shifting to comfortably generate force. Also, looks very similar to Bruce's step modified in JKD. Wonder where he got it from? 🤔
I competed in mma but was lucky enough to have a coach that worried about self defense and we would do the same combos on the pads open hand because of the chance of breaking your hand. I didn't make it to the UFC but had 14 MMA competitions but I broke my hand 4 times with them wrapped. If you learn how to strike hard your bones won't hold up. Palm striking is better! Watch Bas Rutten in Pancrase knock guys out with palm strikes.
Your video clearly shows how the weapon motions are converted to empty handed form......the first one you showed i think was empty hand form of redondo if i am right
hello my friend a been waching your videos i really like them i wanna askyou the cuestion what kind of push ups are recomende to create power and aguility in you punchs and knife mecanics pleases thank you
Knife mechanics power comes from dialing in the coordination of the knife mechanics. For punched, hit. Lots of impact training to develop power. Exercises are good to build muscle groups but you have to hit.
Thanks for watching this video. Please be sure to subscribe for more Kali training!
I would like to add this to my 52 blocks technique. This is more offensive than 52, there is the cross&bone to break fists in 52 blocks. TNX for the video KC.
Kali CenterFan Here, Have you ever heard of Pekiti Tirsia Kali???
Great job Guro Paul, always great to see you teach! thanks AJ
Avoid the closed fist whenever possible. Palm strike is much more effective. The last things you want to do in combat is break your hand.
Agreed. Punching with you knuckles is painful but in a real fight when adrenaline is high, the feeling of pain is greatly reduced.
Strikes that have stopping power and blunt force trauma are better. The strikes in this video are the number 1 examples.
Palms for the head, punches for the body
training where you have little to no control over your environment... a heightened level of unpredictability... YES. THAT is what it's about!
I'm a Filipino and I want to thank u for promoting our martial arts.. I've started to like it too. -Mike
Most of these moves I have done with my martial art Okinawa Shorin Ryu Matsumura training...They use a lot of Okinawan Karate in MMA.
But it is good to have you as a highly qualified coach for those who are new to any style of the Arts. Great training videos....Thank

I like the Hammer fist and Elbows. You can strike from any angle. Even spinning. Awesome video Paul.👍
Thank you so much Kali Center for promoting the Martial Arts of my Forefathers
Good, useful instruction. Palm strikes are the go to in most self defense hand techniques. Some thing I would add is train with various footing. Outside on sketchy footing, as you mentioned. My favourite is the knee. They're a lot of fun to practise.

Open hand slap, elbows are my favorite.

Your material is well organized. Thank you.
Nice explanation of headbutts as, while occasionally mentioned as potential options, I hadn't seen anyone give specifics on how to properly do it and movies generally show it wrong, so I just avoided them.
As for favs, elbow strikes and hammer fist are my go-tos.
Cysubtor A box cutter could stop all this.
It's easy to learn because the way you teach is step by step
Awesome. Thank you for breaking techs down into bite-sized pieces. Easy to maintain daily training rhythm, add new skills gradually.
Hammer fist and open hand is the best, they generate power and speed, the hammer fist can damage the nerves in the arm and the open hand is blinding speed, thanks for the great video, good for the arsenal.
Great video! My Kali is getting rusty, so I turned to this video for reference. Thanks Paul! :)
I liked the open hand jab the most because it's quick and strikes with the blade of the hand which is powerful
I truly like them all Paul. I will work as hard as I can to practice these skills daily.
Thank you
Bernard Lundy Jr.

Empty hand jabs and Hammer fist blows are my favorites.
Really like your presentation I wouldn't replace any of those putting them together in a flowing manner seems like it could definitely get the job done !
I like the Elbow Strikes

Thank you David. It's always hard picking 5 techniques since their so many great ones!
Thank you for keeping me sharp while the dojo was closed this past year Paul!
Excellent knees and elbows
I like palms elbows knees and hammers. Whats nice about the hammers if your following Kali center videos its the same strikes used in sword sticks knives and more.
Very nice short instruction for beginners to learn the flow and gain confidence. I taped myself at the beginning and a few weeks later. Whew! What a difference. Awkward to dangerous.
It’s pretty cool what a little training can really do. Nice work 👍🏻⚔️
I like them all, all 5 of them! Went right outside and did them all, what a workout, going to do this everyday for a workout until it gets to be a muscle memory defense and adding the sticks I’m getting
Do more of these videos please
I really like the Headbutts knees and elbows. I will also practice Hammer fist and jabs as well.
I have used a cupped hand slap to the ear a few times and it seems to work quite well.
I like ALL of the combinations!!!!!!!!
Elbows, are my faverate. A chop using the wrist , ulna and radius is very Powerful. Especially again the neck
Love it. Master the basics. My natural surroundings are cactus and rock. I prefer to practice in the grass in the backyard lol.
You're KILLING me ..and I love it. lol.
I'm so glad you made this video. I need technique.
Try following your hammer fists with uppercuts and body hook (fist) or head hook (palm)
Excellent! I teach Wing Chun and JKD. It's so cool how many silimarities there are between those and Kali. I really like those hammer fists. At least the way I was taught we never really used hammer fists like that, but I'll be adding them to my arsenal now!
Simple , effective , superb
Thank you for all your great videos !!! Much appreciated!!
Thank you for watching
Excellent video! Prefer elbows and open hand strikes followed by the knees.
Thanks Greg!
Yah those elbow strikes are great for when you're too close to land an effective hook. 💪
Love it! Even though I should have mastered the basics by now, I still see stuff to work on here. My favorite is your jab palm/chop please add 1/2 step & close line ridge hand after jab attack.

Nice. I would expand it to 10 and include kicks too.
Guba Doce Pares - London I'll be doing my top picked Kali kicks soon
Knee strikes are more Kali-y.

@Francisco Gomez.... your right, slightly bending your fingers when using the knife hand does offer better protection for the fingers!
Hammer strike is my favorite..
With the empty hand strikes I would mix it up regular jabs, hooks, and upper cuts
Great job Paul! Love it! Merry Christmas!
Very nice and very good!U r an inspiration! Thanks for putting these efforts!👌😉😊

Hey Ronnie! Good to have you back! :)
All are awesome
now this was helpful! make more street fighting techniques please
More coming in 2018!
While you were hitting at the camera I was blocking you....it would be SO great if you did that more often! It is such great practice! Thank you SO much!! One day I will be able to afford your classes . You are a great instructor.
Knees... I've found pointing your toes downward when striking generates more power.
You asked for comments.

I like everything but the head but. Probably because I never tried it. But I’ll practice.
Hell yes!!! Merry Christmas bro!!!!
Thank you. You too bro!

hi ahhh can you please create an kali with knives sticks and empty hands for left handed bacause im an left handed
Your video clearly shows how the weapon motions are converted to empty handed form......the first one you showed i think was empty hand form of redondo if i am right
One of the coolest things about Kali I think!
Hammerfisting-hitting full power while impacting with the smallest weakest bone in the hand. Open hands are more resilient.
Thank you for sharing.
I think you should add the palm stroke to the chin
Awesome great cardio
Outstanding Paul
From Centurion Academy Laredo TX
Thank you
How about a front kick also?
Good stuff 🙏 any ground/grappling stuff via dumog?
All five 👊
No pangamut open hand slap?
Cool, Greetings from Frankfurt Germany😉
I’m sold!!🙏🏿

Excellent keep it up
Watching this while practicing my grip drills I watched before this video p.s I love your vids
1 st one hammerface and 2 nd one elbow
I think these moves can be easily adapted to any aerobics, calisthenics, dancing, or physical fitness workouts to hit two birds with one stone.
You mean like capoeira.
