I like the stock round. I normally do well in the M103 without the HEATFS
I even have Talisman on this vehicle, its great! Shame that my Magach, m103 combo got fucked.
M103 is shit because it has long relosd, no stab and meets atgm/heatshit/t55am1 and Turn III And after br changes IMO even worse. Im shit but m103 is good ITSELF. But br 412D going through turret front, bruh. Now it is i think fixed but it used to be 1shot ammorack. Its good against classic rounds, aphe/ap, apcbc, etc. Heat eats it alive, along with apgsds, meanwhile it cant eeven pen such likes as t55am1 or 62m1

It underperforms compared to the real shell, and the spalling is usually bad for no reason. It’s not great.

@@hitman_zulu there is no shame in ricochet, the problem comes if you blame the ammo for your shortcomings. You probably need to work on your shoot placement. This round can kill 90% of the time in one shot, problems come with: spaa but you can use your 3 machine guns; light tanks side shooting (bmp for example, better to hit those where the crew is and not a general direction cause it might survive).
Every other target is good sport and you can easly destroy the living shit out of em with a single shot.

Agreed, used only once HEATFS on this lovely looking tank and went back straight to stock ones, they are much better. You just have to aim and not just shoot randomly.
Obj. 279 BR-482B has more kinetic energy than It.
The highest kinetic energy goes to the 140mm XM964 APFSDS-T fired by the XM291 ATACS which peaked at 25 MJ, almost 2x the kinetic energy of the M103's 120mm.

@@petrkdn8224 Who's talking about penetration? M103's 120mm M358 shot kinetic energy is 13.15MJ compared to 25MJ of the XM964 APFSDS-T.
130mm BR-482B got produced and tested in several guns, and when fired by the 130mm M-65 (Obj. 279 gun) It produced 16.7MJ.
@cimagarahau6273 tested, but not actually used in service. The m103 was in service in a tank brigade. 279 never saw service. And the 140mm ...largest caliber mbt in service is 125mm.
It's a shame, really, that the AP seems so weak. In reality, it used to be one of the most powerful conventional rounds in the world.
It really should have as much pen as or a little less pen than the IS7/Obj.279 APHE just you know without the filler

@@ICECAPPEDSKY I agree that It is lacking in penetration, but i don't think It can match the Obj. 279's 130mm gun.
The 130mm M-65 fires a 33.4kg shell at 1000m/s (16.7MJ) while the M103's 120mm fires a 23.1kg shell at 1067m/s (13.15MJ).
The 130mm BR-482B shell is 10.3Kg heavier and leaves the gun tube at a very similar speed.

Besides that, the Object 279 never went into production, whereas the M103 even saw service in the Korean War (where it turned out that it was utterly overkill because it mostly fought T-34/85s, so the old Shermans - being much lighter, smaller, and a lot more established - did a far better job).

Just wait till you have to do top tier MBTs stock grind shooting only HEAT rounds while everyone has armour that is designed to defeat it. It will make the stock M103 round and armour seem so much nicer.

Fighting anyone with ERA is a nightmare in top tier with stock heat.
As an ex BR 10, i can confirm the statement. I broke so many mouses that i just uninstalled from the amount of stress. The amount of ways you can be killed or trolled by the game in top tiers are countless. It just doesn't worth it to play

that 120mm guns AP shell was REALLY good irl should be able to ufp an IS-3 with relative ease but in game it's barely capable of UFPing a T-54 (in my experience)

I think it’s because in that BR he’s facing mostly Russian armor that doesn’t need AP rounds to pen. Most of his kills with HEAT went straight through the frontal armor without ease and one shot. He’s also facing leopard 1s that barely have any armor and heat rounds with just blast through it without ease
Bruh, the stock AP is much better than the HEAT in most situations.

@@tangent.arc38618 skill issue on your part, sit your ass down, DON'T MOVE and scan the skies as soon as you spawn in. If you're dumb enough to start moving then the spawn protection wears off quicker.
Me being the noob that i am, obviously rushed for the M103 because its 120mm gun just made my boy bits tingle.
700hr later, i dispise heavy tanks (especially above 5,7BR) and feel like the added armor and size of the barrel just make them slow and unforgiving if you whiff a shot.
I think the only tanks in the heavy category i can support is the Tiger E\H and Jumbo 76mm.
There is no point in having ++100mm armor when everyone is rocking ++300mm pen HEAT, and it really bums me out spending 5 minutes to drive to contact, only to be blown up by a flanking shot from a memelord in a squeezyboi or puma.

Honestly when I played the M48 with apcr it wasn’t that bad. What’s bad is stock AP solid shot on the American 75 and 76mm gun. Try that miserable shit if you don’t believe me

This tank was a breeze to play. Stock shell easily killed everything it penned in one shot. The M48 was the nightmare.
7.7 US is just sooooo much pain....
The tank isn’t the worst in terms of stock grind that doesn’t make it worse than any other tank in war thunder, that being parts and FPE. once you have those things it becomes much easier
Guru, big love, but the HEAT-FS shell is literally the worst of the rounds that vehicle has. Stock solid shot is far superior. Take a 70/30 ratio of both shells to maximize efficiency. HEAT-FS has its roles for the M103, but not as the first/only round choice.
