Emir Barut Think about it if you know General grievous created mass amounts of fear in the Jedi just imagine being a Padawan or a knight that’s being hunted by him and you’re playing as their perspective or you could even be playing as grievous and other people could be playing as Jedi Or you could be a Padawan that lost his light saber hiding from general ribs they can do many things with it
Mace Windu vs grievous in loe Without pausing, Grievous drew two lightsabers from inside his billowing cloak. By the time they were ignited, Mace was already on and all over the cyborg, batting away at the two blades, swinging low at Grievous's artificial legs, thrusting at his skeletal face. The lightsabers thrummed and hissed, meeting one another in bursts of dazzling light. In a corner of Mace's mind he wondered to which Jedi Grievous's blades had belonged. Just as the Force was keeping Mace from being blown from the mag-lev's roof, magnetism of some sort was keeping the general fastened in place. For the cyborg, though, the coherence hindered as much as it helped, whereas Mace never remained in one place for very long. Again and again the three blades joined, in snarling attacks and parries. Grievous was well trained in the Jedi arts. Mace could recognize the hand of Dooku in the general's training and technique. His strikes were as forceful as any Mace had ever had to counter, and his speed was astonishing. But he didn't know Vaapad-the technique of dark flirtation in which Mace excelled. To the rear of the car, where Grievous's pair of MagnaGuards had made the mistake of pitting themselves against Kit Fisto, the Nautolan's blade was a cyclone of blazing blue light. Resistant to the energy outpourings of a lightsaber, the phrik alloy staffs were potent weapons, but like any weapon they needed to find their target, and Kit simply wasn't allowing that. In moves a Twi'lek dancer might envy, he spun around the guards, claiming a limb from both with each rotation: left legs, right arms, right legs... The speed of the train saw to the rest, ultimately whisking the droids into the canyon like insects blown from the windscreen of a speeder bike. The loss of his confederates was noted by whatever computers were slaved to Grievous's organic brain, but the loss neither distracted nor slowed him. His sole setting was attack. Successful at analyzing Mace's lightsaber style, those same computers suggested that Grievous alter his stance and posture, along with the angle of his parries, ripostes, and thrusts. The result wasn't Vaapad, but it was close enough, and Mace wasn't interested in prolonging the contest any longer than necessary. Crouching low, he angled the blade downward and slashed, guiding it through the roof of the car, perpendicular to Grievous's stalwart advance. Mace saw by the surprised look in the cyborg's reptilian eyes that, for all his strength, dexterity, and resolve, the living part of him wasn't always in perfect sync with his alloy servos. Clearly, Grievous-onetime courageous commander of sentient troops-realized what Mace had done and wanted to sidestep, where General Grievous-current commander of droids and other war machines-wanted nothing more than to impale Mace with lunging thrusts of the paired blades. Slipping into the gap made by Mace's saber, Grievous's left talon lost magnetic purchase on the roof, and the general faltered. Mace came out of his crouch prepared to drive his sword into Grievous's guts, but some last-instant firing of the general's cybersynapses compelled the cyborg's torso through a swift half twist that would have sent Mace's head hurtling into the canyon had the maneuver prevailed. Instead Mace leapt backward, out of the range of the slicing blades, and Force-pushed outward, just at the instant of Grievous's single misstep. Off the side of the car the general went, twisting and turning as he fell, Mace trying to track the general's contorted plunge, but unsuccessfully. Had he fallen into the canyon? Had he managed to dig his duranium claws into the side of the car or grab hold of the mag-lev rail itself? Mace couldn't take the time to puzzle it out. One hundred meters away, the gunboat retracted its landing gear and rose from the roof on repulsorlift power. Reckless shots from one of the pursuing gunships obliged the Separatist craft to skew, then dive, with the gunship following close behind.
Really a bit if a shame that Grievous is not powerful as it should have been. It would have made him much more scary, and in my opinion if done right it could have worked out, maybe more like a one that wod sometimes toy with Jedi
Yeah, Legends actually lived up to Star Wars having hella advanced cyborgs and tech along with The Force giving it's most prominent and masterful users, godlike power and speed...
Eh, to be fair, Windu and Obi-Wan didn't really beat him, honestly. Mace was given a lucky hand on top of the train, he was able to move freely and he knew he still couldn't outright beat Grievous, otherwise he would've. Obi-Wan couldn't even see Grievous moving, he was that fast, the only reason he could block and counter was because he completely gave in to the force and let it move his body for him, becoming a conduit of the force, so technically the force itself used Obi-Wan's body to defeat Grievous.
@@silversurfer8818 That wasn't a fight, that was Grievous expecting a fight and Windu subverting his expectations by crushing him. Windu had already fought Grievous once before this encounter and he literally couldn't defeat him in a lightsaber duel, so he wasn't about to try again. Grievous expected Windu to try and get Palpatine from the ship, meaning he'd have to go past him (literally) so knowing he couldn't move from his position, Grievous prepared for a duel and was met with the force. (This is one of the only times the force is used with a strong enough application to hurt Grievous, but even a full crush by Windu couldn't kill him.)
General Grievous intends on overwhelming his opponents through speed, calculations, multiple strikes, and emotions (fear, in particular). He is definitely one of my favorite characters in the SW Universe. I mean top 5.
The original Grievous was probably the best duelist ever potrayed on screen, he was dominating multiple jedis at the same time despite not being able to use the force, even when he was training with Dooku the guy had to use force to keep up.
Not the best but (at least in legends) a strategic genius. In Canon, it wouldn't surprise me if even tusken babies would question his position as Supreme commander of the Droid army
Indeed, the likes of (Darth) Revan, Exar Kun, Anakin (without being injured by Obi-Wan), Dooku etc. would take him appart, if not with the lightsaber then with the use of the force (Hell, Windu nearly ended him!)
DreamingFlurry Yes, but I dissagree with the listed individuals. I believe Grievous could duel with Anakin and Dooku. General Kenobi is a counter to Grievous. Anakin is not. Anakin would fall, because of his aggressive fighting style. Dooku is interesting. In a video (dont remember which) someone said that Dooku fell to Anakin because his style couldn’t keep up with Anakin’s flow (i think). If that’s the case, dooku could be killed by Grievous, but only if Grievous manages to pressure Dooku so that the force isn’t an option.
@@primalaspid2843 Dooku would probably still beat Grievous, as he would be forced to abandon all defence in order to put enough pressure on the count in order to prevent him from using the Force. Anakin doesn't have much hope though.
Fans who don't know about eu: I don't even know who you are Tbh until they'll make a new adaptation or shows about that part of star wars most of the sith that get named around like him just look like edgy tryhards to me And there are so many they look all alike to me with their hoods masks black armor etc
There are a lot of characters (especially in TCW) Who have plot armor vs Grievous. There's a lot of times Grievous throws enemies on the ground with his feet or holds them up by the face with his feet and he doesn't resort to instantly cutting them down because the Jedi need to escape via writers.
I wish Gendy Tartakosky directed SW The Clone Wars just to see his ingenious tactic strategies and fightying style in a 3D space with Gendy s vision, the legends one. Grievous legends is just more artistically nice to look at, to see how he would win, in canon we will know he trashtalks the jedis, swing his 4 sabers very often and relies heavily on his army for his jedi duels
I loved in Labyrinth of Evil when he leans back on repulsors in his thighs holding Sabers in both hands and feet. Spins like a top instantly killing the Jedi fighting him. Ultimately the Tartakovsky version is the best.
The amount of people immediately going to comments to say "ObI wAn BeAt HiM sO hEs NoT tHaT gOoD" without watching the video are too dense to comprehend that the video was more telling grievous's monstrosity and skill as a duelist rather than "Can grievous beat everyone in a lightsaber duel"
@@the_gift1828 yeah it does, and many people seem to have missed the part where Kenobi had to give himself up to the force entirely to be able to do it. Had he not, and had he not been a master in the defensive form, he would have crumbled under Grievous' assault just like any other jedi would.
I kinda get what you mean. In the show he’s undoubtedly inconsistent with the movie version because the movie version really is powerful. I mean didn’t the Jedi still debate who should face him?
Yes, by telling that is brain was modified to make him think that he built himself like a cyborg while it was because of San Hill's and Count Dooku's trap. Also making him far stronger like in legends because of his training that advanced. Making him not cough anymore by modifying/improving his robotic body, another thing that can justify that he is getting far stronger than before. Take the Clone Wars 2D explanation with windu to explain why he is weak again in revenge of the sith. His organs crushed, Sidious having prepared a new body for him very weak to make him killed soon, for example. Also the jedi hate grievous, so that's logic that talk badly about him, insulting him, even if they do not talk like him like he really is. The problem: In The Clone Wars 3D, he is stupid, while in legend he was taken by dooku for the clone wars for his strategic abilities.
My favorite piece of Grievous lore that signifies how terrifying he is in Star Wars, when Vader was first shown to the Empire some people in the galaxy thought Vader was just Grievous with a new body
If you look carefully you don't see a body between the dust cloud in that scene, it is my opinion that sha'a gi used ultra instinct at that moment to evade the attack but could no longer fight as he would disturb the power balance of the SW universe.
If General grievous could use the force like a sith lord with all the abilities including force lightning he would be unstoppable. and his sith lord name would probably be Darth Grievous or Lord Grievous
@@vitorkennedy1862 Grievous could move faster than any normal being can even see, even Obi-Wan couldn't see Grievous moving because he was that fast, he prevailed Ultimately because the force literally fought in his stead. @@vitorkennedy1862 the fact that Mandalore the Ultimate was able to genuinely "fight/duel" Revan speaks volumes for how OP this Non-Force Sensitive warrior was. Something they address only marginally as often as they should is: You can never lock sabers with Grievous, if you do and you aren't ready to use the force you are already dead.
I love Grievous. He is by far the collest SW character in my opinion and I am so happy u r talking about him and his legends strength. Its a shame how he is shown in CW.
5:30 this whole point is facts, brings me back to when sidious said to anakin “I can sense your anger, it gives u focus” thinking back to all the times anakin tapped into his anger u get his greatest feats in the force and with a lightsaber, so yes focus is the key to using the force
Hey. Legends Canon Grievous is a badass mofo, and he is AWESOME. He was trained by Count Dooku to be the ultimate Jedi Killer, and he excelled at his job. But no, I doubt he is the greatest duelist ever. Dooku usually schooled him in their sparring sessions, and I'm pretty sure that Luke, Anakin/Vader, Palpatine, and especially Obi-Wan could take him down. But I CAN say this. He'd destroy Kylo Ren and ravage Rey. End of discussion.
When it comes to Dooku you have to keep in mind that Grievous was not only trained by Dooku, he was also created by Dooku (Dooku didn't physically craft him, but he was present for his construction) Dooku knows every single thing about Grievous, he knows who he was before, who he is now, all his weaknesses and everything he's made of, Dooku never underestimated Grievous because he always managed to surprise him with his abilities, Grievous by design was never meant to challenge Dooku, yet he did anyway. If Dooku didn't know everything about Grievous, including all his weaknesses, Grievous would defeat Dooku for a lot of reasons, but most notably Dooku's lack of physical ability and his arrogance, which were his same downfalls against Anakin. Grievous can learn things immediately such as tactics, combat patterns, counters etc. Other characters, force or not, do not have this ability and it shouldn't be underestimated.
@@roigergoololo3966 True, haha. Well honestly, I don't think Kylo has plot armor, he's genuinely well trained and has a lot of potential, his teacher was his uncle, Luke after all, so it's well explained. Rey on the other hand...
I wonder if grievous would have a far more difficult time fighting a darkside user because they draw upon negative emotions (such as fear, anger, envy, sadness, etc) as inspiration (for lack of a better word) to draw upon the force. So as long as said darkside user doesn't freeze up in fear or doesn't get outsmarted or physically overwhelmed I could see even someone as powerful as ventress being able to defeat him (just because she can use the force. A lightsaber duel really wouldn't fare well at all for her). Compare this to a Jedi who are taught their entire lives to be tranquility/positive emotions as inspiration to call upon the force, allowing someone like grievous to slaughter them unless they are very level headed. I also wonder if that because he got a blood transfusion from sypho dias he is able to project like a force bubble and enhance his minds' reflexes. Granted this would all be subconsciously and probably to a lesser extent than even an average Jedi knight but it would be enough to catch counsel members off guard when the get caught up in grievous's terror and just general violence of action.
Grievous dueled Maul to a stalemate on two occasions, kicking him away in one fight while getting forced pushed away while distracted in the other. He also beat Ventress and Durge at the same time in the Tartakovsky version. (TCW is honestly bullshit) We also know that Grievous would have no trouble against Savage Oppress because Savage relies on his strength to overwhelm opponents and Grievous will match him blow for blow while having greater speed, intelligence and skil. However we also see Dooku dismantling him with difficulty in a sparring session so it honestly depends on the dark side user.
1) Ventress went in rage mode and successfully used the Force on Legends Grievous. He then got up and strangled her unconscious with his bare hands. All the other Dark Jedi of the Era are simply outmatched. 2) Blood transfusions don't grant the Force. Stated by Darth Plagueis.
In canon Grievous was one of the weakest fighters. Nadar Web could beat him if not a blaster. Eeth Koth, Kit Fisto, Assaj Ventress also beats him. Gungans beat him!... lol
I remember a comic where a few younger Jedi literally reject the Jedi order and go on an assassination mission because Grievous warranted that response
@@Crackmiser Same with Palpatine no matter what some people tried to convince me. Movies Palp is a Darkside Initiate compared to overpowered Legends version
Legends grievous was epic his duel against shaak Ti, Ki Adi Mundi, Aalya Secura, Sha’gi, And K’khruk was insane I still go back and watch it from time to time. I really wish they wouldn’t have merged him but it is what it is.
Yeah, and in the old clone wars TV series (the old one before Episode 3 came out), Grievous could even shapeshift to a degree where we see him changing form a bit for different situations. Guy could also jump a fucking mile it seemed like. Overall, I love Legends Grievous. Even his voice was more intimidating. Grievous sounds like an asthmatic punk, where old Grievous sounded like a freaking monster.
Let’s be real here, if General Grevious has the force, and he was trained in the force by Dooku or even Sidious, we would be bowing down to Emperor Grevious. Because if he had that precognition of the force and the ability to throw things around, he would be able to destroy any enemy without a doubt.
I love how grievous goes into battle and the Jedi acting like there gonna have a tough fight but might come out on top then grievous grinds them into ash
@@ForsakenDreamer7 Count Dooku, the Separatist council, Ventress, Barriss Offee, the Sisters of the Night, Mandalor and the ENTIRE faction of the Confederacy of Independent Systems agree with you.
The best we got to see of on-screen Grievous was basically the basis for him in Legends, the 2003 Clone Wars Grievous. I mean, he took on 5 highly skilled Jedi, 3 of which are really well known High Council members, Ki Adi Mundi, Aayla Secura, and Shaak Ti. Bro really is an absolute menace, a Jedi-killing machine, ad absolute *unit!*
@@AJDOLDCHANNELARCHIVE He knows all lightsabers combat styles from memory, he could even replicate the style Mace Windu used from seeing it for a while and he adjusted his strategies during battle. What do you consider to be "skill and technique" if not precision, consistency, power, speed, knowledge and strategy?
@@ForsakenDreamer7 Maybe in Dave Filoni's fantasy of "The Clone Wars". But in George Lucas' Star Wars Mace Windu would demolish him and certainly not compliment him in the interim.
Also, I think the idea of a Force Sensitive Grievous was likely scrapped in-universe for fear of making him too powerful. This could lead to the war being imbalanced in favor of the Confederacy, and it could also potentially have made him harder to control.
it might have something to do with the fact that before the scene in ROTS Anakin never once encountered Grevious and therefore only knew about him from the stories of the "Monsterous jedi killer Grevious" that he had heard and most likely came to the conclusion that Grevious must be a giant.
I love the Star Wars: Clone Wars 2003 volume films for their legends portrayal of the characters, the two films remind everyone just how amazing all of the characters were before legends was labeled uncanon. Check them out for those who’ve never seen them, especially where Grievous and Mace Windu are concerned.
Even if Clone Wars 03 was being dramatic it wasn't very far off the market since Old Republic lore has Jedi Knights falling from orbit unscathed, Sith Lords soloing worlds, alien races that'd Force WH40k's Empire of Man to come over and purge, and Eldritch Horrors that'd cause Lovecraft fans to nut...
Grievous was an assassin, he struck fast and hard for if he ever relented the force (if it connected) is a trump card for the stronger users as they essentially get a free kill. Despite a glaring weakness in the force he was one of the top tier dualists without a shadow of a doubt. What do you think would happen if Vader and Grievous met? Comparing sabre collections? Btw love your analysis, keep up the work!
Whenever i think of Grievous i think of the animated clone wars episoded that were made by the people that created samurai jack he legit gave me nightmares as a kid and watching him again as an adult makes me feel how truly badass he was.
Legends Grievous was my favourite character is Star Wars. His design was unique and intimidating, his backstory was sympathetic and sad, his personality was brutal and ruthless but effective, the threat he posed was very real to most characters present and the way his strength and weaknesses was based around not having the Force was a good idea. Having something or someone that could best Jedi without the Force was amazing because it showed there were other paths to power, but his use of lightsabers was also interesting because it seemed to flaunt the exclusive nature of the Jedi. And Canon Grievous is boring, cliche, weak and ineffectual. I didn’t mind his appearance in Revenge of the Sith because it wasn’t His movie. But yeah I’d put him as a top tier duelist because of his technical skills and track record.
I think there is something missing if we are talking Legends, there was a very short series also called "Clone Wars" that was released in 2005 just before Revenge of the Sith. This series showed some of the Obi Wan/Grievous history, even before Grievous takes the form we are familiar with.
I agree that the movie Grievous is a pretty good middle ground for Grievous in both continuities. Especially as a Legends fan since he was severely wounded by Mace Windu pretty much right before the start of the movie his decreased prowess and inclination to flee make sense. He didn't have his original advantage anymore and was still following his teachings to retreat when he thought he couldn't win. Not to mention like you said Obi Wan kinda hard counters Grievous and in Legends the two never fought prior to the film so it makes sense that Obi Wan could defeat him.
Great Video 👍. I would like to Hear the Two of You along with Echkartsladder, and Star Wars Theory have discussions like these on the Top Characters of Star Wars.
That would be such a legendary dual, similair like Dumbledore against Grindelwald. Two extremely skilled swordsmen at their prime. Both channeling the darkside in their fight. Windu with his Vaapad. Dooku with his form 2 with the ideal lightsaber hilt. Without using the force, it would be epic
@Xeta Obi Wan and Anakin killed Dooku. The fact that Kenobi was taking a nap through the second half of the fight doesn't mean that count didn't waste his stamina to remove him. And yeah, he's defeated Kenobi. Who, in turn defeated Anakin. So no, your logic is fatally flawed. Not to mention that it's stated in Legends for Dooku and Yoda to be the ones above Windu as lightsaber duelists. Also not to mention that Mace and Dooku have already fought on Boz Piti, and Mace didn't show anything impressive that time around.
Grievous was outfitted to kill Jedi and even Siths alike, he counteract and adapt to everything a Force Sensitive would spend years to learn in an instant. The only thing that they possibly have over him is the force itself, but even that isn’t enough to beat him, the countless Jedi’s he slaughtered are a testament to that. The main reason why Obi Wan Kenobi has been able to do that is due to experience and doing thinking outside the box, pulling strategies and tactics that he wasn’t outfitted to deal with. Qui Gon Jin taught him to not do everything as he is told or trained to do, and adapt and overcome.
Definitely agree here. Legends Grievous is an absolute BEAST. The issue is trying to explain his very first scene from the original Clone Wars Series is often met by legitimate disbelief from most people who’s only seen the movies. . I would argue that Grievous could legitimately walk into the Jedi Council Chamber and quite feasibly kill every single master there (minus Yoda, Windu and Kenobi for obvious reasons) if he got the drop on them. . As a side note and question, what thoughts do you guys have on Kit-Fisto vs Grievous in the Clone Wars canon tv series vs what would have happened if the same fight had played out using the Legends versions of the same characters??

Mace couldn't take the time to puzzle it out. One hundred meters away, the gunboat retracted its landing gear and rose from the roof on repulsorlift power. Reckless shots from one of the pursuing gunships obliged the Separatist craft to skew, then dive, with the gunship following close behind.

The Clone Wars is an almost perfect show. The treatment of Grievous is one of the big reasons it’s an “almost.”
The 03 series my friend🤙
Well, I think there're several other issues in TCW.
Really a bit if a shame that Grievous is not powerful as it should have been. It would have made him much more scary, and in my opinion if done right it could have worked out, maybe more like a one that wod sometimes toy with Jedi

Legends grievous for life man. He made such an impact when he first showed up in the first clone wars series.

@@an0rangutan Windu did force crush his chest, which gave him his cough!
(This is one of the only times the force is used with a strong enough application to hurt Grievous, but even a full crush by Windu couldn't kill him.)
within legends how many even got that against grievous? he was unstoppable. it took a lot to beat him, canon not so much

The Best Non Force Sensitive Duelist In All Of Star Wars for sure but not the best in general
Sam Guevenne was just about to say that 😂😂😂
Not the best but (at least in legends) a strategic genius.

Grievous's feet are deadlier than his lightsabers
There are a lot of characters (especially in TCW) Who have plot armor vs Grievous. There's a lot of times Grievous throws enemies on the ground with his feet or holds them up by the face with his feet and he doesn't resort to instantly cutting them down because the Jedi need to escape via writers.

When it comes to Dooku you have to keep in mind that Grievous was not only trained by Dooku, he was also created by Dooku (Dooku didn't physically craft him, but he was present for his construction)
Dooku knows every single thing about Grievous, he knows who he was before, who he is now, all his weaknesses and everything he's made of, Dooku never underestimated Grievous because he always managed to surprise him with his abilities, Grievous by design was never meant to challenge Dooku, yet he did anyway.
Wrong. Rey and Swolo would annihilate Grievous through force plot armor!
2003 Grievous beat Ultra Instinct Shaggy. Not even _they_ have a chance.

So glad you went with Legends

Legends Grievous is impressive for dealing with the Jedi because in Legends the Jedi are so powerful that an entire army gets destroyed

I trained you well !
I really like these kind of videos!

I would argue that Grievous could legitimately walk into the Jedi Council Chamber and quite feasibly kill every single master there (minus Yoda, Windu and Kenobi for obvious reasons) if he got the drop on them.
