@@MatthewHoag77 Yes I certainly do! There is a campaign going on among farmers to get one AG channels over 200k subs. Just now HFW 198432 and MF 199684. MF took the lead yesterday.
🌸 *Hello How Farms Work* We are French farmers and we like to watch after others farms videos, because everything is different, especially in America. I can imagine the atmosphere and the smell of this big garage, full of dust and pieces of oat and rest of corn...and oil and fuel ! I know this perfectly! it's the sam eall over the world I think 🍾🍷🍇 Greetings from French farmers 🍾🍷🍇
When I subscribed to this channel it was to gain insight on the daily workings of a farm in this day and age, added bonus, maintenance and repairs to a truck that will serve you well in the years to come, it's a farm truck, not an over the road hauler. Several years from now you will have great memories of these days spending time with your Dad and family working these farms. Happy New Year!
Your dad is a smart man. Experience and hands on are the best teachers. You are gaining a lot of knowledge about your semi that will be with you for your lifetime.
I use a 2 wheel dolly to remove and put the hubs back on. No picking up those heavy drum's. There's a couple videos on youtube showing it done. And taking the wheels off and putting them back on. Use a tire spoon, it saves your back. And makes the job so much better.
With an older truck these repairs are to be expected. I've bought cheap trucks thinking I will get by not spending money immediately on repairs but eventually these repairs come. I've bought other trucks that I've paid more thinking these repairs won't happen as soon but they can. The only trucks I've not had problems with are new. And this is because I'm a fanatic about maintaining them. And who drives them. Who ever has bought my trucks got a good deal. Looking at you open shed and dirt floor makes me wish for you that some day you close off a part of this shed cement the floor and insulate it making a decent place to work on equipment. Happy New Year to you and your family.
Good job fixing everything you can, it’s not just your life you are protecting it is all those around you. Now you will be able to do a more comprehensive inspection before each season starts. You will feel much better when you know everything is in good shape. Keep up the good work. Happy New Year to the crew.
Ryan as a 17 year old thats planning to be a first generation farmer your channel has been a big part of my choice for my life career. You have shown me how and what it takes to run a farm. Thank you
I miss working with my Dad. Enjoy it... hey Incase you didn’t do it make sure you put a little gear oil in that cavity before you close it up like someone mentioned. I almost wrecked a truck once losing a bearing from that. I didn’t splash up there like I thought it would. Maybe a good time to check the level of your rear ends too. Good luck Ryan.
It seems your Dad has a lot of knowledge and mechanical ability always a good thing if you're a farmer. Good that he's passing that on to you and your brother.
Good video ! You're learning why some folks sell their trucks ! There isn't any " off season " when you own one ! When they're not on the road, they're in the shop so they can stay on the road !
Hey, you guys are doing good job. This is what I do for a living, It really is not to bad. I just always make sure everything is clean because everything goes back together that much easier. In our shop we have the machine that cleans all the parts, but on the road we just use a bucket with a little regular gas and it wipes everything just as clean. Buying all those cans of cleaner can get a little expensive. Happy New Year to the whole family and Wishing a wonderful 2019!
You're better off just replacing all the seals and bearings, since you were already there. Be careful with those brake cans, if you've never seen one blow itself apart, it can be quite the scare. Had one come apart on a trailer and hit the truck, sounded like a shotgun. Yes, get the tools and by the way, save your backs, use pry bars to install and remove the tires. Just need a block and pry point, so much easier putting the wheels on an off. If you're going to do it, do it right the first time. Take your time, it's an easy job but, if you've never done it before, can be quite "interesting". Cheers :)
Have you ever seen the movie "The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks and I believe Teri Garr? Trucks can be the same as houses! It's nice , though, to be able to do the labor yourself. Nice video Ryan, Travis, and Dad! Happy New Year and blessings on the coming crop year guys! Regards, Ron
Good job of getting it done using what you have. On the dirt, in a non insulated shed, salamander in the background. Keep up the good work. Another good thing is you have video of how it came apart when it comes to putting it back.
Hi don't forget to clean out the diff breathers on top of the back axles if there blocked it will blow the new seals out as soon as you start to use truck .all the best for 2019
Working on equipment in cold weather make things that more challenging. When I farmed, I didn't have a heated shop to work on stuff in the cold. Kudos to you and your family for toughing it out, getting the job done and saving tons of $$$ in the process. Happy 2019 Ryan!!
Helpful tip to getting the back bearing and seal out of the hub.. before you pull the hub off of the spindle thread the first smaller nut back on he spindle (after removing the washers and bigger nut) and then grab the hub and pull out and down at the same time. As you pull the hub off the nut will catch the bearing and seal and pop it out of the back. It’s much easier than trying to pry the seal out of the hub!
Also Lucas oil additive is worth its weight in gold I put it in all of my trucks engine oil, trans oil, and rear end oil.. every service I put 2 gal in the engine oil.. and you will go through those axle gaskets like crazy! I’m not a fan at all of using silicone on trucks for gaskets but the axles is one of the few places I use it! It will save you a lot of headache using it instead of the axle gasket. Also more than likely (obviously I can’t say for sure because I’m not there to look at it like you are) but most of the time on s cams if they just have slop in them you will only need to replace the s cam bushings not the entire s cam!
it look like your dad and you are doing it the right way by replacing all the parts that need to replaced it it nice to see people how do it right the first time
This has been a learning experience for me as well. Just watching your videos, I am picking up more knowledge about heavy trucks that I would ever learn on my own. I don't need it for work purposes, but in terms of being able to understand what a trucker or farmer is talking about, which helps me relate on a certain level. Thank you. Happy New Year, Kusters!
Your Dad knows his way around the big rig block. It's great to see you both bringing big red back to life and safety standards. Good luck at the scales. Now to have China buying again and prices rise to begin the return on investment process. Happy New Year.
when you pulled that brake drum and it went right to the ground I was reminded of what happened when I pulled the rear brake drum off my F600. they got some weight...
Yes, it is fun working on a truck in Wisconsin around Christmas. In Texas our mornings are much warmer! I guess 8 degrees lows here are warmer than WI. I bought one for over $50,000 and it needs work again because rocks broke the front and rear window, Pothole roads messed up two tires. It never ends except for the other truck I hired, he went back home.
Great video, very educational! I'm glad you guys are learning a lot and able to keep the costs down by doing it yourselves. Happy 2019! looking forward to 200k!
thx for another nice video. Enjoying everyone of them ! Thx for your wishes and I wish you and your family my best wishes for 2019 and a very healty year also !
Ryan, your videos are killer, you do such a good job, keep up the good work and make sure Rocket stays in line. Merry Christmas/Happy New Year from Houska Farms to Kuster Farms.
Wow! You really did get a good deal on those air bags! On my Flatliner I priced air bags from $227 to $130. This was a year ago. I bought the $130 ones, of course. Blew one on the road about 10 years ago and I paid a shop $350 to put one on. Much cheaper to do it at home.
You doing all of the work on Big Red is also giving u a lot of experience with the truck so if something goes wrong u should know it right away of what it is
You know its funny to watch someone learn i guess I was the same way but I ended up having 10 trucks i could do the drive axle all 4 wheels little over a hour don't worry you will learn after you spend a lot of money lol

Ryan your Dad is a wealth of knowledge! Learn from him!
I bet your dad is proud of you. Having a son who listens, learns, and works hard is not so common.
I like the fact that I've never seen any of you look in a manual. Your are the type of guys that just knows how to fix things, aren't you? :)
Our fathers are our best teachers.
Although you may not know it now...Days like this working with your dad will bring back fond memories.
Boy, you couldn't be more right about that one...! It's what life is all about, making fond memories!
My dad passed away 2 weeks ago anything you can do with your dad do it because we don't last forever
Nice to see someone in SW Wisconsin doing well on UA-cam! Good job guys!!!

his knowledge probably been gained the hard way .....!
Oh fun fun. I cannot even guess how many axle rebuilds, brakes, seals, shocks, bags, chambers, slack adjusters, s cams, s cam bushings, I’ve done.
Ha yeah my pap has been working on and driving trucks for all of his life but hey someone has to do it
Yes. Get the sockets for the hubs.
Get it rolling and head to Florida for the winter.
Wow that's a good deal for the air bags,
I love listening to your dad. He is so knowledgeable. A great teacher

They're doing a great job the seal didn't even get on the shoes that's a blessing.
Gear oil isn't even on the shoes or the drum.

Few things in this world are as much "fun" as drum brake shoes. :-)
Happy 2019 to you and your family Ryan. Yes these older trucks are cheap to buy but there is always maintenance take care see ya next time
