Montoya, coming out of open wheel racing in F3 then F1, registering fastest ever lap at Spa (record still stands), which is 200mph in a tiny, super light, super dangerous open wheel series is someone who knew you had to an adult. Which mesns he gives people room and is no Tony Stewart.
He made mistakes in these big, 3500lb monsters but the amount of butthurt guys who didnt like him joining series was ridiculous.
Fans, who should know better, joined in. He was brave to take the drive, going on Talladega with zero experience and guys wanting to bully you?
He proved his point. He won in an F1 car Harvick wouldn't have got out pit lane. He went into Indy snd won big. Harvick, like Stewart, has been the 'bad guy' more often than most. I think he needed to show he wouldn't just keep getting rolled over.
I hoped at the time that NASCAR fans would like an F1 winner coming to their series. I hoped the drivers wouldn't act like fans. But at times it was pretty cringe.
However, it was good for NASCAR, brave of Montoya BUT i do wish he'd been given opportunity to go to McClaren because it was clear thst he was far, far quicker thsn rich boy drivers who brought money into the team but not the speed. He came from nothing and, like Lewis Hamilton, we should always celebrate when somebody without connections, without money, makes it in motorsport because they're fast.
NASCAR gained a great driver who was missed in F1, especially 07 to 10

No one ever even mentioned or showed McMurray getting wrecked. You can see him spin at 1:06

Well, this is an old comment, but I still remember the situation. i agree, Harvick had every right to be mad at Montoya, I honestly think he makes some very poor choices. However, it might have been a bit more effective if he would have done that in a situation that was montoya's fault, if anything atleast not one that was his fault. Harvick screwed up once and montoya twice. Fair enough. I understand his anger of the past, but this was just embarassing to say the least.
