- Not to be confused with the stiff-legged deadlift, the Romanian Deadlift starts at the top and uses a stretch reflex. Mark Rippetoe explains how to do it.

Mr. Rippetoe's hands always look like he's about to quick draw some pistols
He is. A good weight lifting coach shoots first, asks questions later.
Fuck around and find out, yankee.
Revolver. .44 Mag.
He is a texan
😆🤣
i love every video that shows me how to do something. but the reason this video is a winner is because it also tells me HWAIYY i should do it
Coach Rip apparently has mastered the Reverse Vacuum
the airhorn
insulin.
the valsalva maneuver to the extreme
85passthru are u being serious??
no...insulin causes bubblegut in bodybuilders...
Pretty sure my favorite coach, hands down, is Mark Rippetoe. I should have watched this video a long time ago but I'm glad I now have the info. :)
Awesome as always.
I needed to program a light pulling day and had been using light deadlifts, this video reminded me that there are other useful variants.
Hope to see more videos of the other useful assistance exercises from the book.
Perfect instruction...thanks gentleman!🙏
very informative coach
Eric Yim you the same guy?
serio
I wonder why Rip is making new videos of old videos. Not that I mind. Great video.
$
Because people are too lazy to look through his channel for the old ones, and because he is probably trying to increase the quality of his videos.
Because new information comes out? Duh
that's a much better video than the one recorded 7 years ago, the camera angle is much better and the theory seems a little stronger as well.
Thanks very much for this no nonsense video
The Professor Agreed.
Thanks Rip
Should totally do a Push Press tutorial
Should we try to keep our shins vertical or can/should they travel backwards (obviously not forewards), for more hamstring stretch?
SUBSCRIBED!
Legend
I keep feeling it in my lower back facets, how do i breath/brace for it?
The Basic one is this but a Fundamental one is done on a short platform ??
Needs more Hehp drave
HEHP DRAAAHVE!
What breathing should i use during this exercise ?
Should I hold it while bending , or exhaling inhaling ?
skan8 brace at top hold through rep release at top then reset
when I hold my breath while bending , I get too much preasure in my head , and it feels like I am gona passout.
You don't need to take a super deep Breath just enough so you can squeeze your abs try doing vacuums they will help train your bracing.
it hurts my head If I hold my breath going down , regardless of the amount of breath ,It helps If I keep letting the air out a tiny bit when I go down , I know its wrong. That's why I made a question to get some ideas.
Almost sounds like you have high blood pressure/hypertension I use to have bad cdl and high blood pressure and it gave me a headache and made me dizzy to hold my breath at all
First comment wooooo! Starting Strength made my wife leave me
xXEvangelXx two for one!!!
Congratulations, nobody there to complain about the protein farts.
let me guess, she caught you copulating with a jug of raw milk...in a squat rack?
...I made your wife leave you
@@jehkjshrfk you wish virgin
the how and hwhy
The goal being EEL enhanced eccentric loading.
whYYYY
2:03 why is there a lot of powerlifters with their legs turned in like that?
What he means is that Chase's shin bones are not parallel, but get closer to each other from the ankle to the kneecap.
I don't think that's necessarily a feature of power lifters or a good thing. He's knock kneed, and toes angled out hard
It's all good but the overextended lower back, it should be neutral
Chase Lindley looks exectly like how a Nordic god is drawn in a comic.
I wonder how much the Engineers from Prometheus can Romanian Deadlift.
Why do all weight lifting shoes have to look like orthopedic corrective footwear
Folks were not exercising right or even correctly so they had ankle and toe base issue. The skin on the bottom is perforated IT needs a BALM not oil and Northern/Eastern conditioning with gentleness.
I'll get that second comment now too.
Damn, you are on a roll.
How does this differ from a stiff legged deadlift thanks
Because SLDL comes off the floor and covers full range of motion
Strong beer gut on Rip
I don't know but those hands shake alot
Whether the video is 3 years old or 9, nothing much changes.
If they are the same subject matter
You can’t unless you are Romanian
rip hates all deadlift variations 😂
That’s wrong. You will injure your lower back when you do it like this.
Don’t arch your lower back. Keep your spine neutral and brace. Don’t pull from your lower back. Initiate the movement with your hips.
Light day pulling volume
This guy dresses like a carpenter but I’m pretty sure he sits behind a computer all day..
He benches more than you can squat
Can you do seated dumbbell shoulder press form
You must be new here.
Haha
Lohe221 why the “haha?”
Stevie Alexsoski
If you read the book you'll understand the "haha" comment.
its not the kind of exercise he would teach, thats all
Lmao why is there negative 20 pounds on the bar?
The hips don't follow all the way to extension meaning he does lumbar Hiperextension what not good under tension. Second point he is stuck in thoracic flexion which will also cause a ton of problems with time. Any questions?
Ivan Sunara shut the fuck up
road king are my words to complicated for you? Ill dumb it down for you: You big man not be, break spine you will
Ivan Sunara unless your total is over 1500 you can't tell this man shit. You are trying to correct a man that has been coaching world class powetlifters for 40 fuckin years.
you' re right about the hips not extending fully...his thoracic spine is fine though, he just sticks his head forward imo.
onceuponthecross1 why do you think that. It's physically impossible to have a posterior pelvic tilt and forward head without thoracic spine flexion. I would have to disagree with you
