Using a DOD250 reissue into a Wampler Pantheon. The pre amp adds the top end sizzle but not very gainy. I don't get the Yngwie sound exactly but I get something close and unique. Cleans up with volume. I think you'd dig on it. Love the content and playing. Thanks, Elmo!!!!!!!!
I have an outlier modded dod 308. Outlier was a guy on the metro amp forum years back. I had mine with a smaller input cap to tighten it ever so much and it's incredible. Very organic extension of the amp with humbuckers. Thanks for reviewing these clones, o wanted to try one for fun but will look elsewhere. Anyone who has a clone that sounds too dark or bass heavy, look at swapping the input cap.
This is one of the very few channels that I click "Like" even before watching because I know already that I'm going to like the content. I want you to know, Elmo that we appreciate you even if some of us are too poor to do anything much but hit "LIKE". Keep on keeping on; Don't stop for anything !!
Fender seemed the tightest, not as fizzy. Found one on Reverb for reasonable, they are getting stupid expensive in the states. Appreciate your videos, a Schenker/Moore fan in a nutshell, you keep I entertaining, great playing!
I enjoyed the overdrive/dose. I know of a place that has some New Old Stock Yngwie pedals, but for some reason, they haven't posted them yet. I suspect they might realize that these are now Unicorn Farts and put them on Reverb instead. Not sure I could blame them. Given the prices those commend, the Riverside seems like a better modern choice. Or if you aren't a fumbler with a soldering iron, grab a kit. Wish there was a way to tune one via a "recording" that had all the min/max settings, so you know your extremes. One would would think that some tech and a lookup system could really help folks get "that sound". Thanks Elmo, this is among your avowed knowledge set, so you sharing it gives an excellent sense. One option, though not likely in your style, is to do one run on the guitar into a looper and feed each pedal in turn to hear the differences.
This is the only comparison I've seen where the presenter goes back and forth between the different pedals so you get a real comparison between each one. I dunno why other channels tend to think after we've heard 3 pedals, we'll still remember all the details by the 4th... Kudos. This was interesting.
I have the ODD Overdrive preamp 741 and I actually like it with a plexi and HS3 pickups. My gain and level on it are always at 3 o clock. I also have the fender YJM overdrive and it sounds very different in comparison. I like both pedals. The switch on the ODD overdrive makes it versatile for me.

Thats a lot of overdrives to take in, also knowing they'll sound different in real life but you did a good job showing the differences. I personally like your normal overdriven sound I think its by Fender, you know the red one you always use . Some sounded muddy , some had that overdrive break up . it was a good gear vid non the less. By the way what gauge strings do you use ?
@@MrPolevaulter I actually got to try the Styrmon recently & I wish I hadn't , there's so many reasons to buy it I think I will by one . I haven't bought a pedal in years but the Styrmon is like three pedals in one hence the price. See what your videos do they make me spend money hahaha . Take Care
Well....... because of you I searched the whole wide world of Sweden.... and at last! I found a used yjm308, I payed like 39 euro including shipping. But I haven’t tested it yet🤷♂️
As I dough a bit about the DOD 250 because it's back in stock again. I heard that there is no grey spec DOD cause all of them sounds different. I was listening to Josh Scott from JHS today. Anyway there is a interesting story about the pedal and I might buy. Don't look inside the box, it's almost empty.
Great video! I think the DOD250 reissue and the Analogman mod YJM308 were mostly used by Yngwie with the DiMarzio HS3 pickups and sound a bit darker with more modern pickups. I think the fender YJM sounds best with newer pickups like the YJM Fury. Just my preference, really cool to hear all of those side to side or back to back or back to side. Also another good option for a grey spec pedal is Chicago Stompworks Gray Speck OD250 which is nicely build good sounding pedal.
I ordered the Chicago Stompworks one, it arrived, I tried to pay the import charges, there was a bug in the system, and I never got it. Thank you to the Finnish border authorities.
I have been doing mods for this particular circuit, I had a cloned pedal with "grey" specs and I did not liked, my goal was to get the "more is more" type of sound, by investigating further, I discover how to extend the distortion range, on basically any DOD 250 type pedal, even the original grey pedal can get a "boost", instead of replacing chips, the goal is to create a pedal who can do what the vintage ones do and also get close to a distortion pedal, I copied this idea from other modders, I'm perfoming this simple mod on all my DODs now and future build ups, those Dimarzios are going to "scream"
i also have a mosky pedal where the switch is broken. daemon tubescreamer clone came with a broken switch aswell. the cheap pedals have a thing with broken switches.
It would be useful to know how you are setting these units level and gain controls for the demo. Are both controls all the way up? Is there any information on how Yngwie sets them? I use my DOD YJM primarily as a boost, with the level all the way up, and the gain brought in about one third. Cheers~
Can we all agree about the white elephant in the room? BOSS needs to make DOD 250 Grey with LM741CN chip, I mean they did Sola Sound Tone bender fuzz (who plays fuzz, anyways) and they also did a collab with JHS -so it's not impossible, the thing is, not many people play tube amps, and even less people play genres which would suit DOD 250 grey well (you could play old school heavy metal, blues, hair metal, etc with it) but I really doubt how it would fare paired with proper humbuckers like Evolution or PAf Pro or Super Distortion which are all very high output pups... but Boss could do it, DOD 250 is the first hard clipper (some claim MXR dist plus is but it's debatable, anyhow, silicon clipping in DOD is much cleaner and articulate than germanium clipping which MXR has) ... in other words, we have to pester YOshi during live BOSS' live streams on FB ps. I have DOD 308 original and it works okay with my ORigin 50c, and I also snatched one Fender Yngwie for 60 euros (I got lucky) but the thing is - Fender Yngwie has even more UPPER MIDS and GAIN than DOD308 (both pedals are UPPER MID boosters, so have that in mind when tweaking your Mid knob on Marhsall amp, especially SV 20, SC20, ORigin as they inherently have too much UPPER MIDS and Treble by default - not the case with 1987x or the older Plexis) so it makes my Origin 50 squeal and it's unusable and I'm going to sell it. Super Overdrive is a great alternative but , in my case, it lacks a bit clartiy on low E and A strings when alternate picking those there's this french guy Guillame - check out his vid, if you have the right amp and EQ it up properly, then DOD250 and SD-1 should sound pretty close to one another > ua-cam.com/video/xpbwJtvCBF8/v-deo.html

To make ANY DOD 250/sound like a Malmsteen...you change the input capacitor from .01uf to .001uf ...which gives you a tighter bottom end...that's it.
