That's nearly perfect sailboat design. Make sure the bow is deepest point between the mast and forestay. Then the keel line stem to stern academic keeling design reduces heeling over and increases the speed of the boat. Strengthen the mast and you are approaching a perfect sailboat design.
Nice! We found that we lost a little steerage when close-hauled too far over with ours, but it never felt too bad as she seemed to balance reasonably well. I guess with the shape of the hull, the "corner" presented to the water at that angle steadied her a little. Anyway, on account of this, we tended to reef early and enjoy a comfortable (if slower) windward trip with better wet area on the rudder(s)
Very interesting to see the McGregor up close, and you put together a sharp video of the launch, if you have down time from the wood flooring, your vidios could sell boats, the 26 looked good Wane seemed happy, and the coast gard not required on the day. I am envious of the boat ramp.
Funny thing but I had been thinking the same thing. It worked well with my trailersailer my videos made her famous and she went to a good home without any sales strategy whatsoever! I've done a fair bit of video marketing, just not on boats. So if there is anyone out there wants to sell their boat and thinks a video might help, I'm available! It could be done remotely too.
Around 3:30 you talk about the water ballast tank plug! That plug is a standard drain plug for any small fishing boat sold at any hardware store. After the plug is inserted into the hole, you lift the metal handle straight up and that will expand the rubber seal in the hole from the other side. Tape added to make it seal better will to stop this plug from being forced up and out with added water pressure to the water end of this plug.
+s v watercolors the is for that. I see now there must be a rubber tube that compresses. It is missing maybe perished. I will pass this information on to the owner.
A bit of forestay tension would help a bit too. 5.5 knots in a boat of that length is pretty respectable. I reckon it would be great for the Murray Darling system, not mention a trip up to Lake Tinaroo. Not to forget Lake Kununurra. I'm almost convincing myself to buy one.
Its a cruiser and you weren't rigged for speed. You should count yourself Lucky to get 5 knots lol wasn't too strong a breeze . ? Beats the hell out of working. Lol
Great boat! A very usable vessel for all bodies of water.
+Randy W Horton not everyone's cup of tea but they have their place.
Love your video Chris thanks for the help on my channel.
My pleasure Coop. You’re a star. 💫
Very nicely done
Thank you very much!

Interesting analysis. User error being unfamiliar with the water ballast setup did not enhance the experience for us.

I agree sailing this boat within comfortable margins and reefing early is the way to go.

Definitely sheltered waters best. Huge comfortable living space. Grey nomad boat.
Nothing more important getting your water ballast locked in. That's how people get killed on these boats.
I can see that would be an issue.
you still got it? all i see is dinghy videos after this one.
It is owned by a friend. I don't think he's been out since. But hopefully will do another.trip With him sometime.
I'm concerned that he could not even figure out the simple bung and water ballist, is he an accountant or dentist.?
IT guy. The rubber had perished on the bung so it was never going to work.

Sure does. Lots of work to be done on the tuning.
