As Denmark and Sweden are mentioned when talking about Beowulf, why not talk more about the ancient cultural connections? Look at finds in the three countries and investigate how they relate. (I so wish Time Team could do a dig at a known burial site from Vendel-time.)
You know, I watched the main vid yesterday but after saying "wow blimmin wow" we never actually get told what the large cuboid of clay that was lifted held. We're left to *assume* that it's part of the bucket but it's never actually said.

I might be an American, but I'll tell you this... Time Team got me through the pandemic. I watched all 20 years of episodes, and thanks to that, my idea of heaven is one of two things. A baseball game on a sunny afternoon, or an archaeological dig in Britain. God bless those who have left us, and best wishes to all who remain.
When I was young, I dreamed of going on a dig, using a little brush and trowel to gently brush away soil to clean artifacts. I have that kind of patience.
It's been on 20 years? And not a single episode has ever been shown here on the US network PBS, which features loads of UK shows. I have a lot of catching up to do.
Good luck to the other nominees???? They can all get stuffed! Time team is the only worthy candidate.i don't learn diddly squat from sky sports or cbbc
For sure. I wasn't clear whether that wrapped up block of earth they lifted out was part of the bucket in the museum, or another bucket. Maybe it's a teaser 🙂. Whatever the case, I am looking forward to the future episode(s) on this dig!
I think professor Mick Aston would be absolutely chuffed that time team is going and expanding, with new faces and new technology bringing archeology to the world.
Great seeing everyone doing wonderful archeology. As a Tolkien fan, I love seeing Beowulf interpreted again and again. Each translation brings new insight to this poem. And thank you Sam for adding to the knowledge.
Great to see Mick back on the show again. Would love to see a Time Signs-Time Team throwback special on how Mick and Tim and Phil pioneered what eventually became all we are watching here right now! Complete with pub talks of course!
Hi Dani, Always enjoy the news. You had such a wonderful venue for a backdrop this month. I teared up a bit when Sir Tony brought up Mick . I love that the team brings him on every dig. It is like his spirit is there watching over the team.
I always look for the Mick Aston doll at all this new content. It just makes me feel good to have him still there. We studied Beowulf in high school and it was never so interesting. There is a current rapper named Baba Brinkman, who retells ancient stories and explains science in modern language and then has it peer reviewed for accuracy. He's great at capturing the attention of young people with stories and science told in a way that grabs them. His rendition of Beowulf is surprisingly good (coming from an old lady). I adore Time Team Official.
The people at Time Time should know that there is a team of excellent reenactors called Wulfheodenas who specialize in painstakingly recreating all of the artifacts from finds from the same era as the Sutton Hoo burial . Their work is absolutely stunning and would add a lot to the public's understanding of what all of this was like when the people were alive.
i'm hoping the Waterloo to Waterloo ride might give us the occasion for a small cameo from Phil Harding. He is the only missing Time Team Living Treasure! We love You Phil !:-) 🙏💜⚡

Also seen another favorite, Guy de la Bedoyere, who finished a book. Wondered and would love to catch up with others I remember like Tracey, Katie, Bernard, Sue, and Raysan. So many over the years! I know Mick "the dig" Worthington is teaching here in America. I also miss seeing Ian Powelsland. Could you ever do a catch up with these people? Oh! And I loved someone who reminded me of my departed Dad, Francis Prior!
Go Lawrence and Harry 🚴♂️🚴♀️….. brilliant Waterloo challenge… good luck with your fund raising, and the ride. Such a very worthy charity to support 👍🇬🇧.
That's a pretty good distance for three days, Lawrence! I'd be interested to know if you'll be publishing a GPS track after you've done it, so other people could cycle it, too! (Though perhaps not in three days!) My dad and I will be cycling past part of the Limes, stopping to visit Roman archaeological highlights along the way, so that'll be a lot more leisurely!
This is great Time team again, fantastic only just discovered it. I just like the presentation so much better than the BBC where they have one particular presenter pretty much for every archaeological programme,
Thank younTime Team for everything y'all have given us and everything y'all have done for history/archeology. Tony Robinson is an iconic part of alot of our lives!
It was nice of you guys to mention Mick Howson he is missed badly. any news on Phil Harding? I figured if he was still alive he would be there just to even just see and maybe offer his trowel one last time between Tony and Phil they were the backbone of time team and everybody else were not supporting characters but they were important people too but Bill was always there every episode And he too is sorely missed
Helen sets the stage for Sutton Hoo & Sam sets the tone. shivers... he tells it like he's just returned from a long voyage, not just in place but in time. Love their passion for the past. Great to see students rocking the trenches 🙌 Ut Vitam Habeant Dani, you are a TT gem💎 Pat/ Canada. Cheers ☕
Bike ride to Waterloo. Who are your training crew? I am a qualified Personal Trainer and long distance cyclist. I have my Audax UK 300km medal and patch. Are there places for volunteers?
I had to memorize a bit of Beowulf in the original in a high school English class, and it came in handy starting in 2020, as it's about 30 seconds long. So when I want really clean hands, I pull out the Beowulf (hopefully nobody thinks I'm attempting to summon a demon in the bathroom)
I can recommend two translations: the Seamus Heany translation and the JRR Tolkien translation. Both are really good. The Heany translation has the original poem written along with the translated version side by side. The Tolkien translation includes notes about the context of some of the stanzas as well as notes on Tolkien’s interpreting the translation.
How many Saxon men have been found by Time Team? Answer. Not many. More Saxon men are buried in Wales than anywhere else. For it is where they all fell.

A question:
If you excavate missing parts of a bucket, do you have less or more on your bucket list after this?
