Hi, great video thanks. I have a question: we have one on-premises exchange server 2019, and we installed the the Hybrid configuration Wizard on a separate member server. I am confused which server to choose as Receive and Connectors. Mailboxes are only on the EX2019 Server but not on the member server. Can you please help me? Thank you so much
Typically the member server in this scenario is set up as a CAS or a client access server. This essentially acts as a gateway between your exchange network and Microsoft exchange online. It essentially takes the role of a router and is responsible for the forwarding of mail to either online or in-house exchange systems. Transport rules tend to be pointed towards the server. As I said this is only a gateway. I hope this helps for more details I will visit the docs.microsoft.com website also, the Microsoft tech community has some great resources that you may wish to look at all the best and thanks, Andy
@@AndyMaloneMVP Hey, Thank you for your quick reply: I asked someone else and this was his answer which made me confused: "As long as you have internet connection on the EX2019 and ports are open , you can select EX2019 and that should do Mail routing for your mailboxes"
I come up with another question if you please. can you put me on the right direction on how to move the HCW from this member server and install it directly on Exchange Server where the Mailboxes live? Thank you so much for your help.
how can i create a restriction on a user mailbox to allow him to send mail from his mail box only from the organization premises, in another word how can it allow mail relay or submission based on Ip range but from my users perspective. In this case the internal user is the sender
Thanks Andy. That magnifying mouse pointer is annoying because the circle hides exactly the words of what you're highlighting. Any chance you cab make it a larger circle so we can see properly
Dear Andy, i would like to configure a mail flow rule (Exchange admin center) that sends a copy of some emails (containing keywords in subject) to another mailbox. If I use the redirect option under mail flow will the mail stay in the inbox of the original recipient AND being send to the other mailbox? the email must be readable from both mailboxes
This is a pretty specific want. and if you're asking if there is a magic button then the answer is no. However if it was me, i'd try Exchange online mail flow rules, or create a Power Automate workflow. Good luck :-)
Hi Andy, Please make video on Exchange online migration and different ways of migrations to tenant to tenant and onprem to m365 migration and vice versa.
Brilliant video, appreciate simple explanations with examples. I am looking to possibly get your input on something please, our organization is looking at switching mail flow to essentially bypass on-prem Exchange in our mailfow and route all e-mails directly via Exchange online. We're using Hybrid Exchange as it stands. Flow Currently is as follows MX record - > MessageLabs Filtering -> On-prem Exch load balancer -> Two Exchange servers -> Exchange Online via remote routing mailboxes. Am I correct in assuming, that to achieve that we would simply need to change the inbound rule in our filtering system to send e-mails directly to Exch Online and bypass on-prem?
Does anyone know a good way to add many email addresses to a rule without entering them one at a time? I'm looking to add multiple extensions to be blocked to one rule as well. Can I seperate them with commas? I'm in the middle of a migration from exchange on site. We were using a different email filtering service before. Thanks
Andy we have an email hosting provider but only one user using exchange 2019, I want to migrate the email from the online exchange 2019 server to MS 365 online is this possible? If so, what changes would I make in the MX record?
To be honest the simplest thing that you could do here is export the users content to a PSD file create a new user in Microsoft 365 and import the content in. Yes you can do an email migration using the migration tools in exchange online, but this seems like hammering a nail on the head with an anvil rather than a delicate hammer. I hope this helps.
Andy, I have a client that has Office 365 BS with their mails going to Microsoft 365 Online Exchange and all the MX record sends it there, they however have 2 users that is not on Microsoft 365 but still want to get mails from that domain. These email addresses are still setup on the origanal server where the website is being hosted. Is there a way that when someone send to those 2 email addresses that it sends it to server so they can download the mails the normal way without using M365 Online Exchange
I would use two MX Records and wait them accordingly to your requirements. Likewise I would also set an MX record on your remote mail server to point to Microsoft. Beyond that you would need to get support. I suspect your issue is DNS based though. Good luck and all the best.
Hi Andrew absolutley. Go to the Exchange Admin Centre in Microsoft 365 - Reports and there are a number of reports here that you'll find useful. More details learn.microsoft.com
Finally!!! I’ve always interested in this exchange online mail flow related topic! Very informative 🎉thank you. By the way, I wonder If there any chance the topic related to Active Directory and exchange server will be considered in the future as well? Am very looking forward to watching your next video. This is Very good training material. Thanks again 😊
thank you Andy! Learnt more about mail flow today
I’m delighted to hear that and thanks for the comment 😀
You are a MCT indeed. Nicely delivered. Thank you.
Indeed thank you for your kind words, it was my pleasure. All the best Andy.

Hi Andy, great video by the way, with message trace as IT Administrator how can I read the content of the email message for auditing purpose
You can do this with Ediscovery tools. By default administrators should not be able to read emails.
Thank you Andy.. I am learning a lot from your videos
Hi Jeorge thanks and I'm delighted to hear that. :-)
Thank you sir - loved it
Thank You, Andy. You are a champion. Excellent learning.
Why thank you kindly Sir, I appreciate that 😊

So nice of you
Great training however I don't see how to do and "or" condition when creating a rule. It always comes up as "AND". How is this done?
Weird, I’m not sure sorry. Check out the docs learn.microsoft.com for more details. Hopefully you’ll find an answer their
how can i see which connector is used for any message in a message trace?

Forgot to specify, we are looking at changing our inbound route.
Yes, I would agree with that and perhaps a change of a max record as well. Best of luck

PowerShell.com I’m sure there must be a script for that
