    Nice comparison clip .. I’ve done some fun street photography in Las Vegas with my 24mm 2.8. Feels kinda rewarding knowing you’re getting cool pics with a small budget lens. Having not purchased the 24mm 1.4 I used that xtra cash and bought me a 90D with 18-135mm.:)

    Boy did you deliver bud... That was a totally fun video (!) and the comparison was really interesting. I've been looking at the 24 mm (really passionate enthusiast - not pro). Hopefully I'll find it used for 2/5ths of the new price! I'll definitely stick around to see what else you're putting out!👍

    The background blur on the 1.4 was really nice . There's definitely a way to get that background blur effect with a 2.8. (Synthetic post process) Most people put their in images on Instagram. They have a lens blur tool right there. it would give the same effect for 10 x less the price. Pump It Up one stop and you got a 1.4 photo lens blur in the background.

    Great video. For me, in the environment I plan on shooting in, the 2.8 is better suited for my vision. I don't want the background to be as blurry, I want it to retain a good amount of clarity. I think the 24mm 2.8 and 50mm 1.8, under the right settings, are perfect for outdoor daytime/nighttime scenes.

    Why/how did background blur become so important? Is it just the current fashion? I remember being a hobby photographer in high school (1964 - 70) when maximum depth of field was very popular because sharpness and detail were highly desirable. I remember when speedo briefs were popular. Now it's knee length baggy board shorts. Is there any objective measure of better or is it just arbitrary current fashion?

    Will the Canon EF-S 24mm f2.8 STM fit onto a full Frame body like the 5D? I know it's designed for APS-C bodies, but I've read competing views as to whether it will actually fit onto a full frame body, albeit with some vignetting.

    1:41 - That is a wondeful quote xD In some groups I do not like those Fkers speaking without extra explanation about why buy that,they just write: "buy sigma 17-50", "buy 80-200 2.8, is a lens for life", "16-35mm is an all around lens, buy it", "save a little more money and invest in a 24-70 2.8" These are nice for sure, but "little more money" that is bullshit, is quite a lot more and even though a lens could stand a life time, maybe photography will not last your own life time, you get debts, you could get different interest and throw away your gear so that fancy 16-35mm could became death space and a regretful waste of money, so thats why is wonderful to get cheaper options, get results and learn about. These 2 lenses give what you get for money. The 1.4mm is an specialiced lens to those who knows what to do, the fastest wide lens from canon. The 2.8 gives a nice value, it is the smallest and lightest lens for canon, you just can't go smaller from this point, you have to change body and that is why this is my favorite lens

  • @gregorypecaut7164
    @gregorypecaut7164 Рік тому

    Not a silly comparison at all. Many new to photography have no idea of first, the difference between f/2.8 and f/1.4. Or the cost difference between full frame lenses and aps-c lenses.
    Too many people spend too much on their camera, and not nearly enough on their glass.
    Another great comparison would be comparing pictures from an 80d and a t7. Make it fun using say the 18-55 kit lens on the 80d, and a good prime lens on the t7. Something like a 50mm f/1.8. Then you can always knock it out of the park using the 80d with a Holga vs the t7 with the kit lens.
    My saying is spend more on your lenses than your camera. A cheap camera with a good lens, almost always out performs an expensive camera with a cheap lens.

    • @JoshWiniarski
      @JoshWiniarski  3 роки тому +1

      @@Ezdiess Right on! So if you've got an 18-55 and a 50mm, the 10-18 could be a really good option. 10mm feels CRAZY wide compared to 18mm, and if you're traveling to cool places as well as vlogging that makes it a great option. Alternatively, if you're trying to shoot anything far away like birds the 55-250mm is sweet, although you probably wouldn't use it a ton for short films. It all depends on your style, but the 10-18mm is jumping out at me the most from what you've told me. Hope this helps!

      @@darylmeer2318 I wouldn't really recommend either 24mm lenses for landscape. They absolutely work, they're both sharp for the price, both let in lots of light for the price, and both are reasonably compact. Personally though I've always found zoom lenses to be a lot better for landscape shooting. There's nothing worse than being at 24mm and needing 18mm, or 14mm, or even 10mm to capture everything you wanted. If I were you, I'd take a look at The Canon 10-18mm, the Canon 10-22mm, and the Sigma 17-50mm. These are all great lenses for landscape photography!

    I'm a rank beginner with a Canon T6 APSC, wondering if there's a reason to buy an APSC lens if there is an FF lens with the same focal length and aperture. Assuming a similar price that is, I might as well get the FF lens in case I ever upgrade to an FF camera, right? Also, assuming both have IS and STM, although the lighter lens might be a factor.

    • @gregorypecaut7164

      Full frame almost always goes for more than aps-c lenses. And aps-c lenses almost always are sharper on crop sensor cameras. However, I have found all my full frame L glass to be sharp on my crop sensor cameras, just pricey. But I didn't buy them for the crop sensor cameras, I bought them for my 5D IV.
      Canon wants to move past EF and EF-S so I don't think we will see any new lenses or DSLR cameras from them. If you don't have a good camera yet, look at the R series. They have a few starter cameras in the line up now and R glass should be around for a while. If you're getting a DSLR with a crop sensor, then scarf up the lower cost aps-c lenses and enjoy the savings.
