Baikohken | Stix Asia Waikiki, Hawaii | Michelin Rated Ramen | Is It Worth It?

- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- I was curious to try out this Michelin Rated Japanese ramen restaurant in Waikiki. However, it is noted that the Michelin rating was given to the original restaurant in Hokkaido, Japan. This restaurant blossomed into a chain found in other parts of the world such as Vietnam and Thailand.
I read somewhere that the Michelin rating was given for the shio ramen. However, whatever I read was wrong. It was given to the shoyu ramen. BUT! The shio is WINNAHS. I think it would definitely adapt to local taste buds for those that love saimin. Think of it as a luxurious, more flavorful saimin dish.

Apologies. I read a review prior to coming here, and it said the Michelin Rating was given to the Shio Ramen, which is why I mention it in this video. After reading the restaurant's website, that person was incorrect. It was their shoyu ramen that got the rating. Nevertheless, after reading lots of reviews from regular folks, it seems more people liked the shio more than the shoyu ramen. So it's a win-win in my book.
I perfer shio to shoyu. Miso is dead last for me. Tonkotsu is my favorite.
@@bolohead1 I love shio when I can find it.😢😢😢😢😢
Hubby and I love ramen. And you right. I live Kaneohe and avoid going to Waikiki. But, If we accidentally end up there, I’ll know where to go for the good stuff 😊🤙🏼. Thanks for the heads up on the parking info too. And for taking one for the team and driving all the way over there. ❤
@@urs- You're so very welcome! 😊
CHEE!!! Keep up the content!!!
Mahalo Philip! 🤙
Your ramen looked almost like a tonkotsu...thick and cloudy. Usually, I like shio because it is clear. Not a fan of thick, cloudy broths. Well, I suppose there's more than one way to make it. But yeah I'm like you. If I don't HAVE to go to Waikiki (party, wedding, etc.), I won't.
I didn't think it was thick. Because I don't like those broths either. Really tasted like a saimin broth with some pork bone broth mixed together.
Aloha Misty: It was fun tagging-along with you for ramen noodles at the food court. I was amazed at the large bowl of delicious bone-broth noodles with garnishment and the side-dish of gyozas - the price was awesome for delicious food at a restaurant located in Waikiki. Too bad I don’t have a Hawaii ID anymore - 🥲. I am looking forward to visiting during the next visit home. You are dong a great vlog presenting the restaurants of our hometown. Keep up the great vlogging. Nice to meet one of your subscribers during this vlog. Best wishes and much 🧧, follow 🐯-alum! 🤙 to you and Aiden!
Aloha Bill! Thanks for tagging along with me! I think you would enjoy this when you come back home or any of the other restaurants in the food hall. Thanks for always watching and leaving wonderful comments on my channel. I hope you have a great weekend! Take care! 🤙
I have a problem with noisy eaters too. I love chili oil in my ramen and lots of green onions /veggies. I don't like soggy noodles. I like it like my pasta, el denti
Me too. I agree.
Another fun and very tasty-looking food adventure! The food looked so delicious! Thanks for the tour around and the parking explanation, so helpful. How fun to bump into subscribers!
No problem! ❤️🤙
Bone broth is full of calcium...so that’s good. Oh yes, chili oil ramps up the flavor. You and I have the same thoughts About local style saimin vs Japan style ramen. 😊
Yes I think we have the same tastebuds 🤣 You'd definitely enjoy this one Do. 🤙
5:26 all my kitchen people heard that ticket machine 🤣
Vegetarian AND vegan ramen? That's awesome! Something for everyone. Thanks Misty. 😉🤙
You're welcome Alan. 🤙
Happy Aloha Friday Misty!! OMG that ramen looked ono!! We are excited to visit Stix Asia when we go back. Looks like a nice variety of vendors to try. A little pricey for ramen but again it’s in Waikiki so understandable. Even though the Shoyu was the Michelin winner, the Shio looks winnaz like you said. Mahalo for another great video!! Have a great weekend!! 🤙🏽🙌🏽😋👍🏽
Hi Michelle & Jose! I think you'd love this broth. So complex! I heard the shoyu is thin and I would assume so. But I'd love to come back and try the shoyu to find out myself which one is better! I can't wait to hear about your thoughts on the Stix Asia Food Hall! Have a great weekend!
@@FoodFiend let us know if end up trying the shoyu and which you think is better or if you do a video on it…even better!! 😃🤙🏽
There's an elevator 🛗
Hi Sista, looks so Ono, making my mouth water. Good price for the quality. Thanks for another great video. God bless.
Mahalo Braddah Mark! The kama'aina rate helps a lot. God bless and have a wonderful weekend!
The ramen looks so delicious Misty! 😋😋😋 There are no really great ramen places on the mainland. 🙁
Aloha and stay blessed! ❤️🙏🏻😊🌺🏝
Thanks Joette. Yes I've have yet to see a good ramen place on the mainland. Have a great weekend and God Bless!
Love your content Misty 💓 why shouldn't you make something for shorts and reels ?
Thanks Devon. I do have a bunch of shorts.
Aloha Misty, absolutely love the music you use in your videos, i started to think Austin Powers!!!! If I ever make it back out to Hawaii, I definitely want to check this place out. Thanks again for your great videos 😎
Mahalo Paula! Yes Austin Powers totally fits. Never thought about that. But I was envisioning a cheesy 70s game show with Bob Barker in the background 🤣
No shame you didn’t need a take home box, meant it was good 👌! I need to get down to Stix. Seems like there are definitely places i’d try...Baikohken (as i’ve never had Michelin star rated ramen) but also that HK cafe sounds good. With the kamaaina discount it saved on the overall cost so good to know. The prices at the udon place were great too👌!
Yes the prices were surprisingly not bad for Waikiki! I wouldn't mind coming back. As long as there's a parking garage and good food I'd come back again.
OK it is the shoyu ramen ...for the Michelin Star ! The shio ramen was onolicious ! We will try it out when we go home for a visit ! Mahalo for sharing Misty ! Stix Asia Waikiki hea we come !
Aurite Gail! ❤️
My take: Ramen is a cut above saimin which is local style. Also, when you eat gyoza try it with the chili oil, vinegar and shoyu.
This was the best one I've had on island. The other restaurants I went to weren't for my local tastebuds. I bet I would enjoy the real thing in Japan though. I did add vinegar to my shoyu for the gyoza, but good tip on the chili oil. Forgot that. Thanks for the tips and for watching. 🤙
My Gal Pal is Japanese. I have to see if telling her this place is Michelin rated will put her in the mood for a vacation to Hawaii. I want to see her in a bikini really bad, lol.
😂
Thanks!
In Honolulu China town there’s Vietnamese restaurant called Kieu's try their Bun Bo Hue, it's excellent. Your lunch is on me. Enjoy.
@@ThuanHoang-fd3dx oh my goodness! Thank you so much for your generosity! I will try in July. I'm going to be on a trip most of June. Cảm ơn! 🙏
Everything looks Delish
Mahalo it was!
Awwww I wish I knew you were coming to Waikiki. You could have parked at my building.
Tip: park at the Ross parking garage across the street. Buy something in the line for a couple bucks and you can get your parking validated for up to two hours.
K Street Food has one of the best chicken sandwiches with a pickled slaw on top. Definitely worth checking out.
Aw thanks my friend. But I never like bother you because it was done on a whim. Thanks for the tip. When I come back we gotta eat again!
I love this tip. Use to do this at SF fisherman’s wharf but a Walgreens. 😆
How nice to meet your subscribers! That alone is worth the journey into Waikiki (like it's really that far lol). Awesome ramen is a bonus!
Yes, I enjoy bumping into them and talking story. 🤙
Looking forward to trying Stix out when I get there in Oct. 4 months 2 days to go. I have never had Ramen before not to many places sell it here in the UK so it is on my bucket list.
I think you'll like it whatever choice of noodles you decide to order. What a coincidence you commented as I did visit Aloha Beach Dogs today. I mentioned you and they remembered. Although I am ahead on videos so it won't come out for a while. And I don't think it's my best video since I couldn't show too much food because there was no table to sit at. But I thoroughly enjoyed my hot dog!
@@FoodFiend I am so glad you got to try it. There did use to be a table you could sit at but they upgrade the dog cart to a van. told you the dogs are good I can not wait to see the video :)
Hey, Misty! Another good foodie submission! Having worked @ Shirokiya prior their closing, is Stix Asia similar to Shirokiya, w/individual food stalls?
I would say it is sort of similar, but instead of "community" seating, each stall has their own seating area so you can't order from a bunch of places and pick a table to enjoy the food like at the old Shirokiya.
@harrymiram5562 Thank you for the tip of getting Hawaiian number plates from the Swap Meet , I found a seller, selling genuine plates. I got 2 plates with the little month stickers on them. First plate is old , it’s a commercial plate from 1981 (the numbers are before letters) with theKing Kamehameha orange on it and the second plate is a car rainbow plate (letters before the numbers) and has the sticker top right corner MAY 2019
1969, Awesome, Since they have kamaina discount I'm going to have to go back and try it. I usually park at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping center and get me some Jumbi. If you spend $10 you have 2 hours free parking then a discounted rate after that. Food looks good, another place to add from your videos. Only made it to a few so far but they didn't disappoint
Awesome parking tip!
No Local would spend $3 for half an hour for any food in Waikiki
Great tip for us Locals and visitors too
Saturday night live intro, just saying lol
I was thinking more of a cheesy 70's game show theme.
@@FoodFiend lol
I am SO excited to check this place out. A few years ago, in the same location, we loved Nana's green tea soft serve and the NanaMusubi. This looks like a more polished-up version of what was there and the food you had looks amazing! Parking is always pretty tricky in town but there are a few places and we don't mind walking. Always appreciate your comprehensive and thorough opinions on places to try! 🤙 Mahalo!
Thanks so much Samantha! I think you'll enjoy the newer version of this food hall. ❤️🤙
Excellent food hall. I don't think I've had a really good bowl of Ramen yet so I'm waiting to try the places you have reviewed. Thanks again for another great review.
I think you'd enjoy this shio ramen. I, like you, did not enjoy any ramen I've had on Oahu. I think I tried 4 places and I did not like the texture of the noodles or the soup. This shio ramen reminds me of an upscale saimin.
Loved the intro music! Woke me up! You’re right I never go to Waiks! That ramen looked bomb!
Mahalo Brian!
Fancy ramen looked yummier than the shoyu ramen I'm sure. Looking forward to your next travel vlogs! I used to be a travel agent with company vouchers to travel all over the world which I never took lol I'm not much into traveling anyway, but love it when others show it through their eyes. Have a great weekend my friend.
Mahalo Kevin! Yeah I think things happen for a reason so the universe told me, "Eat the Shio!" That is so awesome you had those benefits! Why don't you like to travel? I love to learn peoples' culture and it makes you think the world is actually so small because we are mostly all alike. That's ok if you don't like it. I wanted this channel to kind of be an "armchair traveler " type of channel for those who can't. Unfortunately some people are not interested because they don't want to open their mind.
Hehehe...Am Totally 100% agreeing w/U!...IMO...Most locals, like myself, try & stay as far Outside of WKK, as possible! Too much noise, too muh congestion & too much headache makes for Hugely unfriendly local environs! Whenever feeling the need to haed beachward, NS for me...Slamdunk!
You're right Harry. So expensive and a tourist trap, but there are some gems to be found here. ✨️
@@FoodFiend...As a whole, is Stix Asia worth time, headache & $$$$?
@@harrymiram6621 I thought so. During lunchtime anyway. I don't know how crowded it would be at night. It wasn't a headache to get there really.
Misty and Harry , We went to Stix Asia about 5.30pm on Sunday 21st May. The place was not busy at that time. We went to Honolulu Noodle & Co there. With Tip$ it cost us $60 , we had 6pce Gyoza , Porkchop with Fried Rice, Pork Belly Sauté Dry Noodle and a Coke and Sprite. All was very good. But that gives you an idea of the price.
@@RodSwansmad Sounds delicious, but yes that's why locals avoid Waikiki. It is pricey and in a way a tourist trap. I'm glad you did your research and ventured outside of there to eat at different places. I hope your vacation was a good one!
Awesome!!!
Mahalo!
Aloha Misty!!!It was nice meeting you there!if you ever come to San Diego Let us know. Thanks for all the good videos you make.Always get new places to eat.😀Roy and Jo-Ann
It was so nice meeting you, Roy and Jo-Ann! Thanks for stopping to chat with me and I hope your trip was a great one!
Food and Family always good. Thanks again for all the best reviews.👍Honest Reviews from a Local!!Im still a Kikaida fan😆Yessah!!
There has barely been a few I've found that are above really great to eat again and again. I'm going there hopefully soon 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾 Great tasty vlog my good fiend.
Thanks so much TE! Have a great, relaxing weekend. 🤙
@@FoodFiend I hope you have a wonderful weekend as well.
For your trip : )
Holy moly Kevin. Just staaaaap. I'll send you over a gift from the surprise trip. Not the east coast one, unless you want something from there. Thanks so much!
@@FoodFiend No need! That's for you and your boy. Enjoy!
