You could try doing and at home electrolysis in a 55 gallon drum, I've seen youtube videos where people have use that method and seemed to clean the water passages real good.
Just remember to do it outside because it creates hindenburg zeppelin gas or hydrogen gas it doesn't degrade the metal and works well with any metal except stainless steel it can produce a very dangerous gas with stainless steel but it should never be rusty be safe especially when young people are involved stay and a non metallic plastic barrel really is important

I run the hydraulic flat tappet version of that camshaft in my 390 in my 64 4 door. I like it. Decent idle, makes great torque right off idle and has a great mid and high range. Glad to see that car closer to getting back on the road.
Back in 1976 Dad brought home a 64 black on red wagon 289 , 3spd on the column , clean as a pin . He put chrome reverse wheels and gangster white walls , loud duals , my favorite car growing up . I was Wawa's age then .
I bought a belt from Duluth Trading the same day I bought my groove belt. Over two years later I have never worn the Duluth belt but I do wear the groove everyday. Good choice for a sponsor. Great products
The timing cover depends on the water pump. Since it was a 64 it may have had an aluminum special pump so good luck. You may need a late model timing chain cover to make it right.
Glad to see your Galaxie wagon project progressing so well. As a Ford wagon guy I appreciate the old 302 V8 as all of my cars including the 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis have this engine. Since mine are not the high output version they are rated at only 150 H.P. and 270 Ft. Lbs. of torque, but still can get up and go if you stand on it. My 1991 wagon had the engine and transmission rebuilt in 2020 since the original engine build failed at 140,000.0 while I was towing my Triton Triple Quad trailer in Massachusetts. It only has 10,000.0 miles on it since the rebuild. My 1987 wagon has 246,000.0 miles on the original engine and runs like a watch. If you change your oil frequently these engines will last a long time. I am looking forward to your next video on the Galaxie wagon.
Reminds me of Building and changing over my 58 Ford Fairlane to a Police Interceptor 427 with 2 4bbl carbs when I was a Kid and changing the 3 speed to a floor shift 4 speed. It has everything and still runs good. I went in the Army at 17 and I still have it. Red and White looks new. Did the complete Route 66 about 10 years ago with it. Now an Old Man but it has a few engine Mods 20 over bore a nice cam. I have that with my full restored M151A1 1966 Ford Mutt with every option on it including the Artic Package it too looks Battle Ready with the Trailer. I love your video's. My career was Insurance Claims and a Cargo 747 Pilot Contractor. I used to be a Engine Inspector for NASCAR. Been Busy. You have a wonderful Family. God Bless all of you.
Love your channel sleeper dude! Your very knowledgeable with your engine's and you explain your work. That's what separates your channel from the rest. Keep up the good work
I've cleaned up a lot of really rusty stuff with Muriatic Acid. It works very quickly. Might be a worth using that block as a test bed to see if it can clean up those crusty passages.
Reverse electrolysis will work better but must be done safely because it creates hindenburg zeppelin gas or hydrogen gas and can get very dangerous if done inside. There is several videos on youtube on the very simple inexpensive way to do it with washing soda available at dollar general stores in the laundry department a battery charger and old battery for balancing the system battery needs to be ok
I'd say Muriatic Acid sounds a lot simpler and cheaper than going to all that trouble. Any time I've used acid it works in mere minutes and cleans very well.
@@gregallen4272 I don’t see how you could isolate the electrode in an engine block unless it was in a large vat with the isolated rod separated from the motor. That might work but it would require a lot of washing soda. 🤔
Ha....I've put the engine together, put it in the car....bolted everything up....started it.... couldn't figure out why I was burning so much oil?? I never did install the valve Seals 😐 I've been there Josh! Glad you caught it BEFORE you put it in the car! Can't wait to see it run!! 👍
The hump in the front of the oil pan is to clear the oil pump. Make sure the damper and flywheel are the correct balance factor (50 oz) for that engine. They make both 157 and 164 tooth flywheels with 50 oz balance, so which ever you need. Your bell housing will determine which one.

Just have to be careful using the hammer and socket technique cuz if you don't get it on there straight you can have the retainer gouge into the side of the valve stem and wreck the valve You're really better off to use a valve spring compressor every time
You can tap the edge of the retainer to break the wedge fit but you are correct you need to use a compressor after that. You can also damage the keepers = dropped valve ouch.
Nice video about the new engine and modification in your 64 Ford Galaxy. Its 80's V8 engine. Sleeperdude Family❤❤❤. Excited about next video in your Galaxy running.👍😍
I might have hooked up the water pump (with heads and intake) and used a washing machine motor to push Evaporust through that block for a few days. With the bad bore the rust probably pushed it over the edge, but I’m not convinced that the rust made it unsalvageable…
Check out using reverse electrolysis to remove rust there are several different videos on UA-cam just don't do it inside it creates hindenburg zeppelin gas or hydrogen gas also works good on all rusty metal parts without degrading them and making easier to hold paint
I just wanted to share this with you. I watched a professional restorer do this. He mixed Kerosene and motor oil together to make a solvent to loosen nuts and bolts...better than liquid wrench..works exceptionally well. For gas tank cleaning he put Citric acid in a glass, a whole granulated packet...poured it in the tank after it dissolved and then filled the tank with water and let it sit. Rinsed it out with water then poured Acetone in the tank, swished it around and the tank was beautiful, as if it was never rusted at all. Thought you might like to know how the Old timers restore without buying much.
I was an engineering student in 1969 thru 1973. The school was General Motorss Institute, now Kettering. It was a coop education, with alternating 6 week sessions working and at school. My work sponsor was Chevrolet Engineering Center at the GM Tech CEnter. One of the technicians there had what I hav always thought was the ultimate sleeper, a 67 Chevelle wagon with a typical grandma turquise paint job and a 327 logo on the front corner. However, this was the 327, 365 HP with a 4 speed "rock crusher" close ratio and a 4:11 posi rear end. It also had headers and exhaust cutouts. He would open these once in a while leaving the Tech Center going out onto Van Dyke in Warren. What a sweet sound, that high compression small block just screaming! He happened to be the uncle of one of my college buddies who was equally as crazy. I love sleepers, expecially wagons.
When I was younger I bought a couple of cars that ran great, but had really bad paint. I went to Wal-Mart and filled a cart with 25 cans of color and 25 cans of clear coat (when they were actually 99 cents) and I painted both cars with it, in my backyard, in the wind, and under a big tree. I prepped the entire car properly, masked all of the windows and trim, and they both turned out really nice. I still have pictures of my Royal Blue 1992 Civic and I painted a 1995 Chevy Beretta that I got for free with the same color and painted the trim with hammered gold and put some Beretta GTU wheels on it and it looked really nice. I let it thoroughly cure for a week or so and I cut and buffed it and while it wasn't a miracle paintjob, it turned out really nice. I painted my wife's 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer with gloss black Rustoleum with a paint gun and a compressor and it was always cloudy and reminded me of when I would buff an old enamel painted car (probably because Rustoleum is enamel). My Civic and my Beretta came out really nice though.
From my earlier post, I meant to include that my 1996 Mustang GT had the 5.0 HO. The good ole old school 302. Awesome engine. The 4.6 liter came in the 1997 model year. Thanks for the great video.
Glad I watched this video today. I ordered a belt and watch from Groove Life. With your discount code, I got more discount than I would have by using my military discount. That's a WIN all the way around! Thank you!
Josh. The rule of thumb on the 302HO with stock pistons, camshaft lift should not be over .500 the F303 Ford motor sport cam what is a 512 lift and even with the proper springs would cause piston to valve interference but usually not till you got them up over about 4000 RPM. .498 lift such a a F303 cam might be more desirable simply because of not having piston to valve interference. Good luck I enjoy your show and really like that you involve the entire family my best to you and God bless.
There's a lot more new stuff out there for engines since I was a kid. You have great help with your wife going from cleaning parts to tending the new younguns in the barn. Great video always checking your own work.

I was going to drop this suggestion before you said that this wagon was going to get painted, but my first impulse was to do an affordable restoration on the Galaxie wagon. Pull out some dents. Cut out some rust. Fill and sand it level.
You'll probably find, that the Isky cam is worth some Ching. Big Brain on Ralphie !!! Learning your skills & remembering them. Kudos young man. Pole Barn Garage repeats over & over , Restoring, while rattle canning a part "New" Ty for taking us along

Love watching you guys fix the old girls up
When I was younger I bought a couple of cars that ran great, but had really bad paint.
Yes!!
High humidity can cause your paint to "blush", can be cloudy looking, since you did it outdoors
I think you forgot the oil slinger , between the timing chain cover , and crank gear. I vote for the T5 . Great content , Thanks.
Can't wait to hear it run! Put that T5 in it, nobody wants a 3 on the floor.
👍👍👍
You have to be proud of your youngins. Great job sleeper dad.
Paint? Now I’m hooked! Way to go Josh! 👍
Thank you
From my earlier post, I meant to include that my 1996 Mustang GT had the 5.0 HO. The good ole old school 302. Awesome engine.
The 4.6 liter came in the 1997 model year.
Thanks for the great video.
Ok awesome thanks

Another great video from my favorite family on UA-cam. You guys always make my day 💓 💕.
You are so kind
Ok thank you I need to check thst
Can't wait to see the Sleeperdude family at a Drive In movie In the wagon!
That would be cool
There's a lot more new stuff out there for engines since I was a kid. You have great help with your wife going from cleaning parts to tending the new younguns in the barn. Great video always checking your own work.
I can't get enough of your videos, I wish you would make them everyday
Pretty excited for the next step on this 5.0 wagon!! Def. T5 transmission👍
You and me both!
Keep those wagons alive! Awesome job.
Good luck to you all.
Thank you all and God bless.
Thank you so much
I love my Groovelife belt, perfect easy adjustment and buckle. 👍🏻
Awesome
Leave the riser on the carb and cut an air scoop, nice job on the engine, my wife loves that little baby goat. We want to sell our house and buy land and get some critters, maybe move to Tennessee 😀 God bless all of you, it scares me to see you work in sandals 😯
Good idea, thank you I’m glad you liked it. Tennessee is nice
