UK athletics set such tough standards, yet they stage their championships at an utterly unsuitable venue, both for athletes, the media and fans. At Birmingham or Crystal Palace, with protection from the wind and with a decent crowd in the home straight cheering him on, he'd have run much quicker. You can't expect fast times on warm-up tracks with tiny crowds.

This was an opportunity for UK Athletics to make a common sense decision and they failed

Fire the selectors. Each country should take 3 athletes per event. Phil Norman deserves an Olympic place. Shame on those who chose not to select him.
    It's a disgrace.

It would be sad to see Phil pack it in. He's clearly the number 1 UK steeplechaser at the moment and is on an upward trajectory. With Zak Seddon, William Battershill and Mark Pearce all running times around the 8:20 mark, the event hasn't looked as healthy since the early 1990s.
