DIY McLaren 650s Maintenance - Oil Change, Accumulators, Transmission Fluid, DCT Fluid
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 вер 2022
- Our friend Tyler's McLaren 650s needed some maintenance to prepare the car for our Tour of Colorado. He wanted to change the oil and oil filter, the transmission oil, transmission filter, DCT (clutch) fluid and filter, replace the accumulators for the suspension, and find and fix a coolant leak. We show you how to service the McLaren 650s which can be done at home fairly easily.

Wow, so much room for activities in that engine bay! I'm glad that Tyler finally found that little coolant leak. Good job Josh!!!
Yes indeed. Thankfully not a head gasket
Freddddd !!!! How you doin' Mr. Magic Luuuuuuuuuube !!!!?? Lol....
@@ndpesicgroup Hey Deuce! Good man, how are you?
@@freddaniali doing well brother !!!! You enjoying the F8 at all ?
That’s coolant I’ve tasted it! Car Wizard: “Challenge accepted!”
Lol
I so need to do this on my r8, change the fluids. Good luck on fix and I can’t wait to hear what it was!
Thanks
Always amazed at how beautiful the McLaren 650S is. Gorgeous car Tyler, should be a blast on the tour!
Yeah it's a fantastic car
Thanks! I can't wait to put some spirited seat time in in Colorado!
So needed to see this
Thanks
When Adam got the gloves out to do the "oil filter autopsy", I was like at least he's using gloves appropriately this time... Unlike the ones he inflated for his sequence dress bust line..🤣🤣
LOL true.
You guys will figure out the McLaren problem! I have a McLaren dealer less than 2 miles from my house. It seems to be the car of choice around here for the under 35 guys. Very Cool!
Indeed thank you. :)
“That is not to torque spec” 😂 yeah I’ve been there before. Absolutely love this. Keep up the great videos.
Lol thanks
That's a sweet ride !!!
Yes it is
Good video guys, nice to see DIY on McLarens, and you only had to lift it half way up to get under it 😁
Yup
Josh Quack called to reception lol. Amazing car.
Oh Josh, good job with that bolt
Lol thanks
When I was a kid, most grocery stores had a coin operated kiddie ride that was either a horse or car. You would jump in/on and put a quarter into the coin box, and the ride would operate for about 5 minutes. The toy car looked a lot like this McLaren. Maybe you need to put a quarter in the McLaren to make it go! Just saying...
That's an interesting approach. Although it's a McLaren, you have to probably swipe a credit card.
LOL, that's a lot of luuuube!
Lol it was
Transmission oils usually have a high sulfur content and that's why they smell.
Ahhhh makes sense
Time to manual convert the McLaren. 🤣 Always fun when doing maintenance gives you other things to do.
Nah, DCT >>>any manual.
Modern cars with modern problems. :)
try cycling the rear wing several times i believe i read something about that on the mclaren forums before after people changed all fluids to sort of prime the system
That is something I've heard as well, but it wasn't the problem.
Thanks for this video- good stuff! What website or resource did you use for directions to do the DIY? Am trying to decide between buying the 570s spider or the 650s spider- leaning towards the 650s. If only those two - which way do you all lean? TIA! Cheers!
I will have to ask Tyler, the owner as I didn't look it up.
@@normalguysupercar Thanks, appreciate it! And... 650S or 570S? :)
@@DoranKevin Super series (650s) all day over Sport series (570s), suspension differences make it worth it for not beating you up as much driving it. As for resources there is a lot of good information on the p11 platform on mclaren life forums. And McMedics sells pretty much all the filters, accumulators, etc. as well as Mclaren Boston has some parts for sale on their website... although their crush washers didn't fit...
@@kilotangodelta Thanks for the insight! Yah, I was definitely leaning towards the 650s...appreciate the confirmation. Keep up the great videos guys- Cheers!
How do you know the torque specs for the bolts? McLaren have a manual available?
Just googled it. Also there's some expectations based on the materials
Lighting is much better!!!
omg the first positive comment about the lighting at the Howard! i’d like to thank my mom, dad, the academy and thomas edison.
Lol I altered the lighting post
@Normal Guy Supercar how do you guys see DIY services affecting to resale value of McLaren, Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, etc?
It's not really significant unless the car has a full documented history. Otherwise so long as it can be proven somehow that it was maintained, people don't really care.
You guys figure the issue out? I'm curious as I'm planning to do the same
Yes it was the transmission wiring harness plug came loose
@@normalguysupercar easy fix! Appreciate the info
How much would that service be if you had that done at a McLaren dealership? Tyler surely saved money 💴 on that DIY.
I'm sure it's not cheap
on mine it's about $3,000 and that's once a year... that's from the McLaren dealer
And I'd have to pay to get it to Houston or Dallas on top of that!
@@kilotangodelta well that’d be pretty expensive
Just got quoted for the same service. $10k at McLaren here in Colorado
I'm going assume it's a "wet plate" clutch ?
Yes
If you guys are going to throw that many F Bombs around I'm going need the other Josh around to double them up. Lol.
Great video....BUT ......dam McLarens. High maintenance super models.
Lol
Is Josh still tending his repair shop?
Yes
17:12 I think you said Pitocin(aka Oxytocin), not Pentocin. lol
Lol yeah
maybe you could just take off the negative terminal for a couple of minutes to reset the ecu and see ?
Tried that... No luck. :( But it's fixed now. Stay tuned.
Try completely disconnecting the battery for a few minutes.
We did no luck
5:16 missed a prime that’s what she said Opportunity
Damn
Has it got warranty? lol
Nope
It’s weird watching people try and use tools for the first time.
It’s weird someone that hasn’t used tools before is wearing a Milwaukee tool shirt…
Ok
It’s not six Quarts.
Yeah
He is obviously never smelled gear oil. It stinks!
True
wow thats aluminum. Whoever put that oil drain on is clueless. Way over tightened.
Yeah no kidding!
@@normalguysupercar you are lucky as a mofo that shit did not strip out.
