I’m white, and grew up on some black sitcoms. The Cosby Show, Family Matters, Martin, etc. Those were GREAT shows no matter what color your skin is, because they didn’t focus everything around the aspect of them being black. It was about family, relationships, and overcoming issues together. That’s what TV today is missing.

@@MunchiexNinja that's the key difference between good writing and political propaganda, well written shows and movies ask the question but don't give you an obvious answer, because it's supposed to make you think about it. When they answer their own question before you can even think about it, and then beat you over the head with it to make sure you know their position, it's propaganda.

@@MunchiexNinja An episode of “living single” came on the other day, which I haven’t seen in years. Didn’t watch it, but hearing the theme song gave me flashbacks and got my brain ticking.
I started wondering how shows like that no longer exist. Any TV program with a massive African American audience, inevitably starts injecting strict democratic political rhetoric into their programs these days.
To me, it’s demeaning towards them. Stealing all their outlets for entertainment and turning them into political statements. Blatantly using them as pawns. If anybody is “dehumanizing” African Americans, it’s the type of folks trying to promote the rhetoric consuming their normal day to day lives.

Sean, the CW may have always gotten comparatively low ratings, but they kept surviving because they had shows with massive fanbases that kept them afloat. Once ALL the shows started heading down the woke path, that went away. So yeah, I do think the woke mentality has a lot to do with them crashing and burning. Fans on Tumblr cannot sustain a network of shows.

The ratings criticism still applies. You've overlooked their recent hit. "Superman & Lois" - not at all woke, promoted the nuclear family and depicted Superman, rural America, and the military in a positive light, excellent writing and honored the comic book history - came out in the midst of the CW's woke garbage phase (Batwoman, Naomi, final seasons of Supergirl and The Flash), and its ratings were great. One of the most popular TV shows on network TV.

Superman and Lois is entertaining and overall it's good but it does contain some woke elements and " girl power" initiative. Like when Lana runs for mayor and her husband says " I thought this was your chance to show that Smallville could have a woman mayor" all the feelings talked about by the Kent Boys and Lois constantly " dressing down" Clark and her father. Which I'm pretty sure as a general he isn't used to anyone talking to him like this. It's still a good show with strong characters of both genders but pushing " girl power " or any woke message will kill the show pretty quickly.

Saying the CW didn't actually go broke because of woke, there are other factors, is like saying the Comics industry isn't failing because of it going woke, simply because it was always struggling and fairly niche for years.
Sure, the Comicbook industry had problems long before they decided to push Lefty Propaganda. Dips in quality of writing and art, depending on who was doing what, price, the long history of the characters making it difficult for new people to jump into the run etc. Thing is, going woke made it far worse, where the dedicated fanbase it did have that allowed it to survive for as long as it did completely jumped ship. To where now there's zero chance of them sustaining themselves.
The point is proven even more when you see that there is still a market for what the CW is selling. Good Superhero shows were still fairly popular until they fell fully into the cheap, woke nonsense. People wanted more, but it failed to deliver. Same with Comicbooks, as you often see thirdparty/Indie comics being extremely successful when they give the fans what they want, the recent massive success of the Rippaverse being the newest example.

When people talk about CW's low ratings they aren't comparing them to other networks. They are comparing them to other shows on CW. CW's problem is that they care too much about pushing an agenda. Batwoman had awful ratings that continued to get worst episode after episode and instead of trying to fix this by bringing in new showrunners or writers they just let it go on until it was eventually canceled. Then they rewarded the people working on that show with a new show, Gotham Knights. This is why CW is failing. They seem to care more about pushing "the message" than being profitable and making good content.

Eh... I get your argument about this being a bad thing, but let's be honest, all the stuff that you listed is GOING to happen is stuff that's already happening, and how. Reboots, safe shows, etc has been going on for forever. And if people at least assume that the reason that the CW went bankrupt WAS because it went woke, then maybe someone else will come along and try to innovate without the wokeness.

My favorite CW show ever, was Roswell.
I heard CW did a remake, and I knew it would be bad. Instead of the main lead being teenagers and fighting for love and hiding their identities, it became a woke show called Roswell New Mexico. It was very sexual, and perverse, comparing being an alien to being an illegal and blaming Whites for the problems...needless to say it sucked. There is more I can say, but why bother flogging a thanosed horse.
Roswell in the 90's was fantastic. I know it had a cult following for a long time. I feel the reason remakes also happen, is to destroy the original fan base, so people will not rally behind something, instead despise it.

The criticism of the "woke" shows on the CW wasn't their low ratings; it was the cliff-like drop in ratings after going "woke". Additionally you're ignoring the problems the woke crowd got the CW into, such that by the time Batwoman dropped the station was becoming embroiled in more and more drama.
Now you're right that the fall of the CW was tragic. But most companies, when they see their business plan beginning to fail, evolve their business plan to fit the new circumstances. By the end, the CW was so obsessed with identity politics and other woke nonsense that they ignored anything else and drove the company into the ground.
So, in a roundabout way, they did go broke because they went woke.

I feel like this is like 50% right and 50% wrong the CW particularly. The arrowverse lost millions of viewers over the past years. The arrowverse was so popular that Supergirl aired on CBS and Constantine aired on Fox for their in season 1 because they thought that they could duplicate its popularity across channels. And pretty much all of its popular shows Flash, Arrow, Supergirl all went from 2 million viewers to .3 million in the same two years. Every one of their series that got the chance to have a finale was setting up additional shows to come. So yes the poor/"change in" writing absolutely had an effect a sizeable effect on the CW because they were clearly benefiting from the ad revenue of the live premieres from their shows and we're planning on making new shows as long as those shows could potentially get the same level of engagement.
As far as the paywall problem, there's always been a paywall with different TV packages and all of that jazz so it's not that big of a difference. Game of thrones was a cultural touchstone it also went down in history as the most pirated TV show. As to what they're going to make; well I imagine what would happen if the "get woke go broke" theory has any value
    A) the shows that did not have that messaging will be the paywall that the majority of people choose first.
    2) the creators of the web apps are going to be looking at what people are watching, how long people are watching, and all of the viewing metrics related to it
iii) if people are not watching the shows that are coming out with woke messaging then they're going to attempt to recreate the magic of the shows that people are watching

However, I stopped being a viewer because they did go woke.
The funny thing is that I can watch shows with POC and gay couples and all that. I've got zero issue with and have been enjoying shows like that for YEARS. I grew up watching the Fresh Prince of Bel Air and The Cosby Show and all sorts of shows with diverse casts. However, they were just about entertainment. They didn't lecture. They didn't make their white characters the default bad guys and didn't boil EVERYTHING down to race, gender, and sexuality. They instead were just inclusive without having to preach about that inclusivity.
The preaching is what drove me away. If I had to watch one more show with a storyline about a black person noticing how mistreated they are and how all white people are secretly racists...well...I just won't watch it. The CW isn't the only network guilty of this. I've cut ties with any show or movie that does this. I recently dropped Marvel (MCU) and Netflix for the same reasons. The final straw for me at Netflix, which I've had since 2010, was First Kill. It's a story about a lesbian couple that is very Buffy-esque and one of them is a POC. The entire thing was one big PSA. I ADORE Buffy and would love another Buffy like show. However, this shit on that memory. They took a show that would have potentially been targeted at me and made it super woke and not about entertainment.
Yes, the CW likely would have went down due to Netflix not optioning their programs. However, notice Superman and Lois is optioned by HBO Max, which is up-in-coming due to its recent merger with Discovery. Superman and Lois is also their most popular show on the CW. Why? It isn't woke. Yes, they have diverse characters, but it isn't a major plotpoint. If all their shows were like that...people would tune in. I would tune in. I know friends of mine would tune in. Yet, we've all stopped watching because we're not interested in watch a lecture. We want entertainment.
So, I think you are ultimately wrong. Yes, I get your premise. However, you have no idea what the viewership would be like on CW if they didn't woke it up and had decent shows again. In the early days it didn't need Netflix deals to stay afloat...when it was WB.

Was around when Fox started. Was there when Fox shown sitcoms like *Married With Children* & ensemble shows like *In Living Color.* Fox struggled until they got the NFC Conference broadcast rights of the NFL. Then CBS got the AFC rights from NBC. Then big wigs from Paramount studio & Warner Brothers studios wanted to be part of the bid wig network. They created UPN (Universal Paramount Network) & The WB (Warner Brothers). UPN & NBC went in to broadcast the first go round of XFL games. Best thing UPN ever did. While The WB was gaining viewers with Buffy & Angel. UPN was struggling. UPN even tried being all back (BET over the air free). With that. UPN merged with The WB.
Is it any surprise The WB is struggling?? No, it's not. Plenty of other TV networks over the air has come & gone. PAX (Family TV with a revival of Candid Camera - a very good show) among others. Plenty of sub networks (carried through digital over the air broadcasting stations) still running old b/w shows & variety programs.
Yes. People are cutting the cord on cable. But lot are going to the sub digital networks where TV shows from where America used to be are still on.
Besides. The studios are cutting their own throats. There's only so many hrs in a day. Only so many livestream services a person can purchase & watch in a day. CNN+ isn't the only streaming service that will fail

So basically you made long winded speech about them going woke and going broke 👍 while there were multiple factors that made them fall, running a show that no one watches for 4 seasons I assure you is a way you go broke. With the issues they had, the real issue would be not having a show that watchable or made money.
Part of people's wokeness is being lazy and expecting to make money off it which is basically what you're telling me. Even if you disagree with us, all of it plays a part in a company that coasted on cheaply produced crap and ran the company into the ground.
If they had actually put their resources into make a good show without immoral woke messaging, they would've probably survived. Lastly, you're also wrong about more shows turning to woke content, the Hollywood liberal narrative is still being implemented on all shows regardless if CW fails. The continuing bad trends of hiring woke degenerates straight out of moron college is proof enough of that.
And again, being against wokeness or woke people is not political, it's about morality, truth, and common sense. Although it is a political narrative to be against woke people, it's more than just that. It's about being against people who want to destroy art, creativity, or a culture that people made.
So disagree with me until the cows come home, but it was a case of get woke go broke simply because they failed to try and get more viewers by actually putting forth the effort to appeal to audiences. Anyone with half a brain could figure that out and the CW failed because they failed to appeal to audiences at the bare bottom line of it.

I'm old enough to remember watching a biography of Ben Franklin for two hours then switching over to History of the Gun and Modern Marvels. It’s not Shakespeare but if you wanna see good superhero tv, CW is where you went. CW was always for chicks. I don't think I watched anything from the CW. I mean maybe an episode here or there in passing... Maybe a Charmed or a Dark Angel , but The CW was mainly geared towards women. This is why you have more women that are Superman fans then Batman fans because Superman is more aesthetically appealing to women with Superman and Lois relationship. A Wonder Woman series would have Probably been better than Supergirl or Batgirl. Tried to attract a male audience by bringing in Arrow , I think the more promising series was Constantine. However , between your Gilmore Girls and Party Of 5 the Target audience was always female. By the time they tried to market to a more dependable male market ( yes , males are less hormonal than females) it was too late. Wrestling had a hell of a run with the dependable male audience until they took liberties. The NFL is a perfect example. Baseball is another great example. Things do not change much for males as they do for females. Little boys who follow the exploits of these super heroes tend to be more consistent where as females will jump on the latest trends. CW by bringing in Batwoman and adding woke elements lost site of the bigger picture. When you have woke messaging going on in politics , media , entertainment , sports and social media the market becomes saturated. I mean , I don't understand the argument that the Entertainment will become divisive. Most of these shows are carbon copies of each other for the most part. I find myself watching older programs anyway. This seems to be more triggering that many of your shows will be parted out to different networks. However , I am sure that a provider will eventually come up with Bundles soon. Once they see it is economically viable to do so.

But I feel like with it and a lot of other CW shows I like they don't improve or add on to the story they just repeat the same formula again and again. Like while most seasons of Supernatural had similar elements it got bad at season 14 because they basically just copied most of what happened in season 10

I agree that the CW didn't have the budget for high production, but a lot of CW writing was garbage. It's not expensive to have some decent scripts. The bad writing is also affecting many comic books. Huge budgets with great actors doesn't make up bad writing.

Agreed on both arguments for the show and comics in general. Personally I don't care that much about effects. My favorite CW show Supernatural never had great effects, but the fan base never cared because the characters and writing were so good, but once that started to decline people stopped watching. On the other hand "The Flash" and "Superman & Lois" have same budget for effects yet the Flash effects are the most criticized. Which just goes to show that simple effort is needed in all front to make a show work

I wasn't into UPN, but Veronica Mars started out on UPN and it was some of the finest television in the past 20 years or so.

    I love the CW!
Without them, the Critical Drinker wouldn't have as much hilarious material.

Jordan Peterson explains Common Law very well here and why CW suffered losses. ua-cam.com/video/o74rQmLRqtA/v-deo.html

The 100 had some annoying equity themes running through it but they more than balanced that out by actually distributing weakness and shortcomings to all the characters, not just the men. The women failed and were defeated with surprising regularity and all the main characters were essential to objectives being achieved over the course of each season(except the last). I think this is why it was such a hit. You couldn't be certain that the heroines were always going to come through and that's what adds credible suspense to a story.

I think you and Az from HeelVsBabyFace would have an interesting discussion about Batwoman. Namely he has videos discussing the terrible demos along with the shows terrible ratings.
