Saving Ducks at King's University College

- A mother duck gave birth to her babies in our courtyard. The only way out is to fly, so we decided to move her and the babies to an area where they could reach water and more food.
Apparently this has happened in years past as well!

Makes sense to pick them up considering the mother was so aggressively defensive. And leading her with the chicks is always quite effective. Although at the door maybe people were moving about too much, so she lost track.
The woman carrying the ducklings I nicknamed Doctor Crusher, because her shirt looks like a Star Trek uniform and her hair is somewhat similar to Beverly, too.
I just hope there was a good path to the next waterbody there, with enough cover against predators. - But at least we know she'd be giving any predator hell.
There is indeed water nearby to where we left them! A river is maybe 100 feet away, and she was walking towards it when she led the ducklings away.

Ok, I know this is a six year old video but that lady got bit at 0:36 and she didn't even flinch.
Do duck bites not hurt? Coz I've been bitten by a goose before and that shit is painful.
Probably did a bit, but maybe not as hard as a goose. Didn't get too much of her finger, and who knows what this lady deals with on a regular basis.

Saving? Once the people left they were fine
In fact, the ducks had to be removed multiple years in a row as there's no exit for them.. it's an enclosed courtyard that the mom lays her eggs in. Once the eggs hatch and she tries to leave, the babies can't fly and get left behind. So yes... saving.
@@LikelyMimics Now that makes more sense, the video doesn't make that clear. But still, she must choose that as a home for a reason, I suspect plenty of bugs and grass, and they would all fly away in a few weeks
@@johnmonk66 Ya the courtyard is pretty small but right behind the school is a river, so it must seem like a reasonable safe place with no predators... Until she can't feed them!
@@LikelyMimics Enjoyed this but there is no "closure." If true that babies have to get into the water within 24 hours (other video) and your river was "too fast", hence the grassy area chosen, we never learn/saw how she/they fared, nor if there is a better launch place. 2015-2021 results? BTW, she doesn't feed them, only teaches them. Regardless, thanks 4 sharing
