I love Magical mystery tour as well, but to me it is not a real album. It`s more a compilation album where you have the "Magical mystery tour" EP on one side, and the a and b sides of the singles the Beatles released in 1967 on side two. "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry fields" are in my view Pepper songs... They would have been perfect on "Sgt. Pepper"
43 years old, and I'm just now getting into the Beatles! Starting to collect vinyl as we speak, and the White Album was the one I HAD to get first...followed by Abby Road and Revolver. Quite a few to go yet! Love your reviews mate!
A very well explained ranking. Sometimes ranking albums isn’t so much what we cognitively perceive as the best album, but rather what album we tend to reach for most often. And that, in itself, changes with time. I find myself reaching for the White Album and Let It Be lately.
Australians: Hmm we have to change up the apple logo coloring Australians: Hmmmmmmm *Australians ignoring the fact that apples can be yellow* Australians: WHAT ABOUT ORANGE BC THATS NOT TOTALLY ANOTHER FRUIT
Let it Be higher than the White Album! Wow, I certainly wasn't expecting that :) Admire your sticking to your personal taste and not going with the crowd but I just feel they were a bit tired and jaded after the mammoth qualityfest they'd just conjured up in the months/weeks before.
Another enjoyable review, John. In response (horses for courses)....and not that you asked for one....I'm going to give you my rankings. To be honest, I've never thought about ranking them before now so this will be a first for me. I'm not going to include the "Yellow Submarine" album as I don't view it as a "legitimate" Beatles release (horses for courses again) So, here we go: 12. "Beatles For Sale".........they were tired and sounded it, although there are some terrific McCartney tracks on the record. 11. "Please, Please Me"......this one continues to grow on me. One hell of a debut album. 10. "With The Beatles"....of course, it was "Meet The Beatles" over here but this was the record that made me fall in love with the band. To my 14 year old eyes and ears, the sound was both extraordinary and revolutionary. 9. "Let It Be"......this was a disappointment for me when it came out. Some terrific tracks for sure but just not enough of them. 8. "A Hard Days Night"......a full album's worth of top notch pop/rock tracks. Terrific film, terrific album. 7. "Magical Mystery Tour"......this one continues to grow on me as well. The soundtrack version is a waste of time but the "all song" version is a showcase of the band's magnificent brilliance. 6. "Help".....for me, this is the album which first showed the ever increasing maturity of their songwriting skills. 5. "Rubber Soul".....my favorite George Harrison song of all...."If I Needed Someone"....is contained here which is one of a number reasons why this record makes it to my top 5. 4. "Sgt. Pepper".....it has all been said endless times before. Revolutionary brilliance in every musical sense. Timeless. 3. "The White Album (The Beatles)"......pick any musical genre you'd like and you'll find it here. In a word, amazing. 2. "Abbey Road"......what a way for the greatest band ever to say goodbye. I shed a tear each time the medley comes to an end with that famous last verse. Vinyl magnificence!!! 1. "Revolver"......not that it was needed, but this album proved they were greatest ever. From beginning to end, this is pop/rock as it had never been heard nor recorded before. My copy, purchased in London, hangs on my den wall as proof.
Thanks John for another great review. I generally go back and forth between Sgt Pepper & Abbey Road as my number one. I also enjoyed your close encounter with the rooftop story.
Abbey Road is the best album the Beatles released. I love it. I think Phil Spector botched "Let it be" Compare George Martin`s version of the "Let it be" song to Phil Spector`s or George Martin`s version of "Get back" to Phil Spector`s... George Martin wins.. I am a little bit biased on Phil Spector... The man is in jail for committing murder, and i don`t like the way he treated Darlene Love on "He`s a rebel" where he put it out on a false name, even though it was Darlene Love who was singing.
Get Back on the LP is the same version as the single. But I agree that he ruined Let It Be. He mixed out the backing vocals, which made the song any good in the first place! And he ruined Across The Universe my mixing out the other Beatles and adding his choirs.
Yellyman Gonzales You hit on something with Darlene Love. He absolutely mistreated Tina Turner during the recording of Valley Deep, Mountain High!

Get back was no different, but Phil's version of Let it Be was awesome, especially as it was the last time a Beatle played as a Beatle, George Harrison with the stinging lead guitar.
Loved the vid! I like and share your passion, even though my list would be totally different - probably because I've become a different kind of Beatles fan - with Please Please as my number 1. It's one of the most energetic and energizing albums ever made, imho, and as close as we'd get to actually hearing the Beatles play live. Wonderful recording too; the sparks flying from the music are almost tangible. George Martin originally toyed with the idea of a "live at the Cavern" album, apparently? Now that would've been absolute gold, if at all feasable, but they did try to give us the next best thing with that first lp. It's electrifying and I never tire of it. Btw, some of my other faves are Live at the Star Club, and the Live at the BBC's, for pretty much the same reasons. That sheer power and togetherness gradually disappeared and got replaced with (albeit brilliant) production artifice. No wonder they didn't feel like performing their stuff anymore. When they quit being an actual band in 1966, Brian Epstein, who was so bowled over when he first saw them play at that "cellarful of noise", was also one of the first to realise that the dream was over, I guess? They still made great studio lp's together because they had immense talent, vision and tenacity, but that mysterious magic they all used to share was lost. Didn't Lennon say: "our best stuff was never recorded"? We know he was prone to exaggeration and, erm...contrariness, if that is an actual English word, but listening to their albums, that quote resonates with me, and I always felt he might be right. So, for me, PPM is my absolute favourite Beatles album and surely one of the best pop lp's ever made. Anyway, do excuse my longwinded comment. I enjoy your channel and it's great to share the same Beatle passion!
Another interesting review John!My list would go 1)Revolver2)Abbey Road3)The White Album4)Rubber soul5)Hard Day s Night6)Sgt Pepper7)Help8)Let It Be 9)Magical Mystery Tour 10)Beatles For Sale11)With The Beatles12)Please Please 1st LP13)Yellow Submarine
I've got to admit quite an odd list, but that makes it unique. What makes it better is that on some of the weirder placements you explain well enough for most views (like me) to understand why you placed it there. Great video.
LET it be at 2? That's it, i'm never watching another one of your videos again. LOL Great list john but we're all different on what we think should be number one or number ten or whatever. Thats why i really enjoy watching who picks what on the beatle albums. I do like that you have the white album right up there. Revolver would be much higher for me. Nice john. Take care.
I have learnt to,love Let it be. The sound is so warm, it goes down like hot chocolate. Oh the Beatles were so good! Any of their albums could have been top of the list because each one has a gem which is absolutely « beyond compare ». Think of Eight days a week or the bridge of No reply. There is more musicality’in those than in the whole catalogue of any group you can think,of.
Amazing ranking. I really appreciate how you placed let it be as number 2. I hate when people knock that album. Abbey road will always be number one in my book, although white album and let it be often are tough competitors. Please keep making more videos. Would love to see more pink Floyd, Elton John, and led Zeppelin reviews. I couldn't help notice Houses of the Holy on the shelf in the background, that's my favorite Zep album.
a video about the beatles with led zeppelin's and pink floyd's albuns in the background? i dont even saw the entire video, but already subscribed, you have a good taste for music sir!
Agree with you on your ranking of Let It Be. Never understood how an album with three number one songs could be so criticized by the so called critics. As you stated John and Paul’s vocals on Two of Us and I’ve Got a Feeling are superb. Across the Universe has always been one of John’s best but for some reason an underrated song (IMO). And for all of the criticism that Phil Spector got from Paul on The Long and Winding Road-I prefer the string arrangements for this song over the Naked version. I Me Mine has always been one of my George compilations. The only complaint I have is that Don’t Let Me Down was not included on the original. And, yes, I understand Paul included it on the Naked version.
Hi John I like your ranking. I would have Mystery Tour higher personally, as I had it when I was very young and also it has so many good songs, also including "Baby your a rich man" which is underrated. I would also put Pepper at 3, but otherwise I think your choices are good! (put in a word for the "hey Jude" album also, a nice compilation.)
My ranking: 13)Yellow Submarine [1969] 12)Magical Mystery Tour [1967] 11)Please Please Me [1963] 10)Beatles For Sale [1964] 9)With The Beatles [1963] 8)Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band [1967] 7)Revolver [1966] 6)A Hard Day's Night [1964] 5)Help! [1965] 4)Abbey Road [1969] 3)The Beatles (The White Album) [1968] 2)Let It Be [1970] 1)Rubber Soul [1965]
Everyone will have their own different opinion so I would not criticise and I largely agree with you. Abbey Road is my favourite but surprised that Revolver is so low , surprised that Let it Be is No 2 , I cannot see that album is better than your numbers 3,4.5 and 6 . I would have For Sale lower as well as that was a bit of a knocked off album a few great Lennon and McCartney songs but much of it is their old Cavern live act with covers. Most people would have Revolver at 1 or 2 as its considered their peak creatively. Always enjoy these ranking discussions , thanks for posting
1: Abbey Road 2: White Album 3: Magical Mystery Tour 4: Let It Be 5: Sgt Peppers 6: Revolver 7: Rubber Soul 8: Please Please Me 9: Help 10: Yellow Submarine 11: A Hard Days Night 12: Beatles For Sale 13: With The Beatles
Hello John, I'm quite new to your channel but I find this video pretty good. For me, I would put The White Album at the top and Beatles For Sale at the bottom. As for Magical Mystery Tour, it would probably be around 7 or 8 for me.
Thanks John! I will use English only releases like you have although my American Yesterday and Today and Beatles VI would rank top 10 if I included. 1. Revolver 2. Abby 3. White Album 4. Rubber Soul 5. Hard Day's Night' 6. With the Beatles 7. Help 8. Beatles for Sale 9. Please Please Me 10. Sgt Pepper 11. MMT 12. Let it Be 13. Yellow Sub
Nice ranking, John. Mine changes frequently, also. All I can say is that A Hard Day's Night and the White Album will always make my top three. I never call the latter The Beatles, even though that is the actual title. The White Album is a better title.
The only album I still struggle to get into is With the Beatles. I love all the others. I include Yellow Submarine in that and George Martin's score. Great to see Beatles for sale not too close to the bottom. The originals on that album are superb. And unpopular opinion but I love Mr Moonlight. The best is so hard to say. Maybe cheating but I count the let it be naked version as I don't like the original. And that naked version makes it jump up my list. No fillers and Don't let me Down is added. Much better production. All the songs are very very good. I ain't saying my best but i do enjoy hearing people's views on this fascinating subject
Great channel. Love seeing fans rank Beatles' albums. However...I must comment on most review ranking channels...yours included, about the exclusion of Past Master 1 and 2. I know, I know, they are not 'official' album releases. However...consider...just exactly what would be considered Beatles albums? The UK releases? The US releases? I only own UK released albums. I feel US record companies butchered The Beatles albums for profit. So I only purchase UK products. With that said...back when The Beatles were starting off, in that time period, it was not unusual to release singles and not include them on albums. It wasn't until the later Beatles years record companies stopped that practice. I believe the stopping of that practice was directly related to The Beatles. So, let me poiny out, there were many singles tracks that never made it onto an album. 'Rain', for example. One of Ringo's greatest drum performances. 'Day Tripper'. Even "Strawberry Fields Forever', and 'Penny Lane', (which should have been on Sgt Pepper), were not included on an album. Yes...I know they are on Magical Mystery Tour. But really...is MMT a true album, or just a compilation album? Truth is...when ranking Beatles albums only...one has to leave out a remarkabke amout of fantastic tracks, that eventually wound up on Past Masters 1 and 2. How can one truly rank The Beatles catalogue if these tracks are left out? I mean...really...are we ranking the albums? Or are wr ranking their catologue. I get it. If one chooses to just rank their albums...that is fine. Everyone is allowed to do as he or she chooses. But how does one determine exactly what a Beatles album really is? What about the US released Yesteday and Today? Does one include it? Many would claim...it is a legitimate album release. Just trying to make the point...it does no justice to exclude Past Master 1 and 2 out of the lineup. They are in fact...Beatles tracks. Not disrespecting anyone...just making a point. Hopefully my point is seen and some can agree. If not, fair enough. I just feel those singles tracks no respect, when The Beatles catalogue is ranked. Just my humble opinion. Forgive me for being so long winded. Just tryjng to get these singles some recognition. Thanks for your channel and review. Two thums up.
A very interesting list. Mine is different in a lot of ways. I'm so pleased you have Let It Be ranked high. I had it in my top five. I think it is the most under-rated Beatles albums of them all.
Critics of the album usually point to the circumstances under which it was recorded or produced. Those people don't really speak to the songs, some of which are classics.
My list would go: 1) Sgt Pepper 2) Revolver 3) Help! 4) Rubber Soul 5) Abbey Road 6) The Beatles 7) A Hard Days Night 8) Magical Mystery Tour 9) Please Please Me 10) Let It Be 11) With The Beatles 12) Yellow Submarine 13) Beatles For Sale
Top video John. It is certainly a hard task rating these great albums! Agree 100% with Abbey Road being #1, for me Revolver would be higher and Let It Be lower. However it is all so subjective as you say, and when all is said and done all these albums are 5 star!
Abbey Road has always edged it for me as it was the first Beatles album that I really listened to. I was listening to the Stone Roses, Nirvana and Jesus Jones (who?) and the like at the time. My dad was a Beatles fanatic and taped Abbey Road so I could listen to it on my Walkman. I gave it a few plays just to shut him up as he'd been nagging me to listen to The Beatles for years. Needless to say, I was a Beatles fan a few days later.
Had to pause at aound 5min Mark... Where is your presumed friend that hasn't heard the Beatles from? outter space?🤣🤣. . Great choice mind to give a prosppective Beatles convertee.. If i have friends that dont or get the Beatles.. They're not really my friend 😉... Great vid so far, Revolver out of top 5 which means Let it be is??? .Don't agree buts its your opinion il try an respect it.. okay on with the vid...Pause again at 6.23.. Abbey rd no1.🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤👍👍👍.. unpaused....Vid finished... Absolutely great Video tip top.. Loved your Let it be collection superb, And so Glad to see my never changing favourite @no.1 The supreme Abbey Road ✌..Thanks for videos its helped to break the boredom during this isolation mess thank you an good health too you.✌+❤
Nice ranking John. Really can't disagree with anything here. We are talking about the best band ever. Lol :) only thing I would change really would be magical mystery tour. I do love that one. Lol. Would be in my top 5. Haha :) awesome video mate. Also wanted to say if you are interested that I have a contest going on. Awesome video again mate and take care mate :)
Thanks for helping me identify the version of let it be I have. 1970 UK is what I have with the greeny/ browny apple that looks badly printed. Nice album but I'm surprised is number 2 on your list because for me it's much lower. Although it has great songs on it, out just doesn't seem like an album to me, it seems cobbled together with not of an identity. Is scraping the barrel ( an extremely nice barrel with luxury exotic rare liquor in it, but scraping the barrel non the less.). But great video.
1) Sgt Pepper -- Too Innovative 2) Abbey Road - Too Good 3) Rubber Soul - Too Much Repeat-Listening Pleasure 4) Revolver - Very Good, But Not Enough Repeat-Listening Pleasure 5) Magical Mystery Tour - More Sgt. Pepper-Type Material, But The Great Song Count a Little Skimpy, Compared to the Others. 6) The White Album - A Fine "Dark Horse" Candidate, but Some of the Experiments Failed. Any questions?
Love your channel......My fav is the ''blue album''! Least fav ''The White Album''...way too disjointed, would have been better as a single LP w/ half of the tracks cut.
I have a soft spot for 'Rubber Soul' which was the first Beatles album that I ever bought. My other three favourites (in no particular order) are 'Abbey Road', 'Revolver' and 'Sgt Pepper's' .These four albums are also Sir George Martin's favourite Beatles albums.
They didn't have much input apart from the cameo at the end. The side 1 consisted of a Sgt Pepper reject (OANS), three other new songs by John Paul, and George recorded for contractual reasons, and two previously released singles. I don't think of it as a Beatles "album" as such, and neither was MMT which essentially was a double EP in the UK. Both were "soundtrack" releases. However I like the MMT EP as it is (apart from "Walrus" you don't get these tracks elsewhere), and I like listening to side 1 of YS, (these extra four tracks you don't get anywhere else either)……… and it is The Beatles :-)
Hi John. I've finally started seriously approaching my own Beatles albums rankings video. So far I have Please Please Me on 56% and With the Beatles on 63%. It's intriguing that you have them them other way round.
1. Sgt Peppers 2. The Beatles (White Album) 3. Rubber Soul 4. Abbey Road 5. A Hard Day's Night 6. Magical Mystery Tour 7. Revolver 8. Help! 9, Please Please Me 10. Beatles for Sale (Yellow Submarine) 11. With The Beatles 12. Let it Be Haying written that, 9-11 are hard to order among themselves. I never owned 'With The Beatles' so the nostalgia isn't there, and I only purchased 'Beatles for Sale' after my Beatlemania phase began to die down. I could never afford to buy them all so I prioritised and only bought their earlier albums when I could.
Late to the party but as a lifelong Beatles fan with a somewhat different take than John, my top five in reverse order would be (today, anyway): 5) White Album, 4) Rubber Soul, 3) Sgt. Pepper 2) Mystery Tour, 1) Revolver
I Understand Why Let it is on no.2, its because of the maturity of the music. Myself I really enjoy that Album. its on my top 3, when I listen that album for the 1st time I notice that its a McCartney Album. thats Why Some beatle Fans Says its thier least fav. record. And im little jealous of your Let it be Albums.LOLZ
Great Savile Row story John. - And I like the high rating of "Let It Be".. My very own very subjective ranking would be: 1). "Sgt Pepper" 2). "Please Please Me" 3)."The White Album". 4)."Magical Mystery Tour". 5)."Hard Days Night". 6). "Let It Be". 7)."Abbey Road" 8). "Revolver" 9)."Help" 10)."Rubber Soul" 11)."Beatles For Sale". 12)."With The Beatles" .. this changes constantly, but "Pepper" will always be my favorite.. - Nice video..
13. Yellow Submarine 12. With The Beatles 11. Let It Be 10. Please Please Me 9. A Hard Day’s Night 8. Beatles For Sale 7. Help 6. Magical Mystery Tour 5. Rubber Soul 4. The White Album 3. Sgt Peppers 2. Abbey Road 1. Revolver
Middle Beatles albums are their best albums. Although I love all their stuff the earlier albums are a little deriviative and simplistic and their later albums are a little too slick.
1. Revolver 2. Please Please Me 3. MMT 4. A Hard Day’s Night 5. White Album 6. Sgt. Pepper’s 7.Abbey Road 8. Rubber Soul 9. Help! 10. With The Beatles 11. Beatles For Sale 12. Let it Be 13. Yellow Submarine Honestly, I love all these albums. I listen to at least one song (off of each album) once a day. Some I’ll play over and over again and some I’ll skip. 🤷🏾♀️
My List: 1)Rubber Soul 2)Abbey Road 3)A Hard Days Night 4)Magical Mystery Tour 5)Help! 6)Revolver 7)Let It Be 8)Beatles For Sale 9)White Album 10)Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band 11)Please, Please Me 12)With The Beatles 13)Yellow Submarine
Good to see some love for "Beatles For Sale". All the originals are superb - & a move forward from the previous LPs originals. Even though AHDN is all original - a couple of Lennon songs on side 2 are poor IMO. And 2 of the side 1 songs irritate me a bit as well. I find a couple of the originals on "With The Beatles" are also second rate.
I would have placed Let It Be near Magical Mystery Tour on your list and for many of the same reasons. Get Back and Let It Be were released as singles with the George Martin mix months before the album came out (and the album version of Get Back was the studio single edited and "faked" as the rooftop performance). Across the Universe had also been released on a charity album months earlier The other tracks would have made a great EP (and we can just trash Dig It and Maggie May). Don't Let Me Down wasn't included and there was plenty of running time available to include it (even though that already was released as the 'B' side of Get Back months earlier).
Let it be at number 2 is shocking. But that’s ok. Not a favorite of mine but I do like it. Particularly for I’ve got a feeling and the long winding road. Question for you; do you prefer Spector’s version or the naked version?
1. Sgt Pepper This Album exploded onto the scene it was soooooooo original, you could even stare at the album cover for hours. 2. Abbey Road 3 Magical Mystery Tour 4 Meet THe Beatles(us version) I want to Hold your Hand, Standing There, All My loving 5. Revolver 6. Rubber Soul 7. Help 8 Hard Days Night 9 Let It Be--it was their last release I think it makes people sad but its still great, especially all of Paul’s stuff. 10 White Album. I love Obla Di, Birthday, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Long Long Long, Blackbird, don’t like a lot of JOhns stuff on this. 11..Beatles for Sale 12 Please Please Me 13 Yellow Submarine
I have always favored Abbey Road as my Number 1. Happy to see it ranked so highly here. Just saw Here Comes the Sun Remix 2019 video. I showed it to my mother, who at 91, said:"It makes me want to cry."
1) A Hard Day's Night 2) Revolver 3)Abbey Road 4) Magical Mystery Tour 5) Help 6) Sgt Pepper's 7) Let It Be 8) White Album 9) Beatles For Sale 10) Rubber Soul 11) With The Beatles 12) Please Please Me. Although they'll probably have jumbled up completely within a month. Good choice of Abbey Road as number one, side two of that album is as perfect as music can get.
You have a preference for 67-70 Blue era over the 62-66 Red era. I like both, but I prefer the originals from the earlier era more. Really, they are like two different bands from two different eras of music. The Beatles themselves caused much of that. The early Beatles members solo efforts are like a third era.
Abbey Road is also my fav, if i must choose one, but of course it depends on your state of mind, wich one suits and sounds best att the very moment. Btw. you should show Abbey Roads back cover too.
Maybe one piece of evidence the Beatles stopped at the right time is that, during the year of their last album (1970), the album of another group-Simon & Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water-wildly outsold theirs.
Abbey Road always number 1 for me John but you are spot about Rubber Soul being the perfect album for beginners, gets you hooked from the start. A Hard Days Night a superb pop album featuring You Can't Do That which is not in the film.
Abbey Road is my fave Beatles album also. I was a fan from the beginning. Was 11 years old when they first came to the U.S. That period was an amazing time. British Invasion! Yeah, yeah, yeah!
Dear john do you have all the US versions of the beatles UK albums and if you have what do you think about them many americans grew up listening to a totally different version of the beatles and have never heard the UK versions and if they have they say they still prefer the american releases
Pretty legit. I don't listen to the Beatles as much as I used to but there are three albums that I still listen to regularly so I guess they're my three favourites: Abbey Road, the White Album and Sgt Pepper.
I love magical mystery tour :(
hugo chaves Me too - shocked and stunned at MMT's position!!
hugo chaves so do i... They are all masterpieces
+John Heaton Beatles is art!
Pepper"
I still enjoy it all as a listening experience more than sgt. pepper personally
I started laughing when you pulled out Let It Be after Let It Be 😂. That was good.
Didn't need the music playing at the same time, made it hard work to hear what was being said..
43 years old, and I'm just now getting into the Beatles! Starting to collect vinyl as we speak, and the White Album was the one I HAD to get first...followed by Abby Road and Revolver. Quite a few to go yet! Love your reviews mate!
On the “A Hard Days’ Night album - John wrote either all or most of the 10 songs out of the 13. It’s pretty incredible.
A very well explained ranking. Sometimes ranking albums isn’t so much what we cognitively perceive as the best album, but rather what album we tend to reach for most often. And that, in itself, changes with time.
I find myself reaching for the White Album and Let It Be lately.
Let it Be is the album I keep coming back to as well, so nice to see someone else giving it some love.
Its amazing
Espetacular os 13 Álbuns de The Beatles; tenho todos e gosto de todos por igual! Parabéns Amigo pelo belo trabalho que você realizou e realiza.
Australians: Hmm we have to change up the apple logo coloring
Australians: Hmmmmmmm
*Australians ignoring the fact that apples can be yellow*
Australians: WHAT ABOUT ORANGE BC THATS NOT TOTALLY ANOTHER FRUIT
Abbey Road is my favourite too was worried it wasn’t going to be in your top 5.
Ha!
I'm from Brazil!! Your channel is really good!
hugo chaves thanks!
Let it Be higher than the White Album! Wow, I certainly wasn't expecting that :) Admire your sticking to your personal taste and not going with the crowd but I just feel they were a bit tired and jaded after the mammoth qualityfest they'd just conjured up in the months/weeks before.
LIB pales in comparison to the white album.
Across the universe, Long and winding road Let it be are better than any track on the white album.
Another enjoyable review, John. In response (horses for courses)....and not that you asked for one....I'm going to give you my rankings. To be honest, I've never thought about ranking them before now so this will be a first for me. I'm not going to include the "Yellow Submarine" album as I don't view it as a "legitimate" Beatles release (horses for courses again) So, here we go:
12. "Beatles For Sale".........they were tired and sounded it, although there are some terrific McCartney tracks on the record.
11. "Please, Please Me"......this one continues to grow on me. One hell of a debut album.
10. "With The Beatles"....of course, it was "Meet The Beatles" over here but this was the record that made me fall in love with the
band.
The soundtrack version is a waste of time but the "all
song" version is a showcase of the band's magnificent brilliance.
6. "Help".....for me, this is the album which first showed the ever increasing maturity of their songwriting skills.
5. "Rubber Soul".....my favorite George Harrison song of all...."If I Needed Someone"....is contained here which is one of a
number reasons why this record makes it to my top 5.
I shed a tear each time the medley comes to an
end with that famous last verse. Vinyl magnificence!!!
1. "Revolver"......not that it was needed, but this album proved they were greatest ever. From beginning to end, this is pop/rock
as it had never been heard nor recorded before. My copy, purchased in London, hangs on my den wall as proof.
David Gena thanks david...good to see your list!
easy:
1. U.K. Revolver
2. everything else (haha)
I've been watching your videos for a while now and I really enjoy them, I think the beatles were always very consistent.
TomBurtFilms thanks!
Thanks John for another great review. I generally go back and forth between Sgt Pepper & Abbey Road as my number one. I also enjoyed your close encounter with the rooftop story.
Zlort Nikto thanks my list would change daily probably!
Is ´t it fantastic that we can have any Beatle record as number 1?who else can say this?
@@franklamagna3889 he banned ike from the studio so he couldnt smack her between takes.
Phil didnt murder her. She kissed the gun.
Absolutely agree with you about Let it Be. The album is unfairly maligned. It's a real gem.
Magical Mystery Tour is my #1 but I can’t argue with Abbey Road being at the top. I’d just switch A Hard’s Day Night with Help.
I'm starting to detect a Doctor Who/Beatles duel obsession going on....
James Griffiths well spotted!
@@johnheaton5667 Me too. I am BOTH as well. RTD was the best era along with Troughton, Pertwee and Tom Baker! Forget the rest except maybe the first!
Vlad Drakul Yes Hartnell also great...first four the best!
@@johnheaton5667 David Tennant was great too:(
Another interesting review John!My list would go 1)Revolver2)Abbey Road3)The White Album4)Rubber soul5)Hard Day s Night6)Sgt Pepper7)Help8)Let It Be 9)Magical Mystery Tour 10)Beatles For Sale11)With The Beatles12)Please Please 1st LP13)Yellow Submarine
Frédéric Cioni thanks Frédéric
It's very nice that your love of the Beatles is shared with your sons.
Yes thanks, it is...not sure what I would do if it wasn't to be honest :- )
I've got to admit quite an odd list, but that makes it unique. What makes it better is that on some of the weirder placements you explain well enough for most views (like me) to understand why you placed it there. Great video.
Since I heard the Let it Be (naked) version, it has gone way higher in my list too. 😍
The correct choice AR is a complete masterpiece, I do cry at some points
LET it be at 2? That's it, i'm never watching another one of your videos again. LOL Great list john but we're all different on what we think should be number one or number ten or whatever. Thats why i really enjoy watching who picks what on the beatle albums. I do like that you have the white album right up there. Revolver would be much higher for me. Nice john. Take care.
Ha Ha Kregg. I may have provocatively plaved Let It Be so high as it is the ugly duckling of the canon according to many...not me!
:)
Alex Diachok i probably play let it be snd abbey road more than any others alrhough depends what mood you're on...thanks
Nice collectible figurine collection you have there, John.
Noun boy thanks yes probably the biggest in Hungary :- )
a video about the beatles with led zeppelin's and pink floyd's albuns in the background? i dont even saw the entire video, but already subscribed, you have a good taste for music sir!
Elias Melo thanks!
I think magical mystery tour is super underrated strawberry Fields the fool on the hill penny lane i am the warlus
One of the Beatles best albums
magical mystery tour is actually my favorite. i do not dislike any of the songs on it
It’s kind of hard to say any Beatles album is underrated. All of their albums have a fan base.
My only issue with MMT is that the chorus for Blue Jay Way isn't the strongest imo, but otherwise it's a fairly spotless album in my eyes
Glen Smith thanks Glenn
Revolver is my favorite
Great stuff John love your choices, I think you just about got it right although I think the mystery tour album should be top 5.
My ranking:
13)Yellow Submarine [1969]
12)Magical Mystery Tour [1967]
11)Please Please Me [1963]
10)Beatles For Sale [1964]
9)With The Beatles [1963]
8)Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band [1967]
7)Revolver [1966]
6)A Hard Day's Night [1964]
5)Help! [1965]
4)Abbey Road [1969]
3)The Beatles (The White Album) [1968]
2)Let It Be [1970]
1)Rubber Soul [1965]
Love that room! And you have such a nice voice :)
1: Abbey Road
2: White Album
3: Magical Mystery Tour
4: Let It Be
5: Sgt Peppers
6: Revolver
7: Rubber Soul
8: Please Please Me
9: Help
10: Yellow Submarine
11: A Hard Days Night
12: Beatles For Sale
13: With The Beatles
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks Please Please Me is the best of their discogs' former half!
Hello John, I'm quite new to your channel but I find this video pretty good. For me, I would put The White Album at the top and Beatles For Sale at the bottom. As for Magical Mystery Tour, it would probably be around 7 or 8 for me.
Thanks Ben, always good to hear others' opinions. Cheers.
Thanks John! I will use English only releases like you have although my American Yesterday and Today and Beatles VI would rank top 10 if I included.
1. Revolver
2. Abby
3. White Album
4. Rubber Soul
5. Hard Day's Night'
6. With the Beatles
7. Help
8. Beatles for Sale
9. Please Please Me
10. Sgt Pepper
11. MMT
12. Let it Be
13. Yellow Sub
G,ad to see respect towards “Let it Be”, truly an underrated album.
Nice ranking, John. Mine changes frequently, also. All I can say is that A Hard Day's Night and the White Album will always make my top three. I never call the latter The Beatles, even though that is the actual title. The White Album is a better title.
Thanks Martin. I agree. And on many days AHDN would also be in my top 3!
FitToBe TieDyed thanks! Agree about let it be.... Hugely underrated by some
Critics of the album usually point to the circumstances under which it was recorded or produced.
Fair enough...any order is good to be honest!
The only reason I have Yellow Submarine above Beatles For Sale is because Yellow Sub has It's All Too Much which is my favourite Beatles song. :)
Luke Shirlaw No Reply is an excellent song
Top video John. It is certainly a hard task rating these great albums! Agree 100% with Abbey Road being #1, for me Revolver would be higher and Let It Be lower. However it is all so subjective as you say, and when all is said and done all these albums are 5 star!
Tim Shearn thanks tim and thanks for your list!
Good to see the classic Who figures and hear the Beatles playing, great taste
Top 4
1. Revolver
2. Rubber Soul
3. Sgt. Peppers
4. Abbey road
Ben S same, but 4 would either be abbey road or the beatles
Same list for me,,,,exactly. Great albums!!!! 😉😛😉
Man I want somebody to have early Beatles #1 it gets boring when everyone has all the right answers
My favorite Beatles albums are, Magical Mystery Tour & Abbey Road, love those albums, classics
Awesome video again mate and take care mate :)
rockboy680 thanks mate
I bet you are like me john , your faves change from time to time, that's what happens when you are a Beatles fan.
Really good channel I subbed :)
1) Sgt Pepper -- Too Innovative
2) Abbey Road - Too Good
3) Rubber Soul - Too Much Repeat-Listening Pleasure
4) Revolver - Very Good, But Not Enough Repeat-Listening Pleasure
5) Magical Mystery Tour - More Sgt. Pepper-Type Material, But The Great Song Count a Little Skimpy, Compared to the Others.
6) The White Album - A Fine "Dark Horse" Candidate, but Some of the Experiments Failed.
Any questions?
DigitalShark99 thanks for your opinion! Always interesting to see others'....cheers
Yes,,,,what would you rank the rest of the albums? Good list...,I Don't listen to Yellow Submarine. Revolver always my # 1. 😊😊😊
Well on the magical 13 , you put my fav album at #3. How dare you.
Love your channel......My fav is the ''blue album''! Least fav ''The White Album''...way too disjointed, would have been better as a single LP w/ half of the tracks cut.
A hard days night is the only Beatles album that I don’t dislike one song on
Same here
I have a soft spot for 'Rubber Soul' which was the first Beatles album that I ever bought. My other three favourites (in no particular order) are 'Abbey Road', 'Revolver' and 'Sgt Pepper's' .These four albums are also Sir George Martin's favourite Beatles albums.
I agree with the worst album being Yellow Submarine. Not a serious effort on their part.
Frank Lamagna thanks frank...kind of glad they didn’t go the EP route though
But it's still a great album you got to say
I love the yellow submarine album
Hi John. I've finally started seriously approaching my own Beatles albums rankings video. So far I have Please Please Me on 56% and With the Beatles on 63%. It's intriguing that you have them them other way round.
James Griffiths they’re pretty close!
"With" is a way stronger album than "Please", "Please" was just a pop album but "With" has rough and strong sound and punky attitude.
let it be ahead of sgt, white, & revolver? well im glad you are able to enjoy that album more than i can
1. Sgt Peppers
2. The Beatles (White Album)
3. Rubber Soul
4. Abbey Road
5. A Hard Day's Night
6. Magical Mystery Tour
7. Revolver
8. Help!
9, Please Please Me
10. Beatles for Sale
(Yellow Submarine)
11. With The Beatles
12. Let it Be
Haying written that, 9-11 are hard to order among themselves.
Myself I really enjoy that Album. its on my top 3, when I listen that album for the 1st time I notice that its a McCartney Album. thats Why Some beatle Fans Says its thier least fav. record. And im little jealous of your Let it be Albums.LOLZ
takeru miyamoto yes and let it be is also associated with the split which probably didn’t help!
Thomas Calden thanks thomas and for your list..an impossible task as it depends on one's mood as much as anything

8. Beatles For Sale
7. Help
6. Magical Mystery Tour
5. Rubber Soul
4. The White Album
3. Sgt Peppers
2. Abbey Road
1. Revolver
Nice list,,
Middle Beatles albums are their best albums. Although I love all their stuff the earlier albums are a little deriviative and simplistic and their later albums are a little too slick.
Glad to see some Let It Be love
1. Revolver
2. Please Please Me
3. MMT
4. A Hard Day’s Night

6. Sgt. Pepper’s
7.Abbey Road
8. Rubber Soul
9. Help!
10. With The Beatles
11. Beatles For Sale
12. Let it Be
13. Yellow Submarine
Honestly, I love all these albums. I listen to at least one song (off of each album) once a day. Some I’ll play over and over again and some I’ll skip. 🤷🏾♀️
Nice video but you said a hard days night was all Lennon/McCartney.
George Harrison also sang a song on that album “I’m Happy just to dance with you”

Good to see some love for "Beatles For Sale". All the originals are superb - & a move forward from the previous LPs originals. Even though AHDN is all original - a couple of Lennon songs on side 2 are poor IMO. And 2 of the side 1 songs irritate me a bit as well. I find a couple of the originals on "With The Beatles" are also second rate.
ive caught myself listening to let it be a lot as well, awesome album and its pretty underrated compared to the other beatles albums in my opinion
I agree...I think the bad feeling at the time made the four of them kind of dismiss this one...a pity.
2. Abbey Road
3 Magical Mystery Tour
4 Meet THe Beatles(us version) I want to Hold your Hand, Standing There, All My loving
5. Revolver
6. Rubber Soul
7. Help
8 Hard Days Night
9 Let It Be--it was their last release I think it makes people sad but its still great, especially all of Paul’s stuff.
10 White Album. I love Obla Di, Birthday, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Long Long Long, Blackbird, don’t like a lot of JOhns stuff on this.
11..Beatles for Sale
12 Please Please Me
13 Yellow Submarine
Abbey Road is also my favourite, most of these videos put it at number 3 or 4 so I’m glad I saw this one!
Y’all calm down, it’s just his opinion. My favorite Beatles albums change from time to time. Right now it’s Rubber Soul.
Thanks Will, always good to others' opinions!
I'm with you on the high ranking of Let it Be...have always loved that album. For me, Revolver top though.
James Griffiths thanks james
You have a preference for 67-70 Blue era over the 62-66 Red era. I like both, but I prefer the originals from the earlier era more. Really, they are like two different bands from two different eras of music. The Beatles themselves caused much of that. The early Beatles members solo efforts are like a third era.
Abbey Road is also my fav, if i must choose one, but of course it depends on your state of mind, wich one suits and sounds best att the very moment. Btw. you should show Abbey Roads back cover too.
nice room from the looks of it. cool videos watched a cpl dozen
DDub 64 thanks!
Glad to see you rank let it be so high I love that album it gets such a bad rap
BlunderCity thanks for commenting
Interested in what you think of Naked. You might have done a review of this elsewhere
A hards Days Night is Better than Help.
Niels Bie nah yesterday and hide your love away are some of the best Beatles songs
