This speech should be tought and listened to in schools instead of the dumb downed dreck we have today. All of us,
one nation, different beliefs, but inseparable.

    Young Welles...
As legendary an orator as Webster was reputed to be, I cannot imagine that his own oration of this speech was any more magnificent than this.
Listen to the content, about midway through, and marvel at the relevance of it, in light of current events, especially domestically:
The Union cannot coexist with the Politics of Division.
(Make no mistake: Webster was a great American; Welles was a great American.)

I couldn't help but hear Edward Arnold as Webster in 'The Devil and Daniel Webster' when hearing Welles here.

Mr Webster is my ancestor. I keep seeing things about him pop up. I now understand why I've been so political. It must be in my blood

You are very blessed to have such a great man in your ancestry. Have you ever seen that 1940s classic."The Devil and Daniel Webster?" That great actor Edward Arnold played Webster, and his closing oration to the "jury of the damned." defending Jabez Stone, is magnificent!

Eerily prophetic of tbe Civil War which practically destroyed the Union just thirty years later.

The union was preserved, and by a disciple of Webster no less.

I'd like to see Patrick Stewart take a shot at this. (I assume his delivery was influenced in part by Welles.

Our Education has gone to hell. No one speaks like this no more. I would have like to have seen real Senators. Not the jokes the Democratic Party has become. The Republicans are not much better. Republic and Citizen first not Me and Money or Political Gain or what is it for me.

Your’e kidding, right? People are more educated now than they ever have been at any point in human history. What with all the schools, educational books, films, and websites, it’s never been easier to become smarter.
At this time, your average American couldn’t read or write, let alone speak in this eloquent manner.
